Description
Tabitha Diaz fits in, wherever she winds up. Even when that wherever is another world entirely. "Wear the mask long enough and you become the mask," isn't scary for the mask... *** NOTE: If you are not an Adult or not interested in reading about people dealing maturely (sometimes not so maturely) with Adult issues, please go readBlankorIron Angel. The former is YA, the latter might as well be. ALSO: While I didn't have a particular goal (other than writing daily) when I started the Diary, my initial thought was Isekai Action Adventure. Unfortunately, I am incapable of writing to spec, and as Shipgirl said, "congratulations, dear, you've written a Romance". So expect a lot of talking about feelings and relationships. *** What To Expect:OP MC who is far too much of an utter dumbass to realize how OP she is.Slice of Life. Many Slice. Much Life. Very of. Wow.Humor so stupid it makes the MC look smart, if that's even possible.WLWLW Romance between two Bi Women and their Tiger-Woman Maid, with far more content about post-connection living and loving than 'will they / won't they' faffing about.POLY Romance in a non-heteronormative society. In case WLWLW with three Ws instead of two wasn't clear.Slow Burneverything, because each IRL day covers one day in the MC's life. More or less.Weak to Slightly Less Weak Moral Compass ProgressionOccasional over the top threats when MCs family is threatened.Occasional bouts of even-further-over-the-top violence when MCs family member(s) are harmed.Frequent Food Porn, because Young Adult Olympic Tier Athletes Eat Much Food.Unusual yet Not Entirely Off-Brand Versions of Semi-Familiar European Deities.Limited LitRPG elements, because this is my first LitRPG fiction and I didn't want to lean on those and screw it up. Whatever the fuck else Tabitha decides to get up to when she gets a wild hair up her ass.Oh. Profanity. Shit tons of profanity. Sometimes creative. Often grammatically incorrect and teleologically improbable. You have been warned."Sir! Tabitha's thirsty again!""Bring out the horny bat.""We tried that, Sir! Her thirst is too powerful! The bat broke!""My god, man, throw some Maenads at her or something!""Oh, no! They're all Reveling, and she's Just Gotten Thirstier!" - Jeremy001Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The alternate magical history worldbuilding is super cool! And done in a way that I have not seen before! Kenny here was not afraid to really change up major aspects of Earth, its history and cultures that other urban fantasy doesn't seem to want to do, in favor of making a "real life but also magic is real" setting instead of the "magic and gods are real and that had tons of exhaustive consequences for how civilization developed" way done here.
Main Character, Tabitha, well, *taps head* this baby can fit so much trauma lmao
Low key badass, and keeps it real. Feels like an actual person with emotions and real thought, but also cool enough to be a looked up to fantasy hero. - Airborn1024Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has been a high point of my day since I started reading it.
The story is full of engaging characters who are deep enough to provide meaning without being built of so much minutiae that they drown the story.
The MC is OP in the best way possible with great power offset by an endearing dorkiness.

- AxriusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In terms of raw prose quality, I've read plenty of things professionally published that pale in comparison.
The style of story telling, the day-by-day take does some fun things for pacing, and complicates things in other ways, and I can't say it's my favorite, but considering how well-written, genuine, and at times absolutely raucously hilarious the antics are, I'm more than happy to look past any of the pacing hiccups.
Do be aware that there are a lot of mature topics, and while not all of the characters are mature the author handles them with degree of honesty and seriousness that is really rare for stories on sites like these featuring that kind of thing. That said, if certain steamier topics make you uncomfortable or you don't like mixed in with your day-to-day, I would probably steer clear. To me it's tastefully blended in in the way real people live side-by-side with those topics, but depending on your upbringing/culture/etc. it may or may not be the same for you.
It's one of those rare pieces of work that can bring you to genuine tears of agony, laughter, and joy within the space of a chapter or two because the subject matter, while portrayed in a fantastical setting, are very much real and relatable. - DamagedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The flow and style is a little difficult to get used to initially, but the more you read the more of the author's voice shines through and the characters come to life.
The story itself moves along well, though due to the nature of daily (mostly) epistolary it has some days where little happens; those days are mercifully short chapters.
Punctuation is reasonably on-point, though author uses a slightly non-standard style guide—but is at the very least consistent with its application.
Non-American readers are going to feel a little lost in the very regional dialect and mindset of the protagonist, but allowances can be made (and the author is great at answering any questions about such). - DistinctRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The diary format is not one that I usually like.
In this case , the author ,manages to maintain a strong narrative drive while giving the MC a distinctive voice.
It works. It works well.
I Like the MC. Like the world building. Pacing is okay.
The story is intriguing and makes me want to know more. Hope the standard can be maintained.
Give it a try - DouglasReayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The writing is a delight to read - Kenny Celican has a wonderful turn of phrase, the protagonist is well developed and the situations are fun. If that is all there was, a humorous slice-of-life Isekai'd teenager-with-an-attitude-and-a-cheat-ability takes on a magic version of a military academy, this would still rate very highly.
But there's so much more hidden beneath the surface.
Celican worked for years teaching in deprived inner-city schools, and he uses a re-examination of injustice in Norse and Greek mythology to work through the issues, hopes and heartbreaking dilemmas faced by pupils struggling against poverty, prejudice and powerlessness.
Read this one! - ArkSkwyreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: I’m going with a 4.5 on style, if only because the Diary format is not something that’s going to be for everyone. I didn’t expect it to be for me, honestly, and was pleasantly surprised with how much I’ve enjoyed it. I’m also a huge fan of the way the daily updates are set up as daily diary entries of our sexcapade having main character. It’s like when you hang out with your buddy and ask how their day was, and they tell you about it as best as they remember.
Story: A solid 5/5 on the story, I absolutely adore it. What began as a humorous slice of life Isekai LitTPG with a horndog protagonist has evolved over time into a beautiful fantasy romcom with serious action sequences, intense introspection and musings on life that even my autistic ADHD ass can follow, understand, and feel represented. Even better, the questions Tabitha poses to herself and the conclusions she comes to are things that resonate with me, personally. I’d buy a copy of her Doctrine with the Commentary to keep on my desk and look at when I’m feeling some kind of way.
Character: Every character in the story is so unique and interesting, I’ve given it a 5/5 because the story has drawn me in and made me invested in the characters and their growth, most especially the writer of the Diary herself. Seeing her go from “slightly jaded, powerless person” to “person with the power, will, and desire to make things Better for everyone” has been a fantastic time, and leaves me with the hope that I can become a better person myself.
Grammar: I had to remove some points for this one, because there are some points where words are missing, or a few misspellings here and there, but still leaving it at a 4/5 because if I was writing this much every day while still updating a dozen other stories at the same time, it would be many times worse. Honestly the only things that truly bother me are when The Menace’s name gets misspelled, but if the Author had an editor to go over the Diary and fix the small mistakes, - EleeyahRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0DOATM deserves a better rating than it has.
That said, there are some problems and I'll touch on them as we go.
Characters
Every character in DOATM feels extremely alive. Not only are they coherently written, but they've got their own voices, are always consistent with themselves and certainly recognizable. Their background stories make sense, and how those shape each character makes sense too. Their psychology is believable and realistic.
The portrayal of Tabitha, the MC, is negatively impacted by some stylistic choices that I'll go into below, but her character and psychology itself is impeccable.
Grammar
Got nothing to complain about. Grammar's good, very readable, often clever.
Story
DOATM is a slowburn and usually calm. It has several interesting story-beats that elevate it above "just fine" into actually unique territory. There's temporary pacing issues in a few places where things drag a little, but not very many, and they do tend to end with a bang. Those bangs deserve a mention - they're probably why I found DOATM, despite being a slowburn, to be binge-worthy. Each bang resonates with consequences and meaning. They're not cheap or lazy drama, they are in fact carried by the world(building), and they always herald interesting changes.
Style
This is where I have a problem with DOATM. Three, actually. The first one's easy and just a question of Kenny gaining more skill as an author:
1. A major element of the storytelling style is a certain sense of vagueness or mystique. Wordplay designed to tickle the brain, to engage, to immerse yourself. You know the type - it's often a sign of a very talented writer who has mastered their art. Terry Pratchett is one of the most famous examples to come to mind. And here, too, it often works - but not always. Sometimes Kenny misses the mark, and instead of being playfully and enjoyably clever, it's just confusing and too vague. XD
2. There aren't enough chapters at the start, for the prologue, before Tabitha gets isekai'd. T - JeslikRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just a brief review; this novel is really impressive. And, as stated in the subject, with every chapter I become more and more impressed with the quality of the storytelling and the world-building. It is complex and coherent and consistent with the basic premise that during a terrorist event at the Aquarium one of the victims could be isakai'd to another world by an unusual octopus from one of the Aquarium tanks as a new Chuthu god ( aka Mimic) posing as her adorkable self in a weirdly developed steampunk world with magic and heros and all the Gods and gods and just feel so ... right.
