From the moment you read the opening line—The world needs changing—this book pulls you into an exhilarating, thought-provoking journey. Simon is not your typical hero. He’s not chosen for his virtue or nobility; he takes matters into his own hands, deceiving a god and seizing the opportunity to reshape a dying world in his own image. His transformation from a powerless man on Earth to a potential savior—or ruler—of Valtia is nothing short of fascinating. What sets this story apart is its brilliant execution. The world-building is immersive, painting a vivid picture of a realm on the brink of collapse, desperate for salvation. The pacing is relentless, keeping you hooked with unexpected twists and strategic maneuvers. Simon’s character is both compelling and unpredictable, making it impossible to guess whether he will truly become the hero Valtia needs—or something far more dangerous. This book is perfect for fans of morally complex protagonists, high-stakes fantasy, and stories where intelligence and ambition drive the narrative. If you love a tale where power is seized, not granted, and where the line between hero and villain blurs, this is an absolute must-read. Bold, gripping, and unforgettable!! Love it!

I enjoy how the protagonist is growing to fit the role he finds himself taking on.
If a fast-paced story with an immediately overpowered main character is what you are looking for, this will not satisfy that expectation. Instead, the story offers a flawed character whose growth unfolds slowly, punctuated by important moments that shape his personality and his approach to the challenges he faces. The careful pacing allows readers to invest in both his development and the relationships that inform it.
This is the second story I have read from this author, and it follows a similar overarching formula. A regular, somewhat down-on-his-luck protagonist finds himself in extraordinary circumstances and manages to survive by the narrowest of margins. The tension comes from watching him navigate challenges that test both his abilities and his resourcefulness. The narrative emphasizes the struggle and incremental victories rather than instant triumph, creating a sense of realism within an otherwise fantastical setting.
Gradually, and very gradually, the protagonist gathers friends and allies, forming bonds that influence his journey and decisions. Over time, he grows more powerful, but the progression is measured and deliberate. This allows readers to appreciate the significance of each step forward. Though the story is only sixteen chapters in at the time of writing, the path ahead seems long and full of potential. As the narrative unfolds, the title will likely become increasingly appropriate.

(General disclosures - I'm far from a stranger to the author, and I have read the story on Patreon up to chapter 14)One thing I find extremely rare in novels - let alone serials - is to have a protagonist that has ambiguous morals without immediately backflipping into edginess. Meaning, I like to read about a character who’s willing to make difficult decisions or bend their sense of morality in order to accomplish something…but without it feeling like the plot is cosplaying as a more mature story than it actually is. Fortunately, Demonic Conqueror is one of those rare exceptions.CharacterThe protagonist starts out as a well-executed version of what you'd expect from a story like this. From the early chapters, you can see that he's not just going full "I need more power no matter what", but instead makes decisions according to his goals and his personality. The writing also hints at hidden depths to him that are looking to be explored as the story progresses. Really looking forward to seeing where he goes.StyleLike in the author's previous work, the style alternates between lighthearted humor and seriousness really well. It never feels like the humor takes away from the seriousness of the situation or vice-versa - it's very well done in that regard.GrammarHonestly, I didn’t spot too many (if any) mistakes in the chapters I’ve read. At most you'd spot the occasional typo that would go unnoticed by spellcheck, but the author is good about correcting those pretty much immediately.StoryIt's tough to judge the story when it's this early - I'm caught up to chapter 14 on Patreon, for reference. I can say that the worldbuilding starts getting really interesting around 3-6 chapters in (depending on what specifically you like about fantasy worlds - for me, it was 3). There’s a lot of foreshadowing that feels carefully planted instead of just tossed in. To me the best stories let you speculate and think about the world way ahead of any twists or revelations, so I love that this

I got recommended this story in a random "others also liked" ribbon, and I really didn't have high hopes for it. I'm very glad that the overall score seems to have undersold this one, because it was a treat to read. I may feel different about it next week, but chomping through book 1 was great fun, so enjoy my first review. The blurb sells Simon as an arrogant, holier-than-thou protagonist in a boring isekai LitRPG setting whose opening gambit is "fooling a god" so he can educate the savages, er,save the magical faux-medieval world. I really anticipated opening chapter 1, grimacing, and then bouncing off.Truthfully, I did have a number of complaints about the writing style when reading it (see below, spoilers are vague as possible), but my overall emotional reaction was mostly just,"man, I love reading about this insane little psycho gremlin". As a character, Simon is such a beautiful mixture of relatable, humanizing emotions and angst; really quite a novel and interesting portrayal of disruptive/disabling cognitive patterns; and a resultant mindset+behaviours which make me salivate at how destructive and maladaptive they are.The moral preaching was a little heavy-handed at times, both narratively and in-character from Simon himself. Relatedly, characters' alignment with respect to Simon was typically very straightforward, meaning the cast felt a little too black-and-white in how they fell. I felt as if complicating individuals either fell in line or were pruned from the plot. Also, the timeline felt a little sketch to me. There was an avalanche-down-the-mountain acceleration in the tempo of events which made me feel uneasy, but it was workable. I hope book 2 affords both us and the characters more time to take a deep breath and digest past events. This one does have some kinda-real spoilers in itI'm really not a huge fan of the writing crutch where you generate tension by making the protagonist play Russian Roulette to win every single fight. The first time they ass-p

Simon has a strong sense of morality, and that's an understatement. He sees what's wrong with the world, and he needs to do something about it. He finally gets his chance on another world and runs with it.
A lot of the appeal of this story lies in how far Simon is willing to go to do the right thing. Along with the questions asked about whether he took things too far. When does the moral calculus for his actions fall short? Does it matter that his motivations have more to do with his trauma than doing what's right? Wait, what's he doing with that molotov cocktail?
More important than the premise, I find the execution of it so far to be wildly entertaining. It doesn't just make you question things, it does so in a way that's fun, funny, and interesting. The author isn't new to writing, and it shows.
This one has a strong start. Most should already know if they like this by the end of the first chapter. If you're still not sure by then, sticking with it until the end of the seventh chapter (5.2) will be where it either hooks you or loses you.

Really good read, the characterization of simon and the world itself is well done, I find the message that inaction in the face of atrocity is as damaging as the atrocity itself poignant.
I am looking forward to seeing how far simon is willing to go to build the world he want to build

This is the third series I’ve read from this author, and it follows a similar overarching formula: a regular, somewhat down-on-his-luck protagonist finds himself in extraordinary circumstances and manages to just barely survive by the skin of his teeth. Gradually (VERY gradually) the protagonist gathers friends and allies, and grows more and more powerful. If you’re looking for something quick paced with an immediately-OP main character, this ain’t it. If you’re looking for a flawed character with a slow burn progression of power and some very important character moments, this is it, and I’d recommend looking at the author’s other works to get a bead on his style. This may be only 16 chapters in (at time of writing,) but there’s likely a LONG road ahead. It’s likely that as the story progresses, the title will become more and more fitting. For now, he doesn’t appear very demonic, but he wasn’t demonic at all at the start. Much like “Outcast in Another World: Is Insanity a Racial Trait,” the author’s first work, the protagonist is growing to fit the role he finds himself taking on.

I've read up until the current Patreon chapter (25, which I think will end up being 50 or something on RR due to a change in how chapters are divided). This story primarily excels at pacing. It deliberately moves from arc to arc, gradually progressing the plot/characterization in a way that is consistently enjoyable and engaging. If I had to point to one thing that tends to put me off of other web serials on RR, it's a persistent feeling that the chapters are the fiction version of junk food or something. Sometimes enjoyable, but not very "filling." With this, it feels like actual meaningful things happen in the plot on a regular basis, in a way that actually respects your time as the reader. It's just really good and I hope more people read it. I would encourage people to at least keep reading until the protagonist gains a companion, since I think things really pick up at that point (since we start to learn more about the setting and get more characterization from the protagonist himself). It's only continued to get progressively better up until the current Patreon chapter (and I was a little lukewarm on it for the first few chapters).(In case anyone is curious, the other two web serials in my top 3 are Super Supportive and Skill Thief, another underrated serial that I believe is co-authored by the same author as this, KamikazePotato.)

I'm really enjoying this so far. It shifts between being funny/light-hearted and serious/dark very smoothly. If you liked Outcast In Another World then you'll like this. It's not quite the same, but much of what I enjoyed from the former is present here. I'm excited to see where this goes!
