- Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I didn’t find the plot particularly engaging, but I think that comes down to personal preference because the story doesn’t have direct dialogue.
What this story does excel at is conveying the personality and experience (or rather lack thereof) of the main character through prose. It’s written in first person limited (a clever choice on the author’s part) and does a great job of showing how the MC interprets his relationship with his crew. And that’s the main reason why I’m giving this story 4.5 stars, because I know that king of POV is hard to pull off and a can be risky with a certain audience.
This story is very much character driven, which didn’t work for me because I couldn’t relate to the MC and a lot of his decisions. But I can see why the author write it that way and how it might work for other readers.
Either way, I wish the author the best of luck for the Community Contest 😊
