Description
Morrigan died as the unwilling sacrifice in a demonic ritual, but the Grim Reaper has another plan for this wayward soul—to make her his new apprentice!
Reaping isn't exactly her dream summer job, (long hours, crappy pay, no benefits) but with the alternative being banished to limbo, she's ready to give it a shot!
Will Morrigan embrace her new role as a bringer of death, or cling hopelessly to her lost humanity? Either way, she'll have to adapt to a world of spirits, hollows, black magic, and demons while completing herdaily murder listis "just part of the job."
***
What to expect:It varies between slice-of-life and darker and/or emotional themes. I wanted this story to be fun and able to make readers smile on occasion while also keeping consistent with a harsh reality and displaying realistic human struggles. Morrigan's character flaws are intentional and meant to give her room to grow.
There is eventually a GL relationship.
The world is basically our world but different in many ways, with the existence of reapers, witches, and gods being woven into history.
This story also containsgore and body horrorelements.
Additional Warning:While this is, in part, a coming-of-age story, it also deals heavily with death and the many forms it comes in.This includes murder, suicide, drug overdose, gruesome traffic accidents, and more. If these topics are something you'd rather avoid, please read something else.
Some particular chapters are gorier, more intense, and/or darker/traumatizing than others.I don't like doing trigger warnings at the beginning of chapters, so consider this your warning and proceed with cautionif these are things that may bother you.
*****
I plan for this to be a very long series spanning many centuries. The first few volumes will cover Morrigan's first years as an apprentice reaper, but I imagine later volumes covering her existence hundreds (or even thousands) of years from now as an experienced bringer of death.

- Ike5421Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Morrigan is a flawed character who we are watching grow into her own as a grim reaper, I am sure she will make us all proud. I love characters that learn from thier mistakes. She is a believable teenager who is dealing with a very stressful situation. The author does a fantastic job showing us who she is and how she feels in a compelling way.
The world building is well integrated with the story and is pretty interesting. The author does waste your time with world building that isn't yet relevant and gives you the details you need at the moment you want to learn about them.
Style the style isn't unique or interesting but serves the story well
This story is a very interesting slice of life. The overarching plot is v light, but that gives it a slightly episodic feel that works really well as a web novel. I have been enjoying experiencing the world threw our junior reapers eyes.
We are very early in the story there are a lot of elements of a heros journey but no indication of what kind of journey we are going on yet, hopefully it will become more clear as the Mc learns more about the job.
200 words is a lot - Samantha NelsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This tale, like many others, holds a lot of fun.
A girl who's on a mission. Death's job is never done.
That's why he calls in favors, opting to crowd source.
After all, the games do call, and she can drive the hearse.
Go read it; it's amazing. I'm looking forward to much more.
The rest of this is padding. You know just what it's for.
The grammar's not an issue. A flaw or two or three.
But that's about the rub of it, I say most thankfully.
The style's not poetic, but I don't think you'll care.
It's suited with a purpose, like a comfy chair.
The character's are starting, holding hints of something deep.
I'm excited for more details, counting them like sheep.
The story's at the races, the reaping starting fast.
We'll visit all the places, as the time does pass.
Now I need to end this poetry. But I also need more words.
So I leave you this dark wisdom, for those who are deterred.
Death is out there waiting. You don't want to make him mad.
Read the story and embrace him! I'm certain you'll be glad.
If you don't, he'll send his maiden, to come and take your soul.
Go and read the story. Don't pay the final toll. - FabioKunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The title is a reference to those who know, but it's a joke.
This emotional, heart-wrenching... story caught my attention, not only because of the awesome cover but also because of the incredible prose the author has blessed us with. What can I say? It's definitely a story worth reading if you're into seeing someone that you would not expect to be a grim reaper... be a grim reaper.
Very good grammar and story telling, it has its funnier moments but knows when to be serious, overall, nine point five out of a cat. - Jacksonzq7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good story, Uniqueish idea but completely unique execution at least to my knowledge. The writer gives a deepness to characters and their potential development by making them multidimensional. Everyone has their own things going onm no one is just like oh let's be the main characters ride alongs. Good pacing and writing skills. Not bad at all.
- ghastlyshadeRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Okay the mc is in way too much denial about her situation, she is weak hearted, the story isn't as interesting as it seams and cares way too much about a random cat. However the idea is decent, grammar isn't bad and there is decent storyline.
generally too much like aru sha. I could read more of it but its also probably going to end up being super stressful to read (assumption i know), it relies so heavely on plot armour like, death just has a feeling about her and then makes a crazy commitment after thousands of year being a bony skeleton, and last but not least, the old lady the mc just happens to meet is meant to die like 30 minutes after they meat and death brings her along?!
Thats most of what i wanted to say really but i need 200 words so: a talking cat is unoriginal but a cool thing to have, however that death has a cat and plays videogames?
while murdering people, also if its 50,000 people per reaper all with specific timing then how do they sleep regularly.
Another thing is it should be around 1.4 or so deaths per 24 hours so why is there more than that - ManlorRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This story has a very interesting setting. Urban fantasy grim reaper girl? Heck yeah!
The writing style is good in that it will get you immersed without drawing attention from the story.
I got just over 60 chapters in and we are starting to see a plot developing. Don't read this if you want a fast paced story. But it seems things were about to pick up.
There is enough going on if you like slow paced stories. And we were getting introduced to more of the settings and cast.
With all of the stories competing for my time, I have sadly lost sight of this one. I moved on and haven't looked back in two months. So maybe it is lacking a little something to keep me drawn in.
I feel like this story is still trying to find itself. But it has great potential. - PlatiusmanRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Story:
It's an interesting idea of that maturing process from teen to adult and beyond, but I just feel like the way it was brought about is silly. This is literally in the synopsis so I don't think it's a spoiler, but her introduction to becoming a reaper is a bit ridiculous. Like "hey you're now an immortal being with powers over death and souls let's give you a reticent guide and leave you be". I had more oversight and training on my first part time job and that was for just bagging clothes at a soon-to-be-shutdown store.
If this was more of a silly take on a reapers life and its adventures I could see it, but it was explicitly stated that the story will be consistently dealing with heavy topics. I can already see all of these upcoming situation being overdramatized by convenient happenstance and plot driven design. There were plenty of ways the story could have been handled in a way that made sense yet still allowed the usual teenage mistakes that lead to growth.
Grammar:
Great. I didn't see a single issue or awkward sentence.
Style:
A little dry but very consistent. It has a nice rhythm of details and action so the story moves along smoothly.
Character:
The few characters I've seen seem believable for how long I've seen them. And it's not like I can accurately guess what a millennium old reaper would act like so that seemed appropriate. Although, I am concerned that the main character lacks a bit of depth. From the very first chapter her entire personality and life is basically explained word for word. After that it feels a bit like "I've explained what she's like so now there's no reason to expand on it".
Overall:
I just don't like how the premise was handled. There are many ways to build an interesting world and I've never liked the ones that feel like they have intentionally been made flawed for the sake of creating drama for the plot. - Daniel ZRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Nice concept and generally well written urban fantasy fiction.
I dropped this story though as I ended up not standing the mc, as a bratty teen who is only proactive in getting into trouble.
There are also points of the plot and with other characters that feel a little forced, at least up to the point I dropped the story. - Vash209Royal Road★★★ 3.0The MC is very annoying. She gets an animal guide to teach her the ropes of being a reaper and immediately ignores it. Then she gets angry when it did not tell her important information... She whines constantly, throws tantrums, and is sarcastic.
If you like annoying teens as protagonists then good on you but I am an adult and have no patience for it. 3 stars because everything is fine but the story itself. Could have been something great with a more serious and somber main character. - HollexRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This story is very interesting and I can see a lot of potential in it. I loved how the author started the work and the reactions of the protagonist in the initial harrowing moments. But when things calm down, the protagonist takes on the posture of a spoiled child even when her existence depends on it.
You're going to see a lot of that kind of thing. Morrigan do this and she answers, I don't want to. As well as when you tell Morrigan not to do something, she does it, causing trouble.
Honestly this is the problem I see with this work that has good potential, as well as maybe a little bit the format of the work (format of the texts).
