DCO- Dungeon Core Online
Community Rating
Description
James hates his real life. He spends his days being bullied in school, and at home he simply reads and plays games. The only thing he has to look forward to is immersion. When he is immersed in the virtual world he can be whatever, whoever, he wants: He can escape the world that has thrown him away.
As such, when a new game, Dungeon Core Online, comes out, James is excited to play. He immerses himself as soon as he can, but when he is set to create his character he is instead offered a different choice. Now, James is the Dungeon Core and he suddenly finds himself wielding more power, with more options, than he's ever had before. The only downside... there are people in the real world who do anything, even kill, to gain the power of a Dungeon Core in the virtual world.
This is the Final Arc. The first 4 Arcs are now available as published novels.

- GreenKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this book at 10 chapters and put off leaving a review until I was confident in the way it was heading. This style of dungeon core is unique and has an endless number of possibilities. Id write more but I would gush a bit. I strongly recommend this book but know that nothing is perfect.
- Armageddon156Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a fresh exciting take on the dungeon core genre, honestly, It blew my mind at first. Most times it's an MC having to slog through a dungeon and crush fearsome monsters but now it's been flipped over, the mc is the dungeon and has to keep looking for ways to crush unsuspecting adventurers
- ToutomoutochanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm only just starting to really get into DC books, but this is a pretty good one. The MC (named after the author, which is a little disconcerting) isn't overpowered but manages to hold his own--most of the time 😉. The adventurers are also fun to watch. The chapters are short but seem to be frequent (as far as I can tell; I'm not caught up yet). The writing could be a bit more polished, but that's often true in Web fiction. All-in-all it's an enjoyable story.
Edit: So, this has become one of my favorite fics. I recently got lazy about keeping up with a lot of stories on RR, but this is one I always make sure I tead. - AllinianRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5When I first started reading I was not expecting what happened to happen. The wait for the next chapter is always one that makes me wish I could time jump and see the next update sooner. It is a truly good read.
- MalKenDovRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5When i first read this i got hooked because of the random aspect which makes it funny. The Pop culture references are also good.
Character Wise, they are realistic. James was bullied, so it makes sense for him to be a bit of a wimp. Rue basically died and spent most of her time in solitude. also with 1 hour equaling a day she basically spent years alone.
I barely saw any grammar error, i say barely cause i don't remember if i seen them.
The plot is good for a comedy MMO dungeon core. Not to serious, but has it moments.
Overall this is a great story for a MMO dungeon core book.
Thank you for writing this book, and also for making it free.

The characters are a little boorish with no character seeming to defy their traits at any time (dumb bullies, semi-roleplay knights), most of the interest seems to come from betting and progress. Most conflict is a character doing something unexpected, the bullies and now a cheat achievement. Discussions with the author and the editor have proved fruitful for new ideas, but as it stands the writing is somewhat slow; though it has picked up pace with the recent occurrence.
Overall a good read with some awkwardness and lack of forethought, but hopefully with some pace and combat improvements; and perhaps some dummy adventurers (eg hireable NPCs), some solo characters and variation on parties (5/6 a party? Why never 2--4 or 10 or so?); a raid (likely to happen soon) and so on; plus a look at the outside world; there might be more improvements.
Not going to say that I would be capable of writing a better story. I would be unlikely to. It's that the changes could introduce more conflict and more forethought that it becomes possible. - BadzRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The writing style is good. We can divide each immersion so we can binge read the story.
The story's grammar didn't affect my immersion in the story. Some character however, really p1sses many readers. For me, it's Fel and sometimes James himself. For others, it's Rue and James himself.
As for the characters, James and Rue is not liked by many readers. Add Fel from the latest chapters, I really disliked her character. Even if there's not much likeable character in the story, the character building is solid (except for James, many can question how on earth he became top player in some games).
The last part, which is the story or plot. Uhm, the start sucks, but I get addicted afterwards. Although I don't like some plots, but hey, this is not my story nor book. I'm just here to read and leave a review.
Also, I felt pity and anger on why James become like dog or puppy in front of Fel. Shouldn't he at least say "Even if Alex did that or you protect me, I won't tell you more info about the dungeon". The part where James told where the portal to the 5th floor is and when he just accepted that one of his players barged in the 5th floor (the spring part and James is under attack). Some might say to me "James is scared or he is grateful that's why it's justifiable for him to agree on what that b1tch said". I don't agree with that, The story shows the reader multiple times that his current passion is to become the best dungeon core. And as the best dungeon core, shouldn't at least not spoil some insider's news? Even if it's just for one player, it's still a player. You know, forget it. I just don't like James for being like that.
Overall, I give this 4 star. This should be 5 star if James can grow spine. I highly recommend this book, Thanks for reading this review. - JBRhorstRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a pretty darned good story, but I say that hesitantly as the author does something that I, personally, disagree with: Directly referencing otherworks. Tropes are fun because they are meant for people who are in-the-know and are something you can chuckle about while reading. So, while I like all the tropes and memes in this story, I think it is going a bit over the top to reference them; this isn't a textbook, you are not selling the story itself and the proceeds you are making from it are basically donations to increase your output. You don't NEED to tell us where the tropes are coming from and it acts a lot like story-fluff to boost the wordcount.
That being said, the only other thing I have an issue with in your story (I'm at chapter 75 atm) is that you have a lot of misspelled or improperly used words. And one more thing, you should be using -esque instead of esq. Esq is the shortened from of esquire.
Finally, despite the fact that the title of my review is "The Least Original GOOD Dungeon Core Ever", take that with a pinch of salt. All Dungeon Core novels are fairly unoriginal, after you've read a few of them, with deviations to starting monster race, plot, and character personalities setting them apart. Almost all of them have some form of lover/dungeon helper, a means of progression (unless you are Benjamin Medrano and say screw dungeon progression), and some form of whitty-yet-cynical outlook that lets them do Dungeon-y things without having their minds break from the horrendous nature of their atrocities. Glyax takes these traits to the funny-random extreme. It makes the story interesting, fairly novel, and unpredictable.
Kudos, Glyax. I'm looking forward to your later chapters. - WheelsRoyal Road★★ 2.0While occasionally fun, the best parts of the story(creativity and fun with design) are seriously handcapped by decisions made early on(random monsters chosen and designed by other people, floor designs heavy influenced by choices made before knowing monster type), resulting in these sections feeling less like cool explorations of what the main character can come up with, and more like the main character getting handed a complete design plan and just having to implement it.
On top of that, the major plot arcs are usually uninteresting, boring, or just plain cringe inducing.
The story always feels like it needs to get back to what it does well, but when it does get back to it, it feels like it wants to be doing anything but. - Kyrian ClawraitheRoyal Road★ 0.5I really enjoy this story for the most part. It's original, somewhat unique, and has a lot of flesh in its characters.
However it takes my #1 Pet peeve to a whole new level, by adding it to a huge portion of the characters. What is this grave sin? This story has almost all of its characters act mean for no reason.
This doesn't happen in real life as everyone has a reason for being mean, however in this story the characters are mean, rude, and downright dumb just to progress the story.
