Description

Anathema, monsters that brought ruin to humanity. Thirty years ago, they attacked our world, and despite our best efforts, we were defeated. Then came the Zenith, illuminating our dark world. It provided us with seven sanctuary cities to house the remaining humans, the survivors. It also bestowed upon us the power to repel Anathema: magical girls and guardians. Now, thirty years later, humanity is trying to reconquer the Earth, to reclaim what was once ours. New Mesa was one such effort. However, that passion didn't reach me. Despite being an honor student and always maintaining proper behavior, I was not chosen as a magical girl. Perhaps because, unlike others, my feelings weren't genuine. I didn't idolize magical girls and guardians like everyone else. Yet, against all odds, one day, I was chosen to became a magical girl. How can I inspire hope and dreams in others when I lack them myself? So far, this series is great. There's lore behind it, it has good side characters, and an interesting power system to lock things in.
The main character herself is nicely written as well. She isn’t some easy to understand at first glance kind of character, at least from my perspective. And on top of that, she has a layer of complexity when it comes to her mentality and thoughts.
    Overall, I’d give this a 9/10. (I'm very picky if you can't tell😉)

There are grammatical errors which may turn away those who cannot handle it, but the overall writing is actually decent which matters to me far more.
This story is definitely an adaptation of mikasane's Gunslinger Girl and the world that they created, for any readers who have been waiting and hoping for more Gunslinger Girl content (and yes, mikasane is still writing despite the story being on hiatus).

The author knows what it takes to write a good story, all the elements ARE there... but the execution, the most important part of all, isn't.
The spirit of the story is dead. Instead we get a list of story ingredients served to us half-baked like a shitty text to speech reading an ingredient list of a recipe. Paying minimal attention to the steps taken. Rushing through the plot like it's a race. The minimal displayed isnt even the minimum to make it work, just the minimum to show the writer's intent. Overall, it reads like an authors notes on what to write listed in chronological order rather than an actual finished product.
A shame, I wanted to like this.

As a story it has some merit, but the execution is severely lacking. Full of awkward exposition and rough dialogue, even interesting elements lose their shine with the sheer amount of telling instead of showing.
The grammar mistakes in the synopsis turned me away the first few times I came across this story, but the actual writing appears decently edited with just a few mistakes like tensing here and there. Unfortunately, there is an awkwardness with the phrasing and dialogue that begs comparison to writers with a less-than-complete grasp of english, or perhaps non-professionally translated works.
I can't recommend this story unless you really enjoy reading fan-translated chinese webnovels or are frothing at the mouth for more magical girl stuff.
