Description

In a world where magic means everything, a young boy named Talos has to learn how to overcome his disease called Crystal Path.

Through the help of his family, they learn that in time, Talos disadvantage will lead to near unmatched strength.  While he starts behind his peers in ability, he slowly learns to make up for it with ingenuity.  Between making the most of minimum magic ability and learning alternative forms of strength, he slowly prepares himself to join a magic academy by 15.

What to expect:

Strategic Slow Burn

A meek, underdog MC that slowly grows in confidence.

A young MC growing and learning to be prepared for a world that will look down on him until he grows in power.

The MC will technically start ahead of average people in raw power, but due to his circumstances he will be unable to use his power properly.  This will lead to him not being considering strong until later, when he learns to over come his disadvantage.

Post schedule:  Thursdays at 8:30 with bonus secondary chapters posted on Tuesdays at 8:30.  Secondary chapters happen when I'm ahead of schedule.  As a new author my goal is a minimum of one chapter a week, but if I can consistently write multiple chapters a week for several weeks I will adjust to post more.

This is my first story I am writing and with exception of chapter one, it is in its first draft.  I plan to go back and edit the story once complete.  So if you like the idea of the story, but the writing is currently not up to your standards, I recommend to put it your read later and check back at a later time for edits.

I’ve really enjoyed this story up to chapter 11, and what kept me reading was the emotional core. The family moments always hit hardest—Eleanor’s worry, Talon’s pride, and Talos’s honest determination. The scenes with Richard’s past or Eleanor crying into Talon’s chest stuck with me because they felt real.
The magic training has been another highlight. The way mana pathways, gates, and the pendant were described was easy to imagine, and the hologram projection scene stood out as a vivid image. The setup with the crystal and armor promises something larger on the horizon, which gives the training more purpose than just power-ups.
The children’s group brought in a new layer of energy. Their dialogue felt like actual kids—playful, bossy, defensive, curious—and it was heartwarming to see Talos go from fear of being mocked to acceptance. That shift in tone made for a good contrast with the heavier drama.
The reason I stopped at chapter 11 wasn’t a lack of interest, but pacing. Some conversations stretched a little long, with repeated points or sentences that ran over. At times, the tension would slip, and that would pull me out of immersion. A tighter edit—shorter lines in dialogue, less repetition, and more action beats to show emotion—would really sharpen the flow without losing the heart.
Overall, this has been a grounded, heartfelt beginning with strong characters and a clear sense of growth. With a bit of polish, especially in pacing and sentence flow, the story could shine even brighter.
