Also, this story gets into the concept of card smithing much faster than Irwin's journey. Honestly, one of the main reasons I am taking the time to add a review is to get more chapters published by the author. I wish there were already 400 chapters for me to binge! - CataFlanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its a wonderful travel till now. A lot of expectations, but they are being fulfilled quite pleasently. If you're reading this and deciding if it's worth to read this novel, my opinion is: Yes, it's worth it! - DinapsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A great start to an interesting concept for a story. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Only issue is minor and pertains to when characters talk to each other; it doesn't feel quite like natural speech to me. Might just be a me thing, but it's a bit distracting and detracts from the overall flow of the writing.
Otherwise, a great read. - Shades98Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this story is 55 chapters in and we have a gutter rat climbing against a corrupt political system, everybody wanting to climb the tower and gain power. There are your normal rarities and level system. It is a full world and very good world building were if you climb the tower your world gains more power. So it is very logical in all ways including why the MC is a gutter rat.
The MC has a desire to get stronger and a chip on his shoulder due to corrupt political system and he gains the power to change the system. - jajabaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0story plot..character building...everything so far is very good....so far this story kept me reading and BAM next thing i know im all caught up....sad i have to wait for the next chapter release...please give this a shot you'll be just as surprise as me when its BAM *error*** u have to wait for the next release..hahha..i really enjoyed this story....
- MortifRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like the title says, so far the story is interesting, and enjoyable, the chapters could be longer sure, but the Author posts daily so it does pan out. Is this a polished final draft, no but I have always thought of Royal Road as a place to post first or second drafts so it will be interesting to see how the Authors style and story grow in the future.
- Patwil0818Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review will be simple. I like the story and I think that if you give me a shot, you would like it as well. The mechanics of the card magic were interesting to discover, The story had enough action intertwined with actual story events to keep a Reed hooked, and the main characters unique twist is both interesting at weaker levels, but with the promise of being overpowered at higher levels.
The best parts of the story: An intelligence stat that actually seems to be intelligent. Our main character can think both quicker and develop plans for multiple situations. A couple of mysteries that we get its of information throughout the story to slowly build up.
The good parts of the story: The card mechanics allow for development of a society and not just adventures. Our main characters cheat is well developed and allows for an interesting spread of abilities. Our main characters reason for pushing himself is to develop nicely, but also challenged by other characters that he meets along the way. The rating as well done, especially the main character’s voice that comes through.
The parts I wished were changed: Our main character is 10, but doesn’t come across as 10 years old. It would make more sense if my main character was 15 or 16 versus 10. Villagers are a bit too much one dimensional evil. It does serve to push on main character forward, but it would be better if it wasn’t such a trope.
Overall, this is an exciting new addition to the card, magic genre, and everyone should give it a try. - JaaaaaaaacobRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The world is unique and well thought out. The story is clearly planned ahead of time. The Mc is easy to root for. The MC is 10 in the story and sometimes it is hard to believe but only because he is a full character with real trauma and problems. He becomes the main provider for his grandma at 10. Great story!
- BtothetuckRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5What a fun, fun story! This series is easy to pick up and accidentally read ~45 chapters of in one sitting, don't ask me how I know.
Shouren is a multifaceted character who feels like he was raised poor, which is a common trait for MC's without actually being applied. Trust me, Shouren is born and raised POOR and you can tell. Despite that he's still an intelligible, well-rounded character that's fun to watch and learn about.
The card system is straightforward, society is more evil than the dungeon, plus the path to power feels unique yet credible. I know MC's usually feel overpowered quickly, but Shouren is 10 and raised very poor as well as intentionally untaught about the rules, so it feels naturally he grows into an unusual path and beneath the notice of the world.
The side characters have been just as interesting as the main ones, you can see plot points coming but they still surprise you with their outcome, and there are extremely few grammatical errors. You can see the effort the author has put in to make the story shine!
Strong recommendation from me!! (and I usually wait for stories to release their first book on Kindle) - RunslerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I liked the promise of the story so far. The world is mostly believable, the magic/system seem to make sense (what little of it is known so far) and most importantly: I want to know how it'll continue.
(Also uses metric system, which is a hughe plus)
But... Sadly it's having some flaws. A few grammar and spelling mistakes, a few weird wordings and overall it's not "flowing" as smoothly as some other stories do. It gets me hooked through content, but the writing is just good enough to not push me away (although English is only my second language, so I'm far from perfect either).
To me the biggest problem tho is inconsistencies. Trying without spoiling too much: a character is too weak to climb a tree to gather food, but a few chapters later the same character (without much chance to gain strength in between) climbs almost to the highest branches of another, likely much taller tree.
The same weak, malnourished and young character later starts a fire with friction based survival techniques (which is extremely difficult in the real world and even professionals often can't do it or need a long time for it if they're in a territory with unknown materials). Not long after it rained.
Character wise, we don't know many yet. Most seem to be okay (as in: believable). The MC tho kinda swings between young child with a heart of gold and a paranoid adult with very violent tendencies. A somewhat unstable mental state absolutely makes sense, but the way it's portrayed sometimes gives more of a "the author forgot the age of his protagonist" feel.
Overall I do want to continue it, but it's one of these stories where an editor, beta reader or the likes could improve it by a lot.
