Description
In a dark future, the demonic Grim Horde rules most of the Earth, and Britain has just fallen. The last survivor of the island is the young wizard Soren Marlowe, the newest student at the Nagoya Academy of Magic. To all appearances, he is a normal enough young man, if a little girl crazy.
Little do they know that he's an exiled devil, one of the very same demons who helped destroy the fallen island! Now thrust into the middle of someone else's romantic comedy, Soren will need to think fast to keep his secret and, just maybe, find a little romance.
Note: I used to have the Mature tag on this story, until I realized that I was never going to go past about a PG-13 or light R rating.

- tmagearcherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve very much been enjoying the undercover/invader/magical academy stuff so far. The characters are all fairly decent. As of chapter thirty the spelling and gra-THIS DUDE GONNA GET THE DEMON STABBED OUTTA HIM SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s really to bad they don’t have romance-horror as a genre in demon land. That or he’s got a list of contingencies a mile long.
*edit. Gave that final .5 star. I no longer have reservations based on the genre and eagerly await the sequel - kwudRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been with the story since I first discovered it, I basically found it already 30 chapters in and binged it to catch-up and now I read every update that comes out.
I really enjoy the writing style of the story, its fun to know that everything’s going to be ok; because it’s a memoir, but still get blindsided when the author tells us how the hell our main character got into or out of a certain situation. The characters in the story seem pretty relatable to what you would expect from kids in school (yea the characters are all of age but their technically just kids in school). I constantly find myself thinking, yeah I could see that happening, or I could see this person doing that.
As far as the spelling and grammar go in the story it is spot on, I really enjoy catching errors..and realizing that it makes sense because of the language fabricata that the author created in the story :P
Characters themselves seem to be pretty fleshed out in most cases; I like the consistency of how the characters act, unlike most romances where someone makes a really stupid choice purely to advance the plot. It feels more to me like we have some real people, making real choices…..with a lot of influence from anime culture.
100% would recommend reading, thoroughly enjoyable, also the magic system is really neat, affinities and runic spells. Definitely my jam. - AliBBRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really good story, the fact that he is a spy works great for keeping the tension going throughout the story. I can't wait for more chapters to come out.
- HoloSolRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What really sets this book aside is its witty one liners and humor. There really aren't too many fictions this site that have actually made me laugh. This one is one of them.
+Decent plot that doesn't move at a snails pace
+Interesting Characters
+Humor
+Magic school (love this genre)
5/5 Stars - VMJaskierniaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0To start off- yes it's a teensy bit difficult to get into this story on Royal Road because the first two books are in Kindle Unlimited. But we do get several chapters of book 1, and book 2, and both have a good overview summary that lets us know what's going on. You can easily use that to start reading book 3.
And if you want to know more about books 1 and 2- go buy them. They're on Amazon and as previously stated, in KU. So you may even be able to nab them for free.
Overall Score: Wonderful imaginative story with great characters, prose, and story. It's very anime-esque, and our main characteris a flirt. Whether you like this is up to you.
Style: a good easy to read style. First person, with the summaries being in third.
Grammar: Perfect. As far as I can see there are no issues at all.
Story: It's very anime-esque. It's a harem story, but with a great world and characters and people. I love the different races.
Character: They feel real and alive in a way that I haven't seen all that often lately. Some tropes come through for some characters, but tropes used well are there for a reason. - Vuck L. WolfRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hidden gem one of the best fictions on RR in my opinion hope this getts atention it deserves.
- Ysgramor's Soup SpoonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story flows like a proffesional author wrote it. Kinda reminds me of Name of the wind where you know the ending but that makes the book even more enjoyable. Author did great on that hidden identity trope that can be a bit of a pitfall. And lastly the harem (it lasts for like the first book and then dissappears before it can overstay it's welcome). It doesn't fell like girls unnaturarly fall in it and they aren't 2D copies from elsewhere.
Conclusion: Wow, much good, such great.
Spoon out - advocatezzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nice alternation and pacing between slice of (school) life , action, and drama.
Apart from our protagonist Soren there are all other casts (both girls and guys) with interesting personalities and pasts as well. Best part is the fact that not every girls are just going to fall for MC for cliches reason like "he saves me in a pinch etc etc". - DarchRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First things first- is the story good? Absolutely. Does it have problems? Again, absolutely. Would I reccommend it? With every fiber of my being.
In terms of style, what we have here is a mix between Harry Potter and a demon apocalypse. Humanity is doomed and the world is subtlely built up to show every little thing that has changed while keeping it familiar enough to understand the changes immediately. The world building is the most well written part of the story. It looks professional and could be published as it is written. Even the power system is introduced fluidly, as every new spell and powerup is seamlessly introduced and used to build up the main cast.
The grammar doesn't even need to be mentioned. If i didn't know any better, i'd say it has seen the hand of a few professional editors. It's just plain good.
The story is almost as good as the style and grammar. There are factions and machinations everywhere to keep the reader occupied, and the pacing is incredibly well done. Every major event has proper foreshadowing and affects every faction that we know of. The realistic portrayal of how humans divide themselves between pacifism, radical ideologies, and everything in between when confronted with a major threat is a great case study on humanity in general. With that said, however, the story is slightly bogged down by the use of the characters.
First, I must say that every single character is relatable and realistic. The conversations shown are all very well done and advance the plot beautifully. With that said, the character introductions are problematic. Every character is introduced by their primary character trait and goal (e.g. yukiko is uptight and wants to be free from family obligation, mariko is a pacifist who wants to return to a peaceful world so much that it borders on a condition, etc.). So far so good- this is a great way to introduce characters, and makes them incredibly easy to relate to. Then Soren (the mc) jumps into the mix. The author has - Bored monsterRoyal Road★ 0.5I liked this novel. I really liked it. The characters were complex. They had their own reasonings. The MC was haunted by his mother's death and refuses to acknowledge what that means.
Spoiler: Spoiler
But like I said chapter 29 killed it for me. Basically he hits on a girl, Yuriko. She says no. Blah blah blah. Staright up tells him anymore and it's harassment. Then Soren makes a deal with the girl. A duel (it was to see if he's qualified for the team). He says he won't harass her if she wins and if he wins, a kiss. Huge flag, btw. Anyways, she wins, gloats then he grabs her by the hand and kisses her.
Many other things happened but I was so... disappointed by that. So many things he could've done. And the worst part for me was that everyone of the girls he surrounded himself with keeps saying he's been through a lot, give him a break.
Even Hiro (the hero basically) punches him once and says don't do it again. Then at the end of that chapter(33), Hiro feels bad (from the viewpoint of the MC).
It was just so infuriating to have that end like, 'Oh, it's Soren. What can you do?'
Edit: The thing is that the story perpetuates rape culture. Killing and stealing in stories, for people with a bit of common sense doesn't really affect them but these kinds of things (non-consensual stuff) make it seem 'normal' (a.k.a. glorifies it) and worst of all were the comments in that chapter (and a couple afterwards) is just sick. Eg,
The MC sexually assaults a woman.
Commenters: Ha! She deserved it. Maybe she should've minded her own business. Look at her being so arrogant, she deserved it.
No she didn't. She won fair and square, but how can you defend against rape culture against toxic people?
