To anyone hesitating on whether or not to read this fiction. In the words of the great Shia Labeouf ,"JUST DO IT!". Seriously though, if you're a fan of Worm, or even if you (like me) aren't, this novel is definitely worth a read. To me, this is like Worm, but with a more relatable MC, who also has cooler powers. Many thanks to the author and I hope you never stop writing you wonderful person you.

I'm normally one to avoid fanfictions, but the premise interested me so I decided to give it a shot.I'e only read the beginning chapters of The Worm, but I'm quite femiliar with The Gamer. My first impression of The Worm is that it's a grimdark superhero famtisy, that takes itself very seriously. In this series, the world is the same.  But because the new MC's perspective is very different from the orig, it gives it a completely different tone without actually changing much of the base.  The world is still serious, real knives, guns, and death.  It's adressed that people with powers (or "capes") tend to be personally affected by the powers they own.Our MC in this series, has the power of The Gamer, where he becomes a game character.  With a body that can't be permenitly damaged, and a mind immune to trauma, he treats every situation like it's a game.  He's light-hearted, easily excitable, quite adorible and is dangerously niave to a fault.  The author discribes him to be like a puppy, and I definitely agree.Other characters are worried for his mental state, which keeps the series grounded in reality and the MC from being stupidly OP.For example, normal people would be freaked out if your power required you to bash yourself over the head with a wrench to get stronger.  But not only is Greg fine with it, he's quite happy about it.  Since it's only the results that matter to him.  No matterwhatit prompts him to do. Strong emphesis on that.Alarming niavity aside, his personality is refereshing from the MC from The Gamer. Who considered his new power and surviving with it a chore.  Greg's happiness with his new situation is contagious, with how many of us picture ourselves being in his place.A slice-of-life/comedy character stuck in a grimdark world, it's no surprise his personality is concerning to friends and loved ones, and heavily disturbing to rivals and enemies.  It's extremely entertaining.Props to the author, you're writing the first fanfiction I greatly prefer ove

I wasn't sure if I liked Greg in the beginning. He seemed to have a big mouth without being able to back it up, and he often acted thoughtlessly. Or at least not with as much thought as I felt would be prudent.
Has this behavior changed? Not really. Has he changed? Definitely! And that makes all the difference.
His threats no longer feel empty, his self-assuredness is backed up by actual skill, and he's slowly but surely learning that even though he has powers, his actions have consequences, good and bad.
I know this makes him seem like an immature airhead, but listen: give it a try. He grows in power and as a person, and his journey from weak nerd to really hecking strong, still nerdy, "hero"? Super satisfying.
The author is also very good at writing action scenes, which is a must for stories likes these.
At the current chapter, I'm looking forward to seeing how his best friend, Sparky, is going to grow after getting out of the situation he's currently in. Their friendship dynamic is interesting, and I feel like what's currently happening will allow Sparky to understand Greg better.
People underestimating Greg is something of a theme in the story, which fits his age and how people act in general, in my opinion. Of course, this makes sense seen from their perspective rather than Gregs, which is why I appreciate the chapters with different points of view.
I'm absolutely looking forward to seeing where this story goes, which bridges Greg will build and burn, and how he finds his place in the world. I don't imagine it'll be easy, since his outlook and morals are quite different from most of the people he deals with, but that only makes it more interesting.
There are some very rare typos in the story, but really it's just about one every few chapters.

If you like gamer Stories and worm fanfiction this is the story to read.Even if worm tells you nothing you should go for it. Great to see it on this site.I think deep (or not so deep) we each have a little Greg in us. Therefore this tale of Greg struggling against his autistic personality is harrowing gripping in many moments.

I've read alot of royal road, and I mean ALOT like past three years going through just about every story that catches my fancy and I can honestly say that this one is one of the few that I'll be following. One of the main reasons is because the MC is an actual PERSON not just the author writing from their perspective etc. Also I have no idea what Worm is but I don't have too which is great. but it makes me want to read worm. Keep up the good work! I'll be reading

I started reading this fiction while completely ignoring the whole 'fan-fiction' element. As far as I'm concerned Worm doesn't exist because despite trying I could not read the original after this.
I only started reading because I used to enjoy reading The Gamer comic but frankly the story itself is amazing. Greg Veder as a character is just so entertaining to read about. The story actually let's you feel his changes as he matures.
I love the romance he has going. His relationship with Sparky really well made. The fights scenes are absolutely mouthwatering. (This might be a personal bias but swords are just awesome). The only drawback is that the author is sick. But seriously kudos to that guy. Absolute genius. That side non-cannon side story of Sparky going insane just shows how amazing the guys mind is, like I could feel the insanity vibes from that chapter.
Putting it simply this be an amazing story. Plz don't die author.

A lot of the negatives that I'm seeing are that it isn't true enough enough to the source material. It's a fan fiction. An excellent one at that with great world-building and well fleshed out characters, but it's not the same story. This is a dark action lightened by minor comedy that becomes darker and more serious over time. For plot/inherent reasons Greg Veder is a highly unreliable narrator with a detached mental state that often brings him in conflict with his environment, and for me this is the best written and most interesting element of the story.
Greg's powers change the way he thinks about himself and his environment by making him view it as if he is a character in a video game. He takes most situations extremely lightly, seeks out quests and levels and is generally emotionally detached from violence and death. Over the course of the story Greg gradually loses touch with who he was and does his best to robotically imitate his past-self's mannerisms, which some people like his mother and main friends pick up on to varying extents. In later chapters it appears he may not even need a physical brain and is still capable of partial cognition upon losing it so this is in some part body-horror. A gradual descent into madness, casually switching between extreme violence and everyday life often to the shock of those who are there to witness the dissonance.

A quirky story that seems to be getting better as the series progresses.
Enough action to keep things interesting without hampering the story and world building.
Definately worth a look if your after something a little lighter then some of the darker/broody stories on this site.

    This story is awesome.
    That's it.
The only knock on it is that the author is in school, and thus has more important things to do than push out massive numbers of chapters of it.
    Read it.  Love it.
The grammar is well done, except when some of the characters are speaking, but that's done intentionally.  The spelling has no issues.  The plot makes sense and has internal consistency.
Yes, its Worm fac-fic, but GVvTW is very worth your time.

Another great work by one of the best authors i've read in the last couple of years. greg vs does an amazing job of showing that just getting amazing powers doesn't change the fundamental core of a person and that being a hero takes more than just power leveling sword skills.
if you're looking for an entertaining story with a solid voice for it's underdog main character as he changes from normal dork with social issues to super dork with social issues and genuine maturity, this is the story for you.
also the fight scenes are pretty solid
