Description
Ace Attorney-inspired comedic legal drama meets Otome Isekai meets slow-burn rivals to lovers romance. Clara Casewell is an ambitious up-and-coming associate at an international corporate law firm. On the surface, Clara has everything: a promising future, a prestigious career, a fancy apartment, and more money than she knows what to do with. Yet underneath, she’s hiding something not quite-so-lawyerly: shelovesreading villainess stories. It doesn’t matter how trashy or badly written they are; as long as it’s got a haughty girl and a brooding duke, Clara will devour it like popcorn! She only has one pet peeve: she can’t stand it when those stories have legal drama, because their badly designed legal systems invariably piss her off. After putting in thousands of billable hours and closing a deal the papers called ‘the merger of the decade’, Clara ekes out a promotion to Senior Counsel over her longstanding rival, the cocky Warren Righton. The firm flies her out to Boston to celebrate, but when a nasty bout of turbulence sends her plane spiraling down, everything goes dark. When Clara wakes up, she’s wearing a… maid’s uniform? She finds herself in a world of nobles and magic, not social media and corporate grind. Not ideal, but better than being dead—if not for onelittleproblem: Clara’s master is the notorious Iris von Rhenia, the villainess of one of the stories she’d read. And Iris and Clara are about to be put on trial for poisoning the heroine. A trial based ontruth magic, where the accused get no defense. Join Clara as she learns the ins-and-outs of the unfair, convoluted, and often fantastical courts of the Holy Kingdom of Arcadia, meeting a colorful cast of characters including the heir to the Duke of the North™—but why does he lookeerilylike her annoying rival Warren? Surely fantasy law can’t be harder than modern cross-border taxation, right? Join us on our VillainessDiscordto discuss this and other Villainess stories on RR!Access advance chapters withPatreon! - A ProofreaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is hilarious. A very fun mix of Otome style Isekai plot and a certain videogame franchise's legal drama and puns/wordplay. The presumed love interest is a smarmy, cocky, jerk, at least that's the vibe he gives off; he probably has layers to him.The protagonist is very entertaining to watch, as is the Villainess. Over all, well worth the read.

The mix of PW-style courtroom drama and isekai works way better than you’d expect, and the trial scenes are definitely the highlight.
That said, the "villainess" part of the title is definitely showing. If you’re into that, you’ll probably love it. If you’re not (like me), it might not fully click even though the concept is strong.
Overall, still a great read and worth checking out, especially if you are a fan of the genre. - ChristieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story scratches an itch I didn’t know I had. It’s captivating and genuine, which is really really really hard with these themes! It mixes what I enjoy reading on an everyday basis with a nice-to-have sense of law and order. I’ve never seen this in an isekai, kingdom, fantasy, magic book before, and that alone already made it stand out to me.
I surely love every chapter and advise you to also give it a try. I am sure you would enjoy it too. The pacing keeps me interested and curious about what will happen next, while still giving enough space for the story and the world to develop naturally.
Until now, I love the characters and have nothing taking my immersion out of the reading. Their interactions feel natural and they fit well within the story. I can easily follow their motivations and the situations they are put in.
It is written with care, and you will notice it while reading. The author clearly put thought into how the story unfolds and how the characters move through the world. That attention makes the reading experience smooth and enjoyable, and it keeps me looking forward to the next chapter every time. - BookwormMadnessRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you enjoy Otome Isekai with delightfully absurd characters, this story is for you
If you enjoy Ace Attorney or other courtroom dramas, this story is for you
If you enjoy rivals with a remarkable amount of chemistry for how much they seem to hate each other, this story is for you
The main character feels genuinely interesting, the side character get to have personalities and issues of their own, and the courtroom sections feel brilliantly thought out - EstantiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this when feeling unwell and needed cheering up. It did not disappoint.
The character work is excellent, Clara is a fascinating protagonist, Righton is a prosecutor who is insufferable in the best way and we get very quickly to the stage of ace attorney games where the lawyers are working together from opposite sides of the courtroom, which is the best bit. Not only that but Iris is a villainess who actually remains a (complex) villainess in the way she can be terrifyingly ruthless in efficiency as well as deeply fond of her people and sharply intelligent.
I am a massive fan of found family and this definitely is starting to tick those boxes as well as threading a core mystery(ies) through the background. I can see several pieces of it coming together already and am very curious to see how my early guesses shake out.
There are also beginnings of romance hints starting to come through, and even if it might not be realistic and I would be more than happy with the obviously signalled pairing, I'm still kind of hoping to see a polyamory setup falling out of this, the dynamics between Iris, Clara and Righton are extremely fun and would make a lot of sense with the established noble politics.
Additionally, YES the politics between different nobles and factions are wonderfully written with enough intricacy and a light hearted enough tone that it doesn't become tedious, the ace attorney genre really helps with that kind of thing. - Isekai_SeekerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This a great story that manages to capture the vibes of ace attorney cases, in fact i find myself picturing the court scenes in the format of the games while reading them.
Unlike other villaness stories the mc doesn't just roll with basically replacing the person who was originally in her "role", instead she is worries about that and feels guilty but without letting it hold her back from interacting with others.
There is some budding romance that i am personally looking forward to its not yuri which many might be upset about, but i personally think her chemistry with the male lead is quite great despite their clashing personalities. - IvorieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read this story without an account and signed up for one just so I can leave this review :)I'm probably not the target audience since I did not play the game that was heavily referenced in the story, but that did not interfere with my enjoyment in the slightest. This story is very well-written. There's a good balance between comedy and intelligible plots. The author blended the different genres seamlessly. The story somehow incorporated the style of the game, period drama and typical otome webnovel altogether yet the language does not feel stiff at all. Each character archetype has its own personality which is refreshing to see. You can easily tell the stereotype of each character yet they feel realistic. The interaction between characters stay true to the nature of their relationship, unlike many other stories where supporting characters fawn over MC or universally mistrust MC for no reason.World building is capivating and story pacing is great. Plot twists feel natural and logical. There is a combination of motm, slice of life and an overarching plotline, always leaving you wanting for more at the end of each chapter. There were very few grammar mistakes if any. Sentence structures and diction shows that the author is very well-versed in writing narrations and dialogues.Definitely binge-worthy. Would recommend 11/10.
- Lazy king 123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is very interesting legal fiction.
With the blessing of truth lot of the real world complications and administrative is unnecessary (proof etc…) which makes it easier to focus on AA style of trial.
is it realistic not by any means is it entertaining? 100% yes
in short read it! - EclipsedStarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hands down, this was an amazing read and I hope for more to come. The story and plot are engaging, the characters are memorable and each have notable voices/personalities, and just in general, I’ve found it to be a very entertaining read. Never thought I’d have such a blast reading about fantasy legal battles— but here I am wishing for more.
- Mad healerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Oh boy, I am glad I gave this novel a try. I was expecting some mid-level writing and overall plot, but man, I was mistaken.
I enjoyed reading this novel, and the part that I love the most is the courtroom drama (it lacks whips and strikes to the table sadly). While we have only seen two so far, I enjoyed them a lot; obviously, there are more than that, but I tend to zero in on them. Our MC seems to have inhabited the body of a maid, and she needs to defend herself and her lady in the first chapters; that should give you an idea of how things will develop. While the story follows some tropes of the Otome genre, the author tries to subvert them, and so far it is working. I am glad to say that from the get-go the characters feel developed, and while you can see part of their character background, they develop each time you see them again.
The overall plot of the novel is finding the truth, whether it is why our MC is inhabiting the maid's body or why and how someone committed a crime, and from that you will see whether or not truth will really set you free.
Overall the novel feels fresh, and I consider it a good read.
