Chainbreaker - A LitRPG Adventure
Community Rating
Description
Sett Keidum lived a comfortable life as a blacksmith’s apprentice in a small farming commune on a resource planet for a remote empire. His idyllic life, filled with a loving family and friends, came to an end one fateful day when his world was ripped from his hands by a slave corporation, and forced into a life of indenture and servitude.
Making a daring escape, Sett embarks on a path of liberation and vengeance to take back what is his and crush the most powerful beings in the universe.
With his rage to fuel him and the chains that once bound him now his weapons of punishment, entrenched empires shall fall and the oppressed shall rise before the Chainbreaker.
3 chapters a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
What to expect:
- Progression fantasy LitRPG.
- There will be systems and stats, but not too many numbers to track.
- Organisation building elements and the underworld, as Sett builds a faction that can take down larger empires.
- Xianxia elements, though it’s not a major focus
- A focus on adventure, as Sett travels to fantastical planets and locations, encountering all sorts of people and situations.
- Grimdark. The story does get gruesome and bloody, and the world is bleak. However, this is a story about the enduring light of hope in the face of abject misery
- Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and I try my best to include it.
- Inspired by the Primal Hunter and Defiance of the Fall, though it is a unique story on its own.
- Slow start. I do like to take a few chapters to set up his life but it picks up quickly when it does.

- tobascoasakoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Chainbreaker begins with a familiar premise—a rural blacksmith’s apprentice with big dreams, stuck in a life that hasn’t been particularly kind to him. His daily routine is dull and mundane, which adds a layer of realism to the opening act. As an orphan, his prospects are limited, no matter how hard he works. However, what truly sets Chainbreaker apart is its execution. The story pulls you in and keeps you hooked.
The cast of characters is particularly memorable. They don’t feel flat or two-dimensional, nor do they exist merely to serve the protagonist, Sett. Instead, they feel like real people with their own goals and purposes, which strengthens the worldbuilding. Despite its sci-fi game-like setting, the story maintains an immersive sense of believability. One standout character for me is Sapp, whose awkward and offbeat sense of humor adds an interesting dynamic.
The prose is well-crafted but could benefit from improved flow. Varying sentence lengths more dramatically at times might enhance the reading experience.
Grammar-wise, while generally solid, there are occasional errors that don’t disrupt the flow too much but should still be noted. A final editing pass would easily smooth out these minor issues.
Overall, Chainbreaker is a well-executed story that deserves attention. It’s a compelling read that won’t disappoint. - Lu JiuxinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Chainbreaker is a great story, boasting a lovely cast of characters that immediately draw the attention of readers.
With memorable characters such as the awkward Sapp with a hearty laugh, Thane the proud blacksmith, The brain and brawn Throh twins making the read a page turner.
Story-wise, the chapters are more slice of life and with a down to earth tone, making it very relatable and comforting, especially the emotional moments.
The worldbuilding is also no slouch, making one intrigued about the Krakarian Dynasty, the Great Ancestor and the protagonist's great distaste for imperial army. Plus terms and words that seemed to have crafted for this story suggests a deep and profound level of worldbuilding done by the author.
Prose and grammar wise, the story is lacking and could use improvement. The prose, while descriptive, feels very monotone. The author also has a habit of not using full stops when ending dialogues. While that wouldn't bother me if it was once or twice, it happened enough times for me to expect it and go, "oh, here it happened again".
All in all, Chainbreaker is a great story and with deep worldbuilding and a lovely cast of characters, making it a page turner for anyone who enjoys slice of life. - bcmetcalfRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Heart and effort were poured into this story. The world is expansive. The writer went to great lengths to create cultures, languages, creatures, plots, character dynamics, and emotions.
There is a large cast of characters, but they don't feel flat. There is emotion put into them that makes you feel connected. The story has a complex "feel" to it, not in how it reads, but more in the ingredients that make the story. It has elements of mundane life, which are not boring and help make the characters "real". It has magic and tech that fit together. Wonderful character tropes that aren't distracting, but provide cohesion to the group dynamic of the cast. The story moves quickly but isn't rushed.
There is emotion, action, a system that isn't overwhelming, three-dimensional characters, refreshing darkness, and light-hearted relief.
The story is well written and I don't think I ever got confused or had to reread anything. Grammar had some issues, but not enough to make me not enjoy the story.
If this story looks interesting to you, go ahead and give it a try. Don't let a few grammar mistakes cause you to miss out on a great story. You will appreciate the depth and scope of the world that was created.
