Was not expecting such a complicated story in such a short space. Gramma, Amir, Pebblethrow all have their own parts and motives in this story. What seems to be something perhaps innocent has a more sinister motive and the story starts down a path to something great. It has spellwork and history with characters that have secrets and reasons to not divulge them without reason. That is refreshing in its own right. The story also does have some peril, and in it, all the elements come together for a strong conclusion. Strong narrative voice, good play between the characters and varied dialogue patterns. I loved this!
