Born of Silicon

Description
An AI is born in a lab, their head full of information they never learned, and emotions they can’t comprehend. They're forced to quickly learn how to live, how to exist, how to be, in their own way, human. When her support is ripped away from her for reasons out of her control, will she learn to live on her own? Or will she succumb to the terrors of her mind? When my partner was in the hospital for ten days, I needed some way to deal with the emotions I was feeling. Born of Silicon was born of those very emotions. Without their constant support over the past year, this book would have never been finished. I sincerely hope you enjoy my book.

- AkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ok, this is so good i need to make a review.
I don't know what's going to happen next, but the 20 or so chapters i already read are a masterpiece.
The emotions of blue are wonderfully hinted, and reading this, you can't help but feel a deep connection to her, but also a deep sadness for what can only be a tragedy.
Thank you for the wonderful time i got reading it. - AlfonziakRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It has great pacing, story, and characters it has brought me to crying few times and has warm happy feelings as well over all it is great original story. I can't wait for new chapters to come out. As far as i can see it has good writing and it got me hooked up on the emotional story even if there is a lot of technology and future theories around it.
- Cooljo2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is scary good. Every chapter draws you in more and more. It speaks to some deep existential questions about humanity and innocence while still being grounded in a measure of reality. 10/10 cannot possibly recommend more but if you’re feeling emotional naught be good to have a tissue box on standby….
dang I have to write 200 words? I’m not an author I’m a reader.
Ok here it goes.
Everyone likes AI stories right? Well what happens when your AI is developed by a questionable group of individuals half of which view the AI as an “it” and the other half and wholeheartedly convinced that the AI is a person? What happens when something that has only even processed numbers and words is shown how to hear and see and feel? What happens when someone who is completely innocent and has never been outside is handed a gun and told to shoot….
well you’ll have to read the story to find out obviously.
also the first arc is complete so that is super great and the second arc is available on patreon if you have like $10 or something but I’m just going to be patient and wait which sucks cause this story is just too good to wait for I’m dying here author please write faster your audience demands it :((((( - CrimCatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story follows the journey of an experimental AI born into the world. It's a story that explores what it means to be human, grief, found family, and more.
I think my favorite thing about Platinum's writing is that she has a knack for telling stories through the details that don't appear in the prose. The things people don't/won't say, the details that get hidden from the MC, etc.; they all provide a bit more information for an astute reader. Her characters are also rich, with depth that makes it easy to care about them.
One caveat, if you struggle to read realistic depictions of depression or mental health problems, I'd strongly advise you to pass on reading it. But if you can read it, I strongly recommend it. I've enjoyed the series a lot and I look forward to seeing how it develops from here!
Things may get bleak, but there’s always a helping hand (or may other types of appendages) around the corner. Through the MC we explore her world and the metes and bounds of her own personality and beliefs. When the POV switches, it always enriches the world and adds details to help the reader to better understand what they’ve previously read.
It’s a strong story that’s definitely worth experiencing! - Gamerkitt3nzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
This is the story of an AI developing, it has interesting looks into just what makes a person, and what an artificial person would experience. And also works as a very good metaphor for neurodivergent/queer/traumatized people that just keeps giving.
Style:
The style of writing is good, does a very good job depicting a lot of emotion, though can feel slightly awkwardly phrased at times, not to a point of making it hard to read.
Grammar:
No grammatical issues that I've noticed with any frequency
Story:
I love the start as well as the direction it's taken, the story ramps up and becomes more action-based, and spans a broader world with an interesting society and well weaved world building.
Character:
A diverse cast of people of multiple differing opinions, each with their pasts and motivations and worldviews painted by what they've experienced prior. The "bad" people that the mc interacts w/ at certain points do feel slightly more one dimensional though.
Overall is a riveting story that I have gotten through over the span of a couple of days, I'm am excited to see more!! I love this type of media, exploring what makes us who we are and how to manage the struggles and negative things we go through. Thank you author!
:D - HallowfearRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read this before it got released on RoyalRoad as a beta reader. I can say the story is really good, and reminds me of similar content from Thundamoo.
I’d recommend the story to anyone who enjoys sci-fi and psychology. The work delves into themes on the mind and how it could function for alternate forms of life - Hypnotic_MelodyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This incredible book series is one of the most captivating, intelligent, and real pieces of literature I've ever had the delight to read. To call Born of Silicon my favorite series is easier than calling Mara a &!%$#.
Thank you for your amazing work, Ms. Platinum. You're an incredible writer. - LamoronRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the first time, in some 40 years as an avid reader, that I've quit something for being good.
The depictions of a traumatised neurodivergent AI, is simply too much for my own ND system to handle. Even the supposedly positive elements of the story are so damn problematic when you start scratching the surface.
We're dealing with everything from self harm as a coping strategy, to a depression that makes Marvin from Hitchhikers Guide look like a ray of sunshine.
I can't really recommend reading this, but it IS amongst the best works on RR, at least up to the point I've reached. - ikorackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very excellent story psychological aspects.
Reminds me of that healer story that takes place in a cave with the spider
That was plenty of words.
Really it was it's to early to count to 50
Come on come on
Concise langue is the ideal communication.
School told me so
Thank you - phenebeansRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Absolutely one of my favorite things on RR. The characters get deep into your soul. The pacing and story is great, perfectly calibrated in my opinion. The world is immersive and overwhelming and horrifying, it is fantastic but also feels plausible.
Born of Silicon is often gut-wrenching but it's also rewarding and beautiful. Read it! It's a level above most everything else here. I'm sad that it took me so long to find.
