The first volume of Blood & Fur is now available on Amazon Kindle and Audible (Amazon link here) (Audiobook here)! Volume 2 is also available now (Vol 2 Amazon Link) alongside volume 3 (link) and volume 4 (https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0DYQCBC51)! A new emperor rules each year in Yohuachanca. Only the most delicious of food graces his palate; the realm’s most beautiful women fill his harem; his palace dazzles the mind in its beauty; and four priestesses counsel him in all matters. The life of an emperor is good, luxurious, and short. For at the year’s end, he is sacrificed to the Nightlords under the light of the Scarlet Moon. I am Iztac. A pisspoor orphan and the year’s emperor. A sacrifice bound for the altar. But the vampires have made a mistake this time. For I am a sorcerer, whose soul journeys into the secret underworld to plunder the secret spells of the dead. There, in the darkness, hides the power to drag the Nightlords off their throne. I have a year to find it, or perish for good. I may not be the first emperor, but Iwillbe the last.

- KingofPizzaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only finished the first chapter, but this the most captivating read I've seen on RR so far and I will certainly be reading more. Hell, I may even read all of it.
Vampires and gilded cages ain't what I look for in a story, and yet I sucked this chapter down like a big cup of Mexican hot chocolate.
The author is clearly extremely talented and makes my stories look like they should be lining the bottom of some parakeet's cage. I learned a fair bit about writing just by reading this, and I imagine many others would benefit from taking notes from Void Herald as well. - ChildConsumerServicesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Bit of a silly one but I have in fact read the two chapters that are currently out, I will briefly blab about my thoughts here.
The idea that an empire chooses a new Emporer every year is an interesting one, one that I seem to have heard of before an age ago but I can't remember from where.
The potential for world-building that the blurb alone has set up smells delicious and I am quite excited for this story (as I am with most of Void's stories), but I am especially looking forward to the 'Secret Underworld' briefly mentioned as I am curious as to how it is going to be explored, explained and what kind of 'soul journeys' will our MC taking in them.
Yep, that's pretty much it, I will probably add more as the story progresses.
Well?! what are you still looking at this for? Go read it! - AncientPoisonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As the title says, it’s an excellent story.
It’s clear the author has done heavy research into past historical records of Aztecs, etc.
Would definitely recommend reading this book, especially if you like anti-hero / flawed main characters, those who would sacrifice little for the greater good.
There is excellent character development and how the protagonist changes throughout the story, and how there is always more space for him to grow with different sets of challenges, which are not all physical. - ASecondStoryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Damn. Absolutely fantastic. One of the best stories I've read on this site so far.
I've really enjoyed the plot and execution. The story is compelling and I look forward to seeing how things move forward!
Grammer and language is solid. Nothing that would break immersion.
The more mature scenes took me off guard at first but are written fine and can easily be skipped.
The characters are great. Distinct personalities with wants and desires, always a pleasure to see. The mc is great. I look forward to seeing how they continue to justify their actions. - ElsanorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very detailed setting with clear explanations and powerful emphases to a brilliant but dark world, bringing attention to cultural practices and character developments and interactions in what can be described as beautifully written.
Very minimalistic grammar mistakes and flow of sentences are remarkable. Characters and settings are easy to imagine with the incredible writing and are very compatible with each other and the events that occur in the story. A very soul-rich story
Overall, a remarkable read and one I will definitely keep my eye on. - Face of the KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0i recommend this story. a bit gory and grim dark but attention to detail and the story telling is perfect . the progression of the story and the MC and also the changes are very good. i liked it and i hope you will give it a try. the characters specially the wives are realistic.
the only issue that is really annoying for me personally is the names. they are so annoying both to read and to remember i just have to think ten times to remember new characters . the only reason i know the older ones is repetition and the simple picture of the word order burned in my eyes . seriously how do you pronounce them... i pity the guy who is going to make this an audio book . the horrors he must feel. he going to shudder for years after doing this work . but it is genuine names and well new .some times you get tired of all the Greek or gothic type names they use for fantasy so this whole tribal naming sense is kinda weird. - Fluffy-GoblinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a rare gem here on Royal Road. It has one of the most unique settings and worldbuilding, due to being placed in an alternative magical Aztec empire. So alrerady, it's very different from most other fantasy stories, which are mostly placed in alternative versions of Western Europe or East Asia. The plot and characters are also superb (without spoiling anything), as are the writing and worldbuilding. This is perfect execution with a unique setting as well as a unique plot. I highly recommend giving this one a try
- HansworthRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve been following this story since the beginning and have been avoiding writing a review just so I can be sure of the claim I made in the title. After more than a year, I am 100% sure, no hyperbole that this is the best story on this site by a large margin. I thought VoidHerald’s peak was going to be The Perfect Run which is also one of the best stories on this site. This story completely proved me wrong.
If you want to read about a morally grey (bordering on black) and bloodstained rebellion against overwhelming odds then I implore you to start giving this a try immediately. About the MC’s morality scale, Iztac is basically going full Waltuh as the story keeps progressing. The Mesoamerican setting is also a rare sight and fits perfectly with the horror and violent vibe of the story. The plot and characters are always keeping you on your toes. Prose is top quality professional level as you would expect from a Voidy book.
Lastly, I would commend this book on featuring a harem prominently while also somehow not feeling like most HaremLit stories at the same time. It’s not something you see often. - Hunter MythosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Can I be a fan for this one? Is that okay? I'm serious here, because Void Herald was the reason I got into progression fantasy, power fantasy, LitRPG, and all of that stuff. Vainquere the Dragon remains the darling story that brought me into this world. And in an age where we have super ginomous series that go on forever with no end at sight, we can trust Void Herald to know what he's doing, do his research, and see a story to its end.
That's absolutely incredible. The moment I saw this title-- and I saw Void Herald's name-- I knew I was in good hands. I knew this is going to be something unique. And I knew it's going to have an ending that brings it all together.
So what is this strange thing called Blood & Fur? It's combination of Central American mythology, God-King vampires, and a bunch of power fantasy and absolutely metal ideas that deserve to be on a rock album. Dude, the moment I started reading this thing, I could already feel the heavy research that was conducted to create this piece of art. It's sharp. It knows what it's saying. There's plenty of unfamiliar phrases that's going to have me looking it up on Google, and that makes it refreshing. It feels like we're actually getting some novel and new and unfamiliar and fantastic.
We follow an MC whose an outcast among his people. It's clear how that's affected him, making him jaded and angry and prideful. The MC has serious cojones on him when he refuses to go along with the sham that's being displayed in front of him, forcing him to become something he doesn't want to. He immediately stands his ground against the powers that be-- which was pretty badass-- although, it didn't workout for him. And I love how he consistently tries to rebel even if it seems pointless. But in his rebellion, there's power, even in the face of death, we can see our MC rise again and continue his journey in freeing himself from his shackles and defeating his overlords.
Style is sharp, to the point, and stacks together short and mil - LucasklhRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0We are introduced to an orphan boy considered to be cursed because of some misinterpreted ancient knowledge, he is unwanted and unloved by everyone excluding his best friend and her father. The country is governed by tirants false goddesses who demand blood sacrifices from the citizens and every year they sacrifice the emperor in a ritual. The protagonist is chosen to be the new emperor and has to plot a way to escape the jaws of the goddesses.
Reading this novel I was amazed by the unique and intriguing style and story. The author is making a beautiful job in writing about the revenge of a wronged boy, the world is filled with wonderfully written characters, that feel very much alive and make for a intriguing plot. There is progress in every conversation and they help build a world that promises to be filled with power dynamics and treachery, as you would expect of a empire.
Mithology:
The world is based on the beautiful Aztec mithology which is a very revigorating thing to read, considering that I only ever read about Greek, Nordic and Egyptian mithology. I cannot stress more the importance to study about this religion, they have a very beautiful story that is very well introduced in this novel.
