Description

Orphaned and raised in a community of demi humans in a society where they are treated as beasts, Ambrose dreamed of becoming an adventurer. She wanted to grow, and to send back money to her community so that they could prosper. On her 18th birthday, she is pulled from the village by a group of humans who are going to unlock her class, as is the way for humanity and other humanoid species. Ambrose awakens to the Mystic Bestiary Class, rather than a normal class and her life starts to get out of hand. Mystic Bestiary is an M rank class, the likes of which there are only 9 on the continent, making her one of the potentially most powerful people on the planet so long as she can survive and make it out of school and into the ranks of adventurers. The rarity of her class alone gets her into trouble, but when the powers of her class are found out, her class and rank come into question. Ambrose is not simply given stats and some skills. She is given the ability to shift into, and mix, the Demi-human races, taking on their qualities and abilities rather than taking up class skills. With demibeasts being seen as inferior to the human species in her school and society, she is forced to come into contact with her fellow students as well as the harsh specieist beliefs of the race of people that believe that she owes them her allegiance over the people who raised her.

I could not put this one down and quickly added to favorites. Sometimes I wonder though if stat sheets could be placed under spoiler tab option so that the audio could bypass. Story is pretty good, and the characters are likable. The ones meant to be at least.
Some minor complaints though. I dont like how often the MC is sexualized. There are other ways to be discriminated against other than "big titty cow slut". Like the no class or level thing or comparing them to their unsentient feral counterparts(if those exist) and seeing them as uncivilized.
The presence of half orcs being an accepted group also confuses me on the logic of beastkin discrimination. Unless I am seriously overestimating how orcish a half orc is I feel like they should be in the same group of not humanoid enough. Perhaps having classes is the big factor? Idk.
despite being in a school I dont think the MC has participated in a single class. Maybe things are going to chill soon but so far the setting being in a school hasn't mattered a whole lot. I hope she gets to interact with more other students soon.
I also dont like how some fights devolve into flyswatting at the end. The mc gets in a fight, is actually struggling and swapping forms and tactics, and then she uses a newly unlocked form and annihilates her opponent with little to no resistance. It feels kinda cheap but its still badass and cool so I'll give it a pass.
Overall well written and entertaining to read. Looking forward to more.

I'm enjoying this a fair bit, the characters are interesting and well written, the various forms are well described and have their own personality, looking forward to lore chapters
Don't mind the power scaling being the way it is either, I'm sure we are going to see just how powerful a few other characters are!

Frankly just a really good read. I don’t usually leave actual reviews so  actually wanting to put it into words should say something. The interplay between species is great and frankly the only think I think I would say I want to see more of, though I get the feeling that it will happen more as the MC interacts with more people. Great work, keep it up! Also interested to see how the lore romantic relationship stuff develops ;)

Do not let the cover fool you, this story is bloody and brutally awesome fights! That being said, this story have many issues with directions I cannot ignore up to chapter 20, which can use a rewrite.
Front and center, the level system and the power scaling contain too many high-rankings populating earlier parts of the story, and there are clearly two distinct stories underneath it all that is diametrically contradicting each other.
Style: This is a strong one - the 1st person POV narrative are excellent and the POV switching in some battles are warranted, but the author seems to want to portray the battles with too much clarity I hope they plays around with ambiguity and unreliable POV down the line. Combat, dialogue, and details are all great and well-thought out for each scenarios. Some of the POV switch during battles are handles very well, far more than I would like since I usually prefer one POV fights, but they convinced me it can be done well. Others are less so.
Story: As the story progresses, my big issue is how the story splits itself into two distinct stories, both opposing each other:
    1. First is a tale of a up-and-coming adventurer fighting back prejudice to support herself and her community, where the fights are harsh and demands innovation and quick thinking. Enemies are a real threat and constantly forces Ambrose and her allies on the back foot, creating amazing scenarios.
    2. Second is a smutty power fantasy where Ambrose whips out new power like no tomorrow and humiliating heads of state royalties, where she pummels super high rankers, whom populated much of the beginning of the story I might add.
Power trainings and tactical testings are non-existent save for in the middle of combat, and the academic setting are under-utilized. Worse, we rarely get mentions of Ambrose's Swallowtale Beast Commune after the initial chapters, which we needed since the intro was not long enough to feel strong attachment to it. Levels and class are played fast a

This starts as an interesting story, but I began to lose interest around chapter 17 and just started skimming through until chapter 20. The story is fine, and the world's background is a common enough thing; using anthropomorphs as the “other and lesser” is fine. However, I am failing to understand why other human adjacent species, such as elves, gnomes, half-orcs, etc., are also not classified under this othering as well.
I just constantly fail to understand Ambrose’s motivations.
Since she has this powerful “M” rated class, why doesn’t she use that as leverage against the prince to have him aid the beastfolk? Is she so prideful and upset that she was taken from home that she failed to use her position as a piece between the kingdom and empire to gain greater protection for her people? Even if she wasn’t being fought over by two nations, she should be trying to use her position as leverage. It's like she has this idea that she will save her town all on her own by being an adventurer when there are much better ways to help the beastfolk as a whole, not just the one town.
Why does she insist on walking around as a beastfolk when she knows they are hated, and then get angry at the negative reactions? This is a choice she made, choosing to be a human or beastfolk. And just one person beating up bigots on the streets isn’t going to change anything. I understand that she sees Miss Shatterhorn as a mother, but that isn’t a valid reason to put yourself in a hostile environment for no clear reason when a much safer way exists. She even switched back to human during one of these confrontations.
Why is she so infatuated with the murderer? She keeps refusing to fight her or even stop her as she kills with abandon in the city. Is this a natural state of the beastfolk, such as a subconscious urge to aid the manticore?
There are other plot issues I have.
Can anyone at anytime see your rank and class skill? Are there no limits or protections? It seems like this is something you ha

I came here for catgirl yuri, not for the main character turning into a cowgirl and getting milked multiple times with full details.
The “love interest” is slightly horrifying and very concerning.
There’s a significant amount of sexism and assault that is simply not addressed.
For all these reasons, I do not recommend this novel. Which is a shame, because some of the characters are well written.
