The story has only just started but enjoying it so far, it seems there's about 15ish years before Avatar the last Airbender starts and our main character is a powerful Water Bender with something extra to make it interesting. Looking forward to what that power is, is it energy bending or some kind of blood energy bending, who know yet. The descriptions have been solid and I'm looking forward with what's to come.

As a massive fan of The Last Airbender, I decided to read the Guardian of the Sea for a review-swap expecting a decent story with an appreciable amount of fan service. I am nearly 10 chapters in and it has already proven itself far greater than that. The main plot follows a fan of ATLA who is reincarnated into the body of a 4-year-old kid, Lee, in the Northern Water Tribe. There, he trains under Master Pakku (yes, that Pakku) to become a master waterbender. Despite the initial premise giving the impression of a self-insert power fantasy, the narrative is far more interesting in telling a story that is honestly closer in tone and style to something like Mushoku Tensei (with, to its credit, the glaring exception of the mc not being a massive pervert). A lot of the action of the story revolves around Lee's everyday life as he trains under Pakku and learns other essential skills and knowledge under Mona. The most striking part of the story is it's ability to get you invested in the daily routine of these characters. Crucially, they do not feel like placeholders to help the mc progress the plot. No, they feel like real people with their own lives and goals and motivations. The story has only just begun and I'm already very invested in the various character dynamics and look forward to seeing how they'll pay off in the future.Stylistically, it's a little plain. There's little to no flourishes to the prose which occasionally make it a bit dull to read but at the same time, everything is pristine and it never gets in the way of the plot. While the characters are largely enjoyable, Lee himself is something of a weak link. He displays very little personality or agency which limits the potential of his dynamics with these other larger-than-life characters. He has little to no flaws, his personality is rather milquetoast, and his goal and motivation are not the most emotionally compelling. He's a serviceable main character for sure but I can't help but feel that he could be so mu

Character interactions are satisfying to read. You gave more depth to Pakku. Mc's interactions with Mona causes diabetes 😀😀. And children and otter-penguin moments were funny and cute.Chi and water bending theories are interesting. I like that part in fantasy novels, when fantasy has some framework. So training scenes were enjoyable to read for me. If you expand upon chi and spirit world/spirituality I'll be a happy man but I'm not sure about others 😜😜.You left a mystery yet unresolved. Looking forward to it.Hmmm, what else can I say. I haven't found anything jarring or disturbing for now.I haven't paid attention to beginning that much, I'm not fond of isekai beginnings, I liked it was not streched out too much.
