- AuntieGRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don’t usually write reviews, but this story is just so much fun I needed to let others know. It does start a bit slow while MC figures out his class, but then the story really takes off and makes you want to know what happens next. Really, the best story I have read in months, and I read all day every day (retired). Love the cat and the elemental, they are great additions to the story.
- EverlyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First off, this book makes me SO HUNGRY.
Anyway. This book is what happens when you get a teenager who spent his life in a brainwashing school and accidentally breaks out of the system, only to find the world is a lot crueler than he'd ever been led to believe. Thankfully, there ARE still good people and he makes some wonderful friends along the way. Liane is a treasure.
It's funny, it's heartwarming, it deals with the darkness inside humanity and a world that can be both cruel and kind. All while experimenting in the kitchen, usually of the makeshift variety.
It's incredibly well written, I basically couldn't put it down after I started. Highly recommend. - Jayson BenedictRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I devoured this full story in just a day and I enjoyed every minute of it. I feel like the quality of a lit rpg story is found in how the protagonists “special ability” affects them and the world around them. I thought this one was really well done. All his capabilities are outward focused and he really is just a chef with magic abilities. I feel like the supporting cast of characters are really well written and bring something unique to the interactions they have with the protagonist.
I feel like the pacing was done really well. Even though the class that he received wasn’t what he wanted he adapted and within a few chapters he was able to start making strides on making the most of his new life with the limitations he has. Sometimes it feels like the protagonist is very nieve but then I remember that he is a littoral child, 15 years old, and has been indoctrinated by what seems to be a death cult since he was 5. With that in mind the characters are fun, the current arc has made me laugh multiple times out loud and just made me very happy. I’m really enjoying the content, please keep up the good work! - KirillskiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an amazing story, and I'm excited to see more chapters. I've read up to Chapter 177; this is indeed worth the read. Just as Trevor has made amazing dishes and meals, the author has cooked with this book. Give it a read, and you won't be disappointed. The characters, backgrounds, and story have incredible detail to help you visualize the world and get you hooked.
- Soph5898Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am absolutely adoring reading this story. The mc and supporting characters are engaging and well thought out, with the mc having realistic and relatable responses to situations when taking into account his upbringing. You are rooting for the mc and i personally cant wait to read where his journey takes him. He is just such a likable character. The story flows seamlessly and you can see the clear growth and progression of the mc which I think has been done optimally. Obviously cooking is a major part of this story and i must say i am enthralled. Ive not read a cooking litrpg before and this story has produced a new fan. The world building is good and clearly helps in moving the story along. The author has managed to not only keep you engaged with the mc's progression but the glimpses given of a certain characters produce a narrative that also contributes to the overall story progression. Adding a depth to the story of intiguing possibilties. The writing is fluid and grammar good. Overall a well crafted, very delightful and cozy read which I would encourage others to experience. A massive well done to the author as this is a gem of a read.
- mafmafyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a new genre to me, but so far I've been hooked, despite the format that was unknown to me.
Watching the main character progress is entertaining, chapter after chapter.
Now to finish all the chapters to see how it ends, and hopefuly want to read more!
I also love the cover art! - Mimibdy2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This slice of life is such an enjoyable read, I put down my long time reads to catch up! Join Trevor on an adventure from a nobody to hobnobbing with the King, meeting with dragons and phoenix and a cat that follows him like a shadow. Meet the friends he encounters along the way. And, of course, so much food!
Highly recommended. - MivRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An amazing story. It's well written and feels complete. MC is very blank, but not stupid. Just naive. Food feels realistic as if based on real recipes.
Jeg forstår ikke behovet for så mange ord. Det er en fantastisk og yderst velskrevet historie. Hvad andet er nødvendigt at sige om den. - Lane GoldenwoodRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's very cute with big found family vibes. It's got good humor, and events happen, so it doesn't slow down even as it sticks to its core premise. I like the action when it happens and there isn't too much that it makes me bored of the idea of fighting monsters, then eating them. I think by the end of the first book or so the author really found his stride.
It really is as advertised, a good slice of life that is about cooking, adventuring, and a very good cat. I thoroughly enjoyed everything.
The main character's skills build together to become more than just x+1, and it really feels like the author put real effort into the class and Trevor's progression. When he got the chance at new skills, there also wasn't too long spent agonizing over them, and sometimes there were two good choices and actually did have to think on which one to choose.
And while I did grow to love every moment of the story, the beginning was sonething you had to get through. It took me a few attempts to get going, but once he sets out with the caravan, I had a hard time stopping reading. I would be really interested to see if the author went back to reorganize the opening chapters now that he's seemed to have figured Trevor and the world out.
And while I appreciated not having the system explained and everything really staying in character, I also wouldn't say this is a beginning LitRPG, it relies on the reader's foreknowledge of rpg systems, stats, rpg fantasy settings and such. That said, it isn't bland, an inn is an inn, a city a city, and if a place needs to be explained it gets explained; which is nice in a genre like LitRPG where I don't need too many details about something outside the MC's interest. I really enjoyed the pace and flavor of descriptions, but I noticed that I might have been lost had I not already known what things were, especially with the world built around a system.
Trevor also stays his age, he is a teenager, he doesn't somehow know things that it takes experience to - puregarnetRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This was a fun and chill read. I liked reading about all the food and the adventuring through new lands while meeting new people. I like our mc too! He’s still a bit too naive atm but am hoping he will learn more and grow eventually. At the end of book 3, I’m still waiting to see what the goal and/or direction of the story is going to take as it’s a bit of the mc wanting to do something in the short term and events happening as a result of his powers coming back to affect him which kinda made him be 60-70% reacting most of the story. I feel like his goal isn’t that big or solid yet as he had been thrown surprise over surprise since chapter 1. And he’s also pretty young so he doesn’t really know what he wants yet. Which is the a big reason I didn’t drop the story from the mc being too passive. He has a solid reason to be. He does seem to be growing to really like cooking and his class now so hopefully, we will get him reflecting more and solidifying what he wants out of life. But now, we have an interesting time in the calital woth a new business venture which will help him level up more in the future. And a bit more unveiling of the background threads of fate or somthing. So far, the author said they had 7 books worth of oulines for the story so I am looking forward to where it will go.
