I want to start off this review by saying I have read this work twice to ensure that all criticisms reflect the details and plot points for this review. I wish to also point out that a friend of mine made this work, but for the sake of this review, all analysis and dissections will be as fair and impartial to all parties (AKA me, the author, and readers). This is to ensure that the judgement made reflects the analysis done upon the first and second readings. All spoilers will be marked so as to not dissuade potential readers from this story.
Rather than outright giving my thoughts on the whole story first, I feel it is more appropriate to summarize the first two chapters as they establish the plot and are the core structure of this story’s interesting premise in consideration of its title “Anachronistic Cyborgs”, which is fitting for the story’s uniqueness.
The first chapter is split between three cyborgs fighting in an arena in the aftermath of a tournament. This chapter takes place in a dystopian future where humans of pure flesh are rare, and a sign of wealth in a polluted world. Scavs frequent the arena just to scavenge for valuable, cybernetic equipment to be sold off to the black market.
By order of appearance, No’dea is the overseer of the arena and the one responsible for keeping scavs out from stealing loot from the corpses of the deceased combatants (to limited degrees of success). She also is most level-headed, and the most serious of the bunch, serving as the leader of the trio (unofficially). Brutus is possibly my personal favorite out of the trio. He’s the strongest of the three, the least intelligent (having a very unique character voice), but also the most humble and honest of the three. He can be considered the tank/fighter of the three owing to his immense size and physical prowess. Everytime I read his
