- Art_UnfallenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of my all time favorite RR reads, compelling main character, well built story, and a handsome author. Elra again shows his linguistic genius proving his magic with the pen and leaving me in awe. Please if you like fantasy and you like elves read this wonderful and wholesome story.
- ND_JackSparrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've really enjoyed this series so far and am excited to see what comes next.As a brief overview, this story covers the life of a teacher who gets thrust into a Lit-RPG world of monsters, systems, and classes, where he dedicates himself to helping care for an orphanage.Add some lurking threats and a snarky system that isn't afraid to poke fun at him, and you're bound to have a good time.Style:Consistently in the first person perspective following our MCRob(ertClarke). A decent mix of introspection, dialogue, and action.Story:The setting makes sense within the established rules of the world, including the effect those rules have on the characters and politicians. The plot is not overly complicated but still makes for a fun read with realistic threats and concerns that must be faced. From corrupt politicians to finding enough food to feed the orphans and to the monsters he fought outside the walls, there are a lot of threats on Rob's plate. The story so far is striking a good balance between dealing with threats and emergencies as best as he can as well as giving the MC a chance to work with and teach the students at the orphanage.Grammar:There generally are some spelling or grammatical mistakes when the chapters first go up, but they never detract much from the readability of the story. Furthermore, the author openly welcomes editing suggestions in the comments and is generally quick to fix any mistakes.(The fact that they aren't even a native English speaker makes it even more impressive; I've seen some native writers make even more mistakes!)Character:Our main character has well-established character motivations for their actions, such as why they want to help the orphanage so badly. The MC sometimes makes decisions that seem foolhardy, but nobody's perfect and it is easy enough to see how he came to those decisions. As the chapters progress we are starting to see the rest of the characters be fleshed out as well through Rob's discussions with them and observations of
- Dads Bedtime StoriesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As an Isekai writer myself I always enjoy reading what others write about a world we fall into, wake up in, or are reborn in.
I like the early development of the MC as he has to choose between their old life or pursuing something we all have dreamed of at one point in our life. Magic and a new world. The writing is good and the direction it is heading is great! Looking forward to reading the story as time allows for it. - Dracansi_tufaniluxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thos has been a excellent story so far and I am greatly enjoying it. Everything in this story so far has added more questions to just what is going on. The only downside is that I'm closer to chapter 100 than 1 and I still have so many questions. This is going to be a long story and I am thrilled to see where it goes from here.
- Krakilin24Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Probably tied with perfect run as my favorite story one Royal road. It is just great. good pacing, no cardboard characters, good romance, likeable MC. It is just a fantastic slice of life so far. Pacing may be a bit slow but with the characters being fleshed out its not a bad thing. It just gives you more time with them. The romance worked very nicely. It has its moments of being a pg-13esque romance but it never feels too kiddy and has hilarious moments
Like the photograph in the bath
but always feels sincere
Just a super likeable story. I highly recommend it. - ElaraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are looking for a feel-good slice of Life LitRPG with enough tension to keep the story interesting, then "An Otherworldly Scholar" might be just what you are looking for.
The story is nicely paced and has a decent mix of action, intrigue, character-building, and children acting cute. The author doesn't make many mistakes and the story never strays far from its roots. It knows what it is and plays to its strength all throughout.
At its core, It's a story about a man stranded in a foreign world who tries to make the best of what he has while not giving up on his values.
Is it perfect? No. Is it worth the read? Absolutely!
All in all, I enjoyed myself immensely! - Ezekiel_ChabarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Found this and thought meh I am going to give it a try. Probably wont like it. I was so wrong. This is really well written. The plot progresses fairly slowly but keeps moving along. I would almost call it cozy but it is definitely progress fiction. Editing is pretty good. I occasionally see the wrong preposition or pronoun like the author is maybe fluent in English but not native. Could just be typos.
- FurioRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has been a pleasant surprise . The protagonist can use his skills as a teacher as one of the main means to level up, and this is quite original. A consequence of this fact is that, since the teaching is intrinsically interactive, the personalities of the secondary characters is depicted with much more care than in most stories.
The world building and the magic system are good and detailed, the pace of the story is right.
The romantic subplot is functional to the story but perhaps not the best part of the novel. Another reviewer already pointed out that meeting the love of your life (a beautiful elf!) immediately after arriving in a new world is just too obvious. I know that some tropes are so classical that the authors use them as a convention but I continue to hope to find someone that uses a more elaborate solution.
Overall the story was really pleasant to read so I give 5 stars despite some small defects. - HaidynreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Im really enjoying this. It's refreshing to see a story with a system where the main character isn't so murder hungry. Holst totally deserves the anger and I dont get the problem with him turning down an offer that hurts someone he's totally into. I like the way the story is headed and excited to read more.
- OptykallRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a top tier novel, imo. Rob is just perfect, pacing and characters are fantastic, no small amount of intrigue to go with all the new to learn. Different take on your regular isekai and it absolutely wins at it. This will not let you down I promise, story has emotional depth and impact you aren't ready for.
