Description
The Greatest Hero who ever lived tells his story. But it didn’t happen the way the bards sing. Kyvaine is no paragon. He’s a coward, a liar, a greedy scoundrel with an instinct for survival and an allergy to honesty. And yet—through an endless chain of misunderstandings, dumb luck, and sheer accidents—he’s become the most celebrated Hero in history. Watch as he “slays” magical beasts (mostly by running away), “outsmarts” furious wizards (while barely understanding what’s happening), and “conquers” land (by being in the wrong place at the right time). Everyone thinks he’s a genius. He knows he’s just scrambling to survive. A tale of black comedy, misadventure, and accidental glory—told in Kyvaine’s own voice. "Every legend starts with a lie." What to expect: First-person narration • Black comedy • Heavy action • Low-power fantasy • A Hero who is anything but Book 1 Complete! Schedule:Every Thursday

- jenjen12341234Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sense of humour is top notch.
Writing is really good, minor grammatical errors and spelling mistakes but nothing too egregious.
Great use of words.
MC is what it says on the cover but far less cowardly than I had worried, which is good.
Looking forward to how the story progresses! - Lodf2222Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I hated this main character initially, but I kept going for a bit because I sensed a good story. He grew on me like the little fake confident brat he is. I feel the level of how other perceive him and I see it too. Lovely fantasy world with good pace of world building that doesn’t feel like “humm this should have been mentioned sooner. Enjoy folks!
- N. C. McEwanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The main character is funny in his narration. The action scenes are solid. The story-telling is clever in how it contrasts real events with the hyperbolic legend that follows. Also, the cast of characters are believable in their archetypes. I'm only mid-way through so far but am thoroughly enjoying it. The pacing is good too.
- Pen_KnightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Highly highly recommended for enjoyers of gritty and tough adventures like war hammer 40k enjoyers.
People who like ADVENTURE, hard earned power, actual fake crazy and cunning wizards.
People who like a good story pretending to be plain.
People who loves an unreliable mc retelling the story with sometimes another commentator.
People who loves a lowkey hidden gem.
Or people who like a realistic D n D adventurer with bullsh*t quests.
...
Lucky and cowardly mc.
Most Mc starts from the other side of the spectum, but this Mc starts off lowkey on a side villian arc.
Great story, it's really nice and should get more attention.
The story evolves in an interesting low power fantasy way with the Mc really running away from everything at the start to becoming somewhat capable.
He literally becomes "him" and deals with crap that most other MC on RR would need a timeloop and like 100+ chapters to deal
That said the style is a lil off on the title ngl. Makes it sound generic and likely have put off a lot of potential reader, but it fits the Mc's self hatred.
I do highly recommend it for people who want a realistic MC that has no crazy clutches. - constantineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0(Sorry for my bad english) A great read. For those who like Warhammer 40k, and a bit of lightheartead or comic story. It has some great feels like Ciapas Cain in the 40k lore. A pretty solid read actually. If you are lokking a somber or dramatic series to read, look elsewhere.
- FreefallerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story reminds me a lot of the Ciaphas Cain novels, but in a fantasy world and without the general grim darkness of the 41st millennium. The style in which the story is told is funny, the main character is indeed an asshole, but not so much of an asshole to be unlikable, and the other characters so far have been quite enjoyable.
- GRIMARYHILLSRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Everyone must have heard about this old series, it’s about a coward dog who is scared of literally everything trying to protect his family from cosmic horrors and dangerous calamities, What if Courage was Human, What if He lived in a Medieval world, What if he was a Selfish Scum, we get Kyvaine.
This is hilarious tale of Kyvaine who is a shameless, cowardly, selfish, spoiled but intelligent and even truly heroic despite what he credits himself. The adventures of Kyvaine is journal of the legendary hero’s real story from his teenage when he was a borderline scummy bastard who was arrogant spoiled brat who just wanted to drink, whore and enjoy life. But his life turns when he is caught up in a series of events that turn his turn his life upside down and he goes from scummy scum to heroic scum, the mc is straight up unbearable as he says in the start. He is a antihero who cares for himself more than anything, his selfishness might be enough to make him a disciple of Fang Yuan in the future yet stupidly he becomes the hero he never wanted and the world deserved. As cowardly and scummy as this character seems, he is intelligent and is actually not as coward as he tells himself to be as here he is actually talented lazy guy and he is capable to play hero, this is a fun ride to watch this unique character explores this world from a way we never see.
I am not saying he is not trash, but he can get the job done, the reason why I referred him to courage is that Courage is a coward dog but he is ready to fight for what he wants to protect that’s TRUE COURAGE as he is ready to stand in the face of terror, being courageous is not about being fearless, its about being able to face one’s fears and stand. Kyvaine is an embodiment of this concept, he ready to face his fears while wanting run from them, showing the duality of humanity and the morally grey world. He is just normal human with his flaws as we need to give him some credit for being able to do things that most cowards nev - IrjaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well, MC is like Ciaphas Cain. Not Ciaphas Cain tho, but it's a similar trope, I think.
When he's scared, which is often, he grinned like a maniac, thus people think he's brave.
During battle, his decision/action accidentally brought strategic local victory
And he's darned lucky. And people with such luck do exist. Cue Adrian de Wiart.
He's above average in fighting and his stats is increasing with every battle n event he survived.
Author is also creative in using this kind of trope to deliver entertaining story.
Fun read. - KoboldPatrolRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5(as of chapter 20)The story of a famous (not yet, we're just starting) hero, except it was all luck, misunderstandings and exaggerated retellings. In truth, Kyvaine is a pampered coward who always runs away into the wrong direction. This truth is told here, by himself. And wow, do the famous stories err...Kyvaine's story is very funny, usually at his expense. The narration is good, and even though he is an unreliable narrator it feels reliable. Word choice and descriptions are in that sweet spot where it is enough to understand everything but not distracting. I can't say much about the storyline or world building yet, but at least it's not bad. Pacing is fine so far. Some small typos or grammar errors, nothing jarring though.Characters: Kyvaine has all the pathetic personality traits that you suspect and that are needed for the story's premise. Some of them are due to his family background, some are due to his youth, some are just what nature dealt him. On the other hand, he has some redeeming qualities and seems to be not as cowardly as he tells us. The other characters so far are slightly exaggerated and sometimes bordering on cliché, but only bordering. All in all, this story is starting out fine and I'm looking forward to Kyvaine getting tormented some more.
- TheherbertRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5What a great read. It is really entertaining I like that the MC chimes in with his thoughts as he writes his book.
Additionally there are many elements that have not been revealed yet so the story is interesting.
Quite like it well done author reminds me of the flashman series
