Strong exposition that establishes the way forward to the story similar to Star Wars. Similarly to how that was jarring in a movie to generate intrigue, the first person narrative that is likely to change in the next chapter drives intrigue while setting the scene.
The base story in the synopsis additional compounds to pique interest. While there are some difficult tropes to pull off in the promised story based off the synopsis, the SciFi setting lends for some very interesting potential in their execution.
Small grammar issues notwithstanding I am feeling pretty good about this start.
