Description
Hey-Ho, I'm everyone's favorite HFY tractorman trying out this website. Accidentally Adopted was my first serious entry into Science Fiction, and follows the story of the a xenos family living aboard their ship, and Greg George, a man severely overqualified for the position he finds himself in through no fault of his own. I'll be posting it here for your enjoyment, and to test out the website.

- BadCatRobotRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So many funny in-jokes. And sad stuff for a reason. And truly alien cultures that can be understood. Fun! It isn't easy to do that, but I enjoy stories that do. Also the various viewpoint diaries are great. It is also nice to see a HFY story that doesn't have the various aliens *completely* incompetent at combat, just ... not as good as a pissed-off Marine that had to survive a forced bath given by Alien Mommy No Objections Allowed.
- BiovoreBarrageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read this story when it was first being published on Reddit and dropped it on the sole reason that Reddit (contrary to popular belief) is not a great place to read novels. If you like HFY you’ll like this, and if you don’t know what HFY is, this is an excellent introduction to the sub-genre.
- Book-WyrmRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As someone who has devoured almost every major and minor story on the HFY subreddit in the last 5 years, you can trust me when I say that this is my favourite story from there by far. Hell this is in my top 5 favourite books of all time and I have nothing but praise for this story. If I hadn't literally just finished my latest read through on reddit I would be eating this shit up. I'm so glad the author decided to post it here too, now I don't have to suffer through the shitty reddit chapter "system" just to re-read it. I have loved Accidentally Adopted since the first chapter dropped years ago and I love it just as much now.
- DrspethRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Originally read this on Reddit. Saw it was getting put on here two years ago then it stopped. I was sad. But !! I saw it was getting posted on here again and I'm so happy. I love this story, have re read it multiple times, and can't wait to reread it on here. Thank you TractorMan, your writing is chicken soup for my soul
- IForgetWorldsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0To be fair I am coming here from Reddit where I have already read this series. If you enjoy military powerhouses and alien drama this series is for you. Honestly came here looking to see if there were any other stories by this author published here as well. No such luck. Excellent author and story!
- James McGettrickRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Dude I friggin love this story. For all that is good and holy finish this please! I love that space jarheads still eat crayons. Classic. All so, does the MC have a bio-chip with hyper comm capabilities in his head or did I misunderstand something? How did his unit command and doctor get his logs? Any way please carry on I seem to be chuckling often. Again awesome story.
- KharkhazadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just as good reading for the second time! I do hope the rest of the sneakyverse will follow suit in migrating over from reddit!
Great use of different POV's to tell the story, pacing is good with some slice of life between major plot beats.
Character names can get a little confusing due to similarity e.g. Yaevdrill/Yormdrill, but I didn't find that it took away from the story. - Kirt77Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read a bit of this when it was first posted off site. I'm glad to see it here where I can finish it.
The characters are very well done and engaging. The action scenes are not over the top , with plenty of humor and overall a very good story. - Pinaz993Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Having read this entire saga on Reddit before... certain events, I can safely say that anyone who follows this story to the end is in for delightful humor, touching moments, adorable antics, and a great deal of wonderful storytelling. It is very much in media res, being told in journal entries by several characters, with only a few select moments being told from a third person perspective.
Since the entire tale has already been written, it's unlikely that our dear TractorMan is going to take a long time to post the entire thing. Even if he only released one chapter a week, though, it is well worth the wait. He didn't get to the top of r/HFY with just about every chapter for nothing.
Cast (minor spoilers for the first few chapters)
Greg, our human for this tale, is quite the accomplished hero, though he'd turn the air blue if he heard me say that. A hardened soldier, but smart enough to be vulnerable to those he loves.
Trandy is an adolescent alien, trying to find the stars to guide her though a dangerous and wonderful universe. Compassionate to a fault, she isn't afraid to speak up for what she believes in.
Yormdrill is an experienced captain, and a father anyone would be glad to have, even if he can be a little dense at times. His past has shaped him into a fine example of his people. Also, robots.
And, of course, there's Yoivdrill. What a delight! Not much I can say about him without major spoilers, so you'll just to trust me on that one.
Follow this author closely, folks. He's going places. Probably on a tractor.
PS: TractorMan, my offer still stands. Thanks for giving RR a chance. - RedPineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Edit: Chapter 3 onwards has paragraph spacing.
As of writing this review, the author, who is new to rr, has a formatting error. I suspect it will get fixed eventually, but until then, don't let the paragraph spacing fool you.
This is fine quality. Relatable, charming, has personality, and balances serious themes with a can do attitude and irreverent memery.
The author claims this is one of their earliest stories, which bodes well for future stories posted by this author if it's already this enjoyable.
