Description

When a higher-dimensional entity decides to cast you in a leading role for a story, who can really say no? Though, it would be helpful if they provided a script (everyone else has one, it isn't quite fair). And of course re-shoots are a persistent pain to deal with. What do you mean the battles won't be CGI?

The Narrator, having completed his telling of The Stanley Parable, decides to whisk away a "Freshly Available" mortal from Earth and have him play the role of his new Stanley's starter Pokemon. Things do not go as planned, and the two quickly find themselves trying to put together a new plan to salvage the story.

12/30/2024: Reworked the first 14 chapters to implement grammar fixes, and remove most of the unintended horror elements.

GRAMMAR IS AN EASY 10/0 - OR A 5/5 - FOR ME, SINCE THE ODDITIES WITH THE FORMATTING ARE EASILY EXPLAINED WITH THE TWO DIFFERENT NARRATORS HERE!!! IT'S AWESOME AND BREAKS THE FOURTH WALL IN A VERY SATISFYING WAY, WHICH IS SURPRISING FROM JUST GRAMMAR ALONE!
THEN THERE'S THE CHARACTERS; OUR DEAR CHARMANDER, STANLEY, THE NARRATOR, THE OTHER NARRATOR, AND THE 'BACKGROUND CHARACTERS' ARE ALL VERY IMPORTANT. I'M EXCITED TO SEE HOW THEY'LL ALL GROW AND DEVELOP WHILE HIDING AWAY FROM THE FIRST NARRATOR'S GAZE!!!
AS FOR THE STORY, SO FAR, IT'S GOING WELL. THE NARRATOR'S STORY IS ABOUT STANLEY AND HIS CHARMANDER, BUT THE MAIN STORY WE'RE HERE FOR IS ABOUT THE CHARMANDER SURVIVING THE NARRATOR'S NONSENSE!!! I'M LOVING HOW IT'S GOING, THE WHOLE GIST IS JUST FANTASTIC AND IT'S ALL SO UNIQUE!!!!
STYLE IS EASY, TOO; LIKE I MENTIONED EARLIER IN GRAMMAR, STYLE IS PERFECT FOR WHAT IT'S GOING FOR SIMPLY BECAUSE IT FITS WITH THE STORY SO WELL!! The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe edition's release a few years ago has reignited my interest in the game then, and this fic has done so again after reading the most recent chapter as of writing this review.
A human reborn as a pokemon about to be sent on a pokemon journey? Nothing new, but what throws the premise upside down is the inclusion of the Narrator and his powers as the... well... the Narrator.
One detail I must give thanks for is differenciating the narration between the pokemon protagonist and the Narrator himself. It makes reading much easier and easy more fun, I can't help but hear the Narrator's voice every time.
If you love The Stanley Parable, this fic scratches the itch for another sequel that we'll never get from the devs. If you love Pokemon, you'll love a Pokemon Journey with an added twist (or two).
