- MOROSERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A promising novel, especially for fans of gamelit and litRPG.
Style: The story develops into a well-written litRPG, conveying scenes which will often be pleasantly familiar to RPG and MMO players. The world is revealed through dialogue and action, which creates a vivid sense of the story's setting. The MC's struggles and attempts to progress are interesting to follow. There are also a few nice touches in terms of the gameplay, such as a companion suggesting that, if the MC's low level was an issue, he should use percentage-based buffs to help out more effevtively. It gets better as it progresses, and eases into an interesting, solid piece of gamelit.
Story: The MC's sense of alienation from many of the other players is portrayed effectively, setting up a story where they try to find their own path. The MC's exploratory, intimate interactions with the game world and NPCs set up a promising plotline.
Grammar: The grammar is mostly solid, and most issues have been corrected. A few sentences are missing commas, but it's still legible.
Character: The characters develop gradually, through interaction with the world around them. A few characters introduced thus far have the potential to be developed further as the story goes on. - Miguel & TulioRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Leans nicely into the genre, and honestly I like it so far. There's some satisfying character interaction where the chatacters actually feel like people and the pace has been pretty consistent so far.
Slow enough to give exposition and some world building but doesn't throw paragraph after paragraph of it at you at a time.
I really enjoyed reading so far and am excited to see where the story goes and hope it continues in the way it's going! - Dylan KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Story: The story feels like classic litrpg fare, replacing the isekai trope for a more straightforward vr game plot, which is honestly quite refreshing for RR. The story is still very much in its infancy, but already I can see a clear idea of where the story is heading and the groundwork being laid is already quite solid from a plot perspective. The story is moving at a fair pace, and going by the blurb I can tell some more unique twists are on their way.
Character: Barron is the main character so far, and he seems to be a fairly likable everyman type. However, as the stakes in the story (so far) are fairly low, which is not in and of itself a problem, I'd want a clearer, more defined character to follow and hook me into the story. LitRPGs can use fairly flat characters in much the same way as video games themselves do - to allow readers to easily imagine themselves in the character's place. However, without stakes to anchor readers into the plot, I do feel like this story could use a more engaging protagonist to follow.
Style: I actually really like the more straightforward prose the author has used so for. In combination with a few dashes of more descriptive passages, there is a good balance of imagery and maintaining the pace. As somebody whose foremost passion is writing, its always nice to be able to see a writer improve as a story progresses, and that is definitely the case here. The author has clearly been taking feedback on board, and integrating what he's learning with subsequent chapters. Keep it up!
Grammar: The weakest part of the story so far. There are some inconsistent tenses, missing words, and confusing syntax. It is far from unreadable, but some slightly off sentence constructions do make me wonder if the author is not a native english speaker. Either way, I do feel as though they would benefit by using a site such as scribophile to help with line editing, or failing thatm something like grammarly or prowritingaid to help them learn to spot some of - JusttryingtofindawayRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Theres lots to love about this story. From its supreme focus on the VRMMO aspect to the main character zoning out when his coworker talks about the game too much (I am guilty of this myself). Theres a really delightful story here that I'm looking forward to reading more of.
Style: The story flows easily through there are sudden changes in tense at points which sort of broke me out of the immersion of reading. The author does a fantastic job of making the dialogue read easily and creating interesting characters, especially NPCs! The chapters are short and easy to digest while remaining interesting and keeping the pace tight.
Story: The story itself has its bones in the classical VRMMO but fails to fall into the classical trap of being forced to choose to focus on either the real world or the virtual one by just focusing on whats most important to the story. I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming next for the main character because the synopsis leads me to believe there could be betrayal or manipulation afoot!
Grammar: There are small yet noticable tense changes that disrupt the story flow every now and then but that's really my only complaint.
Character: Really the shining point of the story, I love Barrons relentless determination there in chapter 6 and the author has taken a bit of time to develop him before stepping into the vrmmo and really kicking off the action. I'm also looking forward to learning more about the system that it works off of and how powerful Barron can become. The beggining part showed a bit of that but I believe he will become even more powerful! - anakha3263Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far so good. The writing is well paced, the character is relatable, the game systems in use aren't overly complicated. The guy using his real name? Very relatable for those of us with no naming sense. If it goes into the crafting route I'm gonna be real happy, those are the best ones for me.
