3G: the Glowing Green Goo
Community Rating
Description
Mutations. They were the foundation of the former terraforming facility called the Shelter. One needed to mutate, to be enhanced in any way possible, in order to find their role in society. And it was all thanks to the Glowing Green Goo, 3G for short , thatunscientificmiraculous mutagenic substance.
Zax though, had stopped caring about that long ago. No matter how poor and unlucky, puberty was supposed to make mutations unavoidable. Even if just a single one, even if just a small, inconsequential one, it was bound to happen.
It didn’t, and he had long stopped hoping it would. He found his own place with the least mutated inhabitants of the Shelter; made friends, got a job, helped society in his small ways. A small but fulfilling life, that should have passed, without notice.
Until he managed something new with the 3G. Something thought impossible. Something he was not ready for.
Something humanity was not ready for.
A/N:
Slow start.
Started as a writing exercise to force me to be less perfectionist, force good habits, and gain experience for a bigger project later. Mostly successfull so far.
Lost control and it became a novel. I still don't know how.
Any feedback is welcome, I want to improve.
Edit: Last Chapter incoming.

- DosDieDasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story unfolds step by step and the reader learns about the context of the story not in boring info dumps and rather in a more mystery story way which keeps the excitement high.
Really liked the story so far, which has the 3G as a central point of the story but it is not yet super involved beside the effect it has in society. So I am looking forward to more revelations :) - WFSmedleyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Interesting and unique.
I'm surprised this isn't more popular with how good of a story this is. The release schedule might have prevented momentum building.
I binged the entire thing in one sitting and will probably wait for another 20 chapters before continuing (the first 20 covered the first arc).
I am looking forward to seeing where this story goes.
Fleshed out characters with depth (even for some characters I had assumed to be cookie cutter/unimportant).
Impressive world building, of a civilaztion built on what is essentially the TNMT toxic waste, presented in a way that was very rewarding. The narrative helped build the world in my imagination through plot and action instead of info dumps and monologues.
A refreshingly original story. - RichFRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Wothere slowly presents us with a world different than most science fiction works. It is not about the mutants, but the human who just might be the oddest of all. In honesty, it was a slight struggle to read through the first couple chapters. The writing is initially dense but sort of hollow at the same time. This is mainly due to the author's slow-burn approach, hinting at larger things to come. It left me puzzled at first, but once enough puzzle pieces were in place, I became intrigued. I plan to finish this one.
Style - While overall well-written, the author expects our attention. We seldom have knowledge of a given scenario upfront, with the story paced so as to fill in the pieces as we read further in. It is sort of like an ongoing series of mysteries in that regard, all of which make up an even greater mystery. The pacing feels very slow at first, but it picks up.
Grammar - There are minor glitches here and there. Some can be quite puzzling. But overall I do not find the grammar to be distracting, and in general it is quite literate.
Character - So far, there have been two and a half characters. None are fully filled in yet, but I am beginning to like the MC a lot. The main secondary one is growing on me, but she is difficult to pin down as of the end of chapter 6.
Story - To me it has been unique to anything else I have read. The concept of the normal one being the outsider is not in itself new. Yet the ways he relates to others and has forced himself to grow do feel new to me. I am looking forward to finding out more. - BuilderofnullRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This story has all the ingredients for a great story: an original idea, relatable characters with good progression, good world building, and a fun plot.
There is only one thing wrong with the story: scene progression, it often feels disjointed and jumpy at times. The scene and plot often changes, seemingly at random, before getting back on track. The only way I can accurately describe what it feels like is dreamlike, where each action has seemingly logical consequences, but often lead to a different outcome then expected, leaving you wondering how you got there.
A rewrite now that the author has organized the plot would do wonders for this story.
For when the author reads this: Thanks for writing this story! - WickianRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I just spent half an hour writing up a very long review of the pros and cons of this story before my browser tab crashed when I was nearly done so I'm going to give a VERY abbreviated version now.
This story is a bait and switch on all levels(tags, summary, and even the story as you read it) despite having many good points. Primarily the ending that transitions the story from a slice of life/sci-fi about trans-humanism and how human nature will shine through regardless of how much we might change into a literal Bad End trope tragedy with no closure and the bad guys win. The End.
