For as long as she can remember Jane Pippin has been obsessed with theWyld Book of Secrets. As a little girl in war time England she had heard about this mystical book and the power it gives to its reader.

A decade later, the second world war is over, and Jane (aged sixteen) trespasses onto the grounds of a Catholic school after being told that one of its students,Tom Forrest, has information regarding the book.

She arrives to find Tom in an altercation with a bully, and when Tom gets chased into the nearby woods, Jane follows.

Three days later Jane returns with Tom, but their lives have changed forever.
