Heroes, Villains and those in between constantly struggle in a world where the race to the top of the food chain can be brutal and unforgiving. Young MC gets ability to grant wishes, with the caveat of equivalent exchange ala Full Metal Alchemist. I like. The whole villain thing is interesting, and the MC hasn't shown any red flag tendencies with as far as I am in the story, just played with his abilities and used them like most people would.
Style: FIrst person tense, but well done. I'm not the greatest fan of first person, but it wasn't enough to throw me off and I intend to keep reading.  Initial chapters do seem to bounce around in word sizee, from massive chapters to smaller. Hopefully WC hits a more consistant level as it progresses.
Grammar: It is fine. Needs editing before it goes to be published, but for a Royal Road story it's better than most with few exceptionally glaring errors.
Story: Okay, this is the bread and butter of Wish Upon the Stars. The story is intriguing, and the author is very focused on world building. With a vibrant filled out world you can pivot stories in a lot of ways, and I can already imagine the amount of gotchas and twists that are waiting down the road.
Characters: For a young MC, I actually like them. That's normally not the case. All of the characvters seem to have their own goals, view points, and directions. I didn't run into anything flat or cookie cutter.
Other: The Cultivation system is pretty awesome. Looking forward to learning a lot more about it. Seems like something that could possibly jump off the rails very easily, but then risk vs reward works that way.
I highly recommend Wish Upon the Stars.

I don't know why this isn't in Rising Stars as it deserves to be, so I'll give it a little bump with a review.
Story setting is superheros and villains. My favorite aspect is the unique spin on how super powers grow stronger.
You get stat points by enhancing your public image through heroics, feats of strength, or even villianious activities.  It actually gives a reason for the cliche heroic/villianious posturing.
The main character's power is wish-granting.  It sounds OP, but it does come with limits, so it works out.
The main character doesn't stand out too much yet, but there's potential there.  I look forward to seeing him grow.  So far, I also haven't seen any steriotypical or cliche side characters.
Grammar is readable.  Above average by royal road standards.
Too early to really start a good story line other than the MC gaining and adapting to his new power.  But there are definitely events happening outside of the main character that he and his Spoiler will have to address.
I recommend story this to anyone that likes superhero settings or litrpg.  It also might interest those who like cultivator stories since super-power growth follows a strict hierarchy and requires time and effort to improve.

You can always count on Malcolm to come up with original and fresh concepts that make over used tropes like LitRPG and Xianxia worth getting into. Wish Upon The Stars has a solid start, with the fleshing out of the MC and his personal situation as well as the world building starting (and the shenanigans) right away.
    Looking forward to more.

The story is an imaginative take on an overdone concept. The protagonist's ability is creative and stops him from being op. The characters are great and very realistic. The main character actually cares about his friends which is a breath of fresh air. I'm honestly excited for this story's future. All and all it's great.

Written at about the end of Book 2.
I can honestly say this is one of my favorite pieces of fiction I have read ever, let alone on this site.
The setting is interesting, a good mixture of wuxia, sci-fi, and lit-rpg that makes sense in-universe. You learn the world as the MC Shane does, and it feels like a natural progression of information, no out-of-context info dumps on blue boxes here.
The world built here is massive, and you begin to feel the scale as the MC advances the ranks, the world never feels like you're following a 'solved' path and the MC just needs time to get there. Every advancement feels personal, customized and with farther reaching implications on his capabilities. It takes some time for the MC to find his groove, but it's been a satisfying journey.
The stat system is intuitive, simple and interesting without the author feeling the need to pull up the sheet for every single +1 or +2 achieved. Early on it's referenced often, but it slows down as the MC figures out how to use the system so it's not constantly getting shoved in your face. The MCs "special power" of granting wishes is good, really good in fact, and ties in well to the overall plot, but isn't what I would call a "Cheat" power. It has limits, there are things the MC can't just make gone with it. He's needed to use it cleverly, and think outside the box. So I'd say most scenes he's used it have been interesting.
The characters and interesting with unique builds, quirks, habits, speech mannerisms and incredibly unique combat styles. I don't think I've ever had trouble remembering who a character was and what they did, which is saying something because there ends up being a decent cast running around.
The few grammatical errors I've noticed get fixed quickly and the prose and dialogue flow easily.
Tl;Dr: this is a story I drop things to read when each newer chapter comes out. Bravo Malcom, Bravo! 👏👏👏

I am caught up to chapter 646 at the moment, and I have to say that I went into reading this via the recommendation of a friend thinking I would prove his taste faulty.
I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. I think every single aspect of this novel is extremely strong and only improves over time, but what stands out the most to me are the excellent characters (as well as their relationship dynamics) and the amazing worldbuilding (factions, locations, power mechanics, etc. are carefully revealed and expanded on over time in a way that feels natural and maximizes effective pacing) which are both handled superbly.
The plot is also pretty interesting and there are lots of neat reveals as the story carries on. It is a great, emotional story where the characters all grow and it is not cliche or tropey. It does a great job of introducing really interesting elements and giving very fresh takes. (The romance is great as well.)
The main protagonists are definitely some of the best well-written characters since they get so much attention over the course of the story. But I appreciate the fact that many characters are not simply one-time relevant characters and are meant to feature long past their initial introduction with real relevance to the overall narrative. This creates a whole selection of characters that are deep and fun to read rather than just a singularly well-written main protagonist.
I highly recommend reading this novel to anyone. It is definitely the best novel I’ve read on this site by a long shot.

Initially I clicked on this book because I misread the title and got very curious, however I got over the disappointment really quick because the actual concept got me hooked. It has so far been a very good read and I really just cannot wait to read some more.

I've read through the first volume and been enjoying this a lot. Our main character, Shane, has a great voice and is fun to follow as he gains his power and seeks to exploit it. The system feels very deep and well thought out, with the MC gaining powers and abilities in a way that feels earned.
The story feels like classic superhero fare, featuring guilds and academies and crime syndicates, but with a universe-spanning cultivation twist. The combination is unique and I can't wait to learn more about the world. The characters feel pretty fleshed out, even if the story is only told from Shane's perspective. The characters definitely have a bit of an "over-the-top" superhero feel to it, but it is explained in the story in a way that feels unique and very original.
Pacing so far has been great. The author deftly handles side plots and intrigue, shifting gears between action, crafting and training, SoL, etc so that the story never feels like it's spinning its wheels. The author also keeps a very brisk update schedule.
My one quibble would be some of the sentence structure can be a bit odd, but otherwise a great read and I'm looking forward to reading more!

I have thoroughly enjoyed everything about this series. It is wonderful that the story has progressed in a consistent way that shows the characters are growing without making the progression seem cheap. I love how cultivation is handled and the ways that progression has developed for our characters and their story.
The banter can get a little much for my taste but that is my major complaint about the story so far.

The wish ability is a cool double edged sword for the hero to figure out. He can't use it on himself and can only passively receive gains from it but it does boost him fairly well. The wishes almost predicate the necessity of a close knit band of friends which the hero is able to slowly build which adds believability to the story. All in all it comes across as believable and possible if the mechanics of this realm truly existed. Fun read and easy to binge through. Keep it up, definitely having fun reading it.
