Description
In the year 3027 humanity makes a breakthrough, the first interdimensional portal to another world is opened, and a candidate is sent through. He died immediately upon arrival. It is now the year 3047, and humanity prepares to send a second candidate, this time equipped with the tools and equipment necessary to survive in this hostile world. A world of wizards and sorcery, fueled by an energy previously unknown to science: mana. An energy which proves to be deadly to the human body. Emma Booker is a 19 year old ROTC candidate chosen for this task, to fulfill the requirements set by this magical realm known only as The Nexus, as they demand a college-age candidate enroll in a magical academy. The candidate will be tested and assessed to prove their worth, and by extension, the worth of their home realms. Yet all is not as it seems, and there is more lurking underneath this bright and fantastical world of High Fantasy. Challenges will befall Emma as she navigates everything from ancient magical conspiracies, to political intrigue amongst her noble peers. She will face threats both existential, and personal. Even the act of eating and drinking will prove to be a major challenge, as she has to do all of this whilst trapped inside a suit of power armor designed to protect her from the dangers of mana. Armed with a sidearm, a laser cannon, a railgun, and raw human wit bolstered by an AI, Emma will have to choose between a careful balance of strength and diplomacy to see herself through her first year at the Transgracian Academy for the Magical Arts. - JoseelprittyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Basically this is a story where two worlds, a magical one that is what our protagonist was, and a scientific one where our protagonist comes. If you want more explanation on specific issues, we can say that the earth has technologically advanced centuries, millennia in the future, already exploring our entire galaxy. and that over time he realized a strange magical frequency It could be said and he realized that they are not the only world that exists there are things outside of that galaxy that would be the Nexus world and they realize what things like magic beings like cobos dragons fairies magical things that were previously bred impossible are real and give a true reason why human beings have not discovered magic or have interacted with it and it is that from the beginning the human race is innately deficient in magic they do not have a field Because there is a force field that helps you manipulate magic or feel it so from the beginning the human being has had to advance without that help while all the other worlds that are connected to the Nexus that is the core of everything the universe making the human race the only innate user of technology something never seen before in nexus
I am interesting because it gives an incredible contrast to how people in this world who live based on magic, everything has to do with magic, they have to see a world that is physically impossible for them, something that demolishes all their fundamental Pillars of what would be their history and explains it in such a way that it is masterful - JuliaKyuuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is awesome. Its a perfect sci fi fantasy r/hfy story. It has everything. Its a story about a road less taken. About a manaless being in a world of mana. About progress and stagnation. About nobility and its hollowlessness. About the gaps between different societies and how to bridge them.
All that combined with humour, tension and wonder of a young woman in a complete foreign world. - AzkalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0AMAZING! BINGED READ ALL THE CHAPTERS AVAILABLE TO ME IN A DAY!I literally could not put my phone down reading this story. Fun, engaging characters, a world that naturally expands in scope, it's so good! I'm salivating at the thought of new chapters.Grannar is impeccable, pacing is good and the story is beyond words. Im a sucker for these kind of stories, modern or sci-fi earth interacting with magic and I just can't get enough. It's so hard to find a story like this done well and I'm here for it, looking forward to reading more! I don't know if I can stock up on chapters to binge read it's so good.
- AcrinoeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A wonderful mix if sci fi and fantasy from an author familiar with both genres. Unlike most, this one drops a mundane power suited ROTC student into the heart of a fantasy school with all the usual tropes.
Grammar- the story feels smooth with no glaring spelling, grammar, or tense issues.
Style- the author keeps the story rolling at a good pace. Backstory and worldbuilding is introduced naturally and with a good pace.
Story- this ain't no cookie cutter story. The author has put a lot of thought into both the technological setup and the magical systems. Details and interactions create a good portion of conflict. The whole premise is that mana environment kills humans. Of course, human response is “hold my beer” and dives right in.
Character - the characters are well developed. The antagonism of the Nexus school seems a little over the top, with a lot of emphasis on hierarchy. The story relies a bit too much on false assumptions on the Nexus side, while the human character is a bit overpowered. I do see how the army of one is fully loaded out. A little more uncertainty might have helped here.
All said they story progresses very well with conflicts mounting by the minute. The library interlude is interesting and more world building.
The author is not a newcomer and has developed his story and storytelling quite a bit. Worth your time to invest in staying with the steady publishing schedule. It sounds like the story is already significant and is being crossed over from other platforms. - JeslisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Disclaimer: I was following the story on Reddit before it was published here.
This is an amazing 'what if' story that perfectly encompasses the reddit of 'Humanity, F*** Yea'
As a general note; I usually hate slow paced stories.. So you'd think this story about a non-magic futuristic human getting punted (with governmental assistance) to a magic nexus world for school... where classes start 1 week after arrival... and is on chapter 35.. MIGHT have actually started classes.
The answer is nope, not yet.
And yet, I love this story. It may be slow paced but it does not lack very interesting characters, plenty of dialogue and discussion... and therefor it is amazing. - HekghasttrooperRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read it all the way to the most recent chapter, and I LOVE IT. It is hard for me to get into fiction outside what I'm used to, but I love the novelty of this series. It's a breath of fresh air, and I wanna express my gratitude. I also love the art, but the design of the armor is iffy at best. Still, very cool take on it.
- BombertreborRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In "Wearing Power Armor to a Magic School," the slow-burn narrative truly sets it apart, presenting a protagonist who embodies restraint and thoughtful action rather than the typical power-hungry archetype. This refreshing approach allows for deeper character exploration and relationship dynamics, as readers witness the main character grappling with her abilities. However, the deliberate pacing may test the patience of some readers, especially with weekly chapter releases. While this gives time for reflection and character development, it can also lead to a feeling of sluggishness in plot progression. Ultimately, the story’s nuanced character and themes of restraint provide a unique experience, even if the pacing may not appeal to everyone.
- DaelkyrDiariesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story has me completely wrapped from the start! I love this idea od a magical society being confronted by another that is non magical and advanced in a different trajectory.
the characters also have real depth as they are confronted by this and how they process the ramifications and how it affects them in turn. Emma os also a interesting character in that shes auite headstrong and confident but very empathetic to the others. - Frodo711Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very few worlds have ever been so intriguing and immersive.I wasn't expecting to read something so good that isn't officially published, but I am excited to see the characters progress and plot unfold with such clear intent and dedication!Honestly this is by far one of the best written stories I've ever read and doesn't have the punctuation issue that plague unpublished lightnovels.
- MerlinRedbeardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Obligatory read on Reddit first. Glad it's here now!A haughty, uptight, overbearing civilization will be taught a lesson on another way to live, often times in spectacularly ways. Just because you have magic, don't discount what technology can do!Story balances heavy character development/introspection with an analysis of the world and actions made to topple the long-standing and oppressive traditions of the Academy
