- Edge ValmondRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style:
I do not grade style, but if I have to give something. Know it is in third person PoV, as well as easy to follow along.
Grammar:
Mostly is okay, but with some issues here and there.
Story Score:
Ice having pretty much a good enough life, was unmotivated to say the least. Until he got himself an invitation. This is where he found himself without a choice, and his world changing in this instance. Finding out about his uniqueness to say in the least, like being able to run a ship on his own, and about a store with skill books.
Eventually meeting the System after a partial repair, who goes by the name of Raven. After landing on a place, Ice finds out the requirements to earn points. Which seems he isn’t too thrilled about it. I don't want to spoil anything much, just know at least in the starting portion. It seems to be revolving around earning points for upgrades.
Character Score:
It is quite telling on the type of person Ice is. Him being more of someone, who had it good enough. Though, looking like he wanted something more. Until he ended up finding out his venture will be anything but safe. Along with Raven, the two makes for a good enough pair.
Overall:
It is a solid story, there are just a few issues to work out. Which at the moment, it is in a rewrite session. Though, there is one suggestion I do have. Try and separate dialogues from each other, having them together makes it a bit too stressful. Sometimes it can be confused with another, not a huge problem. Just, something to note. Anyway, it is pretty good as a whole, and I’d say give it a go. From what I can tell, it looks like it will be spanned a long way in terms of the world. - luc3iannRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0refreshing story, .. would enjoy a slower pace, and add more info , about planets , characters, .but that on your call, it was a joy to read your work , keep it goin , a bit longer chapters if you could would love them . keep up the 👍
good work. - ThatGuyKoolsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I definitely like the premise and the writing is good......only criticisms would be that the chapters are a bit short and the transitions are too abrupt, feels like you're always jumping from one scene to the next, it leaves holes and well as takes away from the plot in my opinion. Overall though good job, following from now on.
- Ser Patrick PentRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'm reviewing this before the planned edits of the opening chapters, so it's possible my opinion may later be dated. War crimes of a Dronemancer gets off to a rocky start, but once you make it past the first few chapters, it delivers a great read.
Style:
Brisk and workman-like. Opening chapters tend to go: "Ice did this. Ice did that" with not much exposition. The author has promised to fix things however, so I'd be focusing my critique on later chapters. This is where the efficient narration shines. There is little room for clutter, and as a result, story elements are brought to the forefront.
Story:
Strong. It's not everyday you come across a litrpg that focuses on sci-fi elements. The Theriope make for great villains (with a good name too), and once the plot starts introducing new characters, you get a look at how the world at large functions.
Grammar:
Needs an editor or a proof-reader to work out the kinks. The few problems I noticed are related to punctuations so I won't be too hard on it. Sentence structure on the other hand is strong, and I was entertained enough by the story that I didn't notice the presence of 'Rouge Angles of Satin', if any.
Character:
You can't help but love Raven. Ice is a bit of a blank slate at the time, but his interactions with Raven make for some of the more exciting bits of the story.
Overall:
Early chapters still read like a WIP but this story is fully deserving of your time and interest. With a few tweaks, there is a diamond nestled within the rough. - KageMugenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0OVERALL SCORE 4
STORY 4.5
The story so far at the 11th chapter seems promising although a lot faster pace as I would like. There is plenty of fighting and action involve from chapter one onwards. The MC seems to shrug most things off a bit too easy. The world setting is a dark space apocalypse with the MC finding it's way into it at the dusk.
CHARACTERS: 4
So far there are only three characters one of them being an AI besides the enemies which are Therion and with the amount of fighting and actions there was involved they have yet not been explored.
There is a glimpse into history of that dimension with the the introduction of Clockwork a defeated ruller of humans.
STYLE: 4
The chapters sometimes vary greatly in length. Some are very short.
Typical tropes of system and a shop combined with space and nanobots and droids.
GRAMAMAR: 3.5
The grammar needs work. From missing spaces to using wrong words. Luckily that is the easiest thing to fix. And the author is already promising a rewrite.
Left a lot of edit suggestions so by the time you read this it may no longer be relevant.
It's still early but so far it looks promising. - yohmmRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0As it is, I like the plot and the way the story goes.
But ! Where is the system really going to start working? At the last chapter (42), the tutorial and quest given have completely disappeared.
The MC seems sometimes like a complete noob on robotics and Games?! Why so? It supposedly was his forte in his previous life...
I like the psychological part where Ice isn't a killer born nor a skilled hunter from his previous life. He struggles, try and think.
As for the Dronemancer part, it feels like it is not used as much as it could. Just take a look at the other users, they feel so much strengthened and adapted to their personalities.
Longer chapters and less jumps from one time line to the other will surely make it even better. Keep the good work! - ReedbetweenthelinesRoyal Road★★★ 2.5It's interesting at first but the unpolished and silly nature of the story as it continues is just off putting. It feels like it's constantly rushing to the next scene without fleshing anything out, it doesn't feel like a seriously written story. The grammar leaves a bit to be desired, especially when it creates confusion sometimes.
- MaradonRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Review at Chapter 10:
Standard setup; smart, introverted gamer gets into VR game pod and ends up in another world. Nice change that its sci-fi-ish instead of fantasy. Damaged ship, AI assistant, and having drones do the real fighting while the squishy human tries not to die. All great things and keep me reading.
Problem is the main character. Feels more like a stoner, casual gamer. During the first life-and-death situation he gets bored and zones out. Then has 3 days of travel time and instead of doing something useful he takes a nap.
10 chapters in and if he still thinks this is a game he's the worst gamer ever. If he doesn't think this is a game he has zero survival instincts or common sense.
That being said the story has some good ideas and the short chapters give it a fast paced feel.
**EDITED REVIEW AT CHAPTER 18**
Turns out this story is a very rough draft. Author deliberating skips a scene because writing a long conversation would be boring and they'll get to it later. Then proceeds to write 20 more chapters without every going back to that.
