Shunned by all, Emm has no access to the [System].

- ThornierRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started reading because the premise sounded interesting and I was not disappointed.
The main character doesn't have the system so he has to progress by ingesting mana and then exercising. This is considered useless by anyone with the system. He has no crutches but at least the power is his and not the system's. There is definitely something sketchy about the system.
I like the fact that he's progressed without the system. You can tell because he has adapted to the mana and the spear is lighter, etc.
This is a fun read and I wish those who knocked the score down would reevaluate. - ThorgalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0No system, and no benefits, the only way forward for the MC is the last and hardest path of improvement.
Following their reincarnation, Emm will have to figure out a way to stay alive in an unforgiving world, with hopes to return to the modern world.
Style: The prose is solid for this story and it reads smoothly. Before I knew it I had already reached halfway into the story. The chapters are on the shorter side but there's plenty of meat in them.
Grammar: There are some small errors in word choice but there are no spelling mistakes and dialogue punctuation is all great.
Story: If bad luck was a person. The worst thing to happen in a system-isekai is to reincarnate without the system. Even just living an idle life is not an option for the MC as he needs to become stronger just to survive. The MC must adapt and overcome this disability and I am curious how he will proceed with the hand he was dealt.
Character: The beginning focuses on a small cast and explores them before heading into a larger world. It is clear that the inhabitants of this world are more jaded/ruthless compared to the new arrivers. The main character acts his age and is rational, which makes me look forward to how he will grow and react to this world.
Overall: If you're looking for an isekai story with an interesting setting that reads smoothly then definitely give this one a try! - YohaoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I had seem stories about broken systems before but one about not having a system at all ? That's daring and interesting !
Emm, our MC, is an interesting character, he's a pretty normal dude, if a bit too addicted to coffee, he's no extreme man in any way and thinks of ways to keep living despite not having a system, his thought process on his options is really interesting.
The world building is still a mystery but what we know of it is kind of ominous and give us more questions than answers and I'm absolutely here for it !
Also really interesting is the possible answer to not having a system that the author has been showing ! Will Emm become a cultivator ? Will he become a mana mutant ? Will he have a complete meltdown and become a mana ghost ? We don't know and that's amazing !
Thanks for writing ! Anxious to see what's next in the story ! - 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's an isekai all right, but groups of otherworlders popping into existence seems to be a frequent event here. Rather than face this dangerous new world with the help of a system, every other reincarnator gets a system and Emm gets nothing. The training arc has been completely useless for our intrepid main character, and his apparent mentor has no interest in his survival. There's plenty of unknown variables involved here, and I'm quite curious about what's going on behind the scenes. The writing is technically sound, and the few tables have been formatted well so far. Great start, and I can't wait for more!
- Peter I. (Ash & Ivy)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Do you enjoy when an author treats a protagonist as a punching bag? Do you like a steady character growth that’s built on suffering? Ooooh, you twisted reader! You’re just like me…
Grab some popcorn and sharpen your torture implements as we join Emm’s adventure. Here is a quote from Chapter 18 to whet your appetite.
“It would be another beautiful day. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and Emm was suffering.”
So, the MC finds himself in a new world with a big handicap. He has no access to the [System]. The author has already dropped some hints for Emm’s possible future growth. My rating is based on those hints and the solid writing.
As the author has stated, the pace is on the slow-burn side, so be mindful of that. Personally, I like that approach. - PriapusTheQuestionableRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story looks to be a relatively slow-burn story with an deliberately gradual unravelling of the worldbuilding, but it shows a lot of promise.
It's still early days, but there's sufficient signposting about the general thrust of what the MC is going to strive for in the first arc of the story, (To find a niche for himself in a world that is unkind to Earthling "Heroes", and has expectations on him that depend on a functioning System.), and the toolset he has available to do so (The ability to imbibe, absorb and manipulate mana naturally, without the forms of help and hindrance that the System provides).
Some of the reviews made me fear that it may have been a bit of an arbitrary misery conga like the start of Rising of the Shield Hero, but I am very pleased to report that that is not the case, at the time of writing. The main character is in a bad situation, with a number of characters, especially those in positions of power, who are some level of antagonistic or unhelpful towards him, but also to his peers. While he is the worst off, he is the worst among equals, and he has a friend. The other earthlings all seem to treat him with at least the same regard one typically has for a stranger in trouble. Altogether, it keeps the tone varied and more positive, and keeps it out of misery-porn territory.
Style: I never know what to write for style as it's really not something I consciously attend to as I read. That said, nothing about how it's been written so far has harshed my vibe, so the style must be pretty good. XD
Story: The story is hard to rate at this early stage, as so much is setting up pieces of a slowly-expanding mystery, such that much of the quality of the story will only be properly assessable when everything has unfolded, and one can tell whether everything makes sense and was leading up to something good. That said, what I have seen so far is promising, so I am quite optimistic.
My only complaint about the story so far is that if the MC's pre-death ex - WeavervaleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style- this is written clean and the prose is just right for this type of fiction. I can't ask for more. everything that the author wants to be clear... is clear. which means that the things I'm like uhhh are intentional and yeah it's drawing me in.
This bleeds over into story- there are tropes, and inversions and then there's this bit of hilarity. Rules that don't make sense, perks, like uh what? It's well worth a read for the premise alone and I read all of it in one short sitting. So, read it. This is just a review.
And I need more words, so like
Grammar- The grammar is fine. It didn't take me out of it at all which is my biggest criteria, you know? The jarring errors I can usually forgive, but when it's smooth? oh it goes down very well.
finally character, which is where this shines. I fully expected this to be hilarious and it is, in a dark way which lends itself well to the fiction. So, more of this please!
My favorite parts are where the poor kid is figuring out how screwed he is without any of the powers that his friends get. That's life right there, isn't it? The human condition? This book is poetry. - weewRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It seemed like this would be some kind is wacky comedy, but it isn't. It really does suck for our protagonist who is basically such at level 0. The first few chapters straight up deal with just trying to survive, but he's getting outclassed so quickly it doesn't even seem like taking a non-combat role would be viable. Wondering where it's going, but it kind of looks like a cultivation vs RPG story?
- J. DavisRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Unusual start for a LITRPG with a young man sent to the turorial despite not having a system. The MC needs to advance but its unclear how he will progress (or survive) without the ability to level. The writing is solid and I'm interested to see how the story goes.
- The LibravoreRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Story
I'm enjoying the concept and world-building used in this story. The conflict is largely self-vs-environment and self-vs-self as the protagonist tries to survive in a vastly different world from his own without help while getting in his own way.
Other characters are obviously on the Hero's Journey but the main character is not, or has been severely delayed in finding their mentor due to the unique circumstances of the world. The "mentors" have become secondary antagonists further restricting the protagonist's ability to progress. This is, fortunately, causing the protagonist to think more laterally while trying to survive in a world that has long believed there was only one path to power.
Style & Character
The wiring is sound but it does suffer from a lot of stereotyping and it feels like the main-character is voicing everything from the perspective of a depressed individual who feels like the world has always been set into castes and he is on the bottom, so I expect that rather than seeing character development we might see caste improvement as skills and abilities are learned and the main character adapts to live in this world. I'm hoping part of the character's development is learning than things aren't always as stratified as he thinks they are & that as he breaks expectations, his expectations are exceeded in turn.
Grammar
Nothing jumped out at me in a way that made me groan or put down the story. The heavy stereotyping mentioned previously did impede me, but I've been checking back frequently for a month to see if the story would continue and I wouldn't do that for a story with terrible grammar.
Overall
I'm hoping the writer hasn't been discouraged, because I feel like there's been significant improvement in the writing already compared to the start of the series & it is an interesting concept to write with. I hope to see the haitus end soon so we can learn more about how the main character will survive the world he has landed in. Thanks for bring
