- NewbageRoyal Road★★ 1.5The story is a perpetual gag that isn't even funny. I was hoping, based on the ratings and the Synopsis, that it would be a unique premise that was somehow pulled off well. That us not the case. None of the characters behave like people. Their motivations don't seem believable the slightest. The worldbuilding is cringy and difficult to accept, even with suspension of disbelief dialed to maximum. There is goosebump-inducing cultural misappropriation of Japanese honorifics in what appears not to be a Japanese society. The author doesn't even bother to name his main character, and just has him referred to as "Main-kun", which the hero in explains is literally short for "main character-kun".
All of the above is bad and severely detracts from the story on their own. But the overall effect is that the story does a terrible job making you care about the plight of these non characters. The author is so bad at actually making them seem like people that he tries to rely heavily on 4th wall breaking as if to say "See, it's fine that they don't seem like people, because they aren't. They're just poorly formed caricatures in a story and even the characters themselves know that." But that only makes the problem worse. As it constantly shoves in the readers face that this is an unconpelling, badly written story.
For example, in chapter one of the character complains about poor pacing after the scene skips time and a bunch of intermediate steps. Yea... Having the characters complain about the pacing issue doesn't make the pacing issue better, dear author. It just draws unnecessary attention to it. And thus story is rife with it.
This is more of a meme than an actual story. I only recommend this story for people who spend over 4 hours a day browsing 2chan or 4chan. The only thing good about this story is the grammar, which marks the writer as lielu a native English speaker. But still points off in that category for the cringy misuse of Japanese honorifics and nicknames.
