Hm, for some reason advanced reviews must be 200 words long… darn. Alright, in that case, let me go over the entire story. The introduction of the nightmares was sudden but didn’t feel uncomfortable. Despite not having any prior setup, the author was able to let the emotions be felt. The horror elements are easy to imagine, though we don’t get a crystal-clear picture yet—leaving just enough suspense and mystery to stay engaged.
The author doesn’t lean too heavily on horror either, showing us the main character’s real life and the environment he exists in. The impact of the nightmares on his daily routine is clear, and that grounded contrast really works.
The other characters don’t feel hollow and have a surprising amount of depth. The backstory with one of the side characters was fluid, meaningful, and emotionally resonant.
I really want to support this book. It deserves to be seen. Also, RR should seriously change policies like these.
