Description
In a world that looks ordinary on the surface, monsters walk among humanity.
Kain learned that the hard way.
After a catastrophic explosion at a secret research library leaves several people dead and a forbidden grimoire missing, Kain becomes the sole survivor—and the prime suspect. Hunted by forces he doesn’t understand, he soon discovers the truth is far stranger than anyone believes.
Something changed inside him that night.
Kain now possesses terrifying abilities: the power to manipulate biology, wield living electricity, and absorb the strength, memories, and skills of those he kills. But every power he takes leaves behind a whisper of the soul, echoes that slowly claw at his sanity.
Worse still, he’s never truly alone.
Two voices share his mind—one a brilliant and ruthless scientist, the other a primordial warrior bound by ancient blood. Whether they are guides, parasites, or something far more dangerous remains to be seen.
As Kain struggles to control his growing power, he is drawn into a hidden supernatural world operating beneath modern society—one filled with predators, secret governments, and ancient monsters who see humanity as prey.
Among them is Rico, a vampire general known as El Sombra, who is preparing something terrible in the shadows.
People with rare and powerful bodies are disappearing.
A secret council is gathering.
And Kain may be the only thing standing between them and a feast that could change the balance of the supernatural world forever.
But every battle makes him stronger.
And every victory brings him closer to becoming the very monster they fear.

Varia tells the story of Kain, an average delivery man who is thrust headlong into a supernatural world. Now armed with dangerous abilities, Kain must master both his newfound power - as well as an equally dangerous hunger, all while dealing with two strange allies. On one hand, there's Belmont, a voice within him which urges restraint and caution, and on the other hand there's Doc, his one-time mentor twisted by an ill-thought experiment who now seeks desire and reckless abandon.
"The angel-and-devil" approach really works with with the progression fantasy element of the first few chapters, as Kain struggles to adapt to this harsh supernatural world while also coming to grip with his powers. Kain also slowly begins to balance the light side with the dark side, which lets Doc slowly become more a fun character rather than simply a source of temptation.
Overall, the grammar and style works. The author does a great job setting up the scene and describing the action, though the opening chapters to feel a little light on description. Also there some spacing issues in some of the early middle chapters which make the chapters feel quite a bit longer. But these are minor complaints which are both easily fixed.
While Kain, Doc and Belmont are a fun trio, it does feel like there should be other characters interacting with Kain, as the same old characters become a bit old after a while. Hopefully we see more of both the world and the characters in the future - the author has done a great job setting everything up so far, it would be great to see more.
