Unwilling to a New World (Cultivation Scribe - Part 1)

Description
Waking up is never fun, but waking up on the grass in an alien station with a footless giant bird hovering above him was not something K.C. had ever imagined. The situation became more disturbing when the bird told him and the other men on the grass that they had died on Earth but were being offered an opportunity. That opportunity felt more like being forced to become the entertainment for whatever alien power backed the bird.
But the bird demonstrated its power by killing the first man to speak out. Silence and assent seemed to be the only way. But that meant walking though an archway made of light and stepping into a world that was clearly going to be far different from Earth. Sure the aliens said they'd provide a few items and skills to get him started, but survival seemed unlikely. He choose to step forward, working every moment to think up a way to survive the adventures to come.

- Hero GohanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I love me a little Iseakai, so let’s take a look at this new web novel “Unwilling To A New World”.
KC is pulled from Earth along with several other individuals. They are presented with a selection of different worlds to be transported to. KC opts for a world that blends science fiction, fantasy, and progression elements
Most of the guys he goes with rush to the portal and skip the orientation video. Instead, they argue over armor and combat skills. KC, on the other hand, takes a more thoughtful approach, suspecting that life on another world will demand a more considered approach and skills beyond mere physical prowess.
After the initial setup, we’re transported to a world of danger and dungeons!
What truly sets this book apart for me are its intricate mechanics. The dungeons, skill cards, and the overall “layout of the land” are all meticulously crafted and presented in an engaging manner.
It’s also amusing to witness how many of the other guys are caught off guard in their attempts to navigate a world they hastily entered without any prior knowledge or preparation. This situation naturally leads to some delightful character-driven humor.
There are a few instances where the writing feels like a strong first draft, as certain points are repeated multiple times. However, for the most part, the story’s flow is solid. It’s enjoyable to simply relax and learn more about the world through the eyes of our protagonist.
At this point, the side characters are somewhat two-dimensional, and many appear to exist solely to highlight our main character. Nevertheless, for this type of story, that’s not necessarily a problem. Many isekai novels are power fantasies, and that’s perfectly acceptable. I anticipate that the characters will gain more depth as the story progresses.
If you’re a reader who loves world-building and Isekai, I’d recommend giving this one a try. - Morbid writerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A strong “game-world abduction” premise with a brutal opening and a satisfyingly crunchy system. The image of a stadium full of confused young men and an alien bird casually bisecting someone to make a point is memorable and immediately sells the stakes. Konrad, our quietly pragmatic MC, is easy to latch onto: calm, observant, and relentlessly planning three steps ahead, he grounds the story in a very human “okay, how do we survive this?” mindset.
The character dynamics are at their best when Konrad is bouncing off Terrence and the others. Terrence in particular is a highlight – his mix of humor, practicality, and long-term thinking (trade, piers, the spaceport) gives their conversations a spark that makes the logistics feel like teamwork instead of pure exposition. Those scenes, where they debate which cards to use, how to feed everyone, or how to prepare for future contact, hint at a compelling group story and a potential settlement-building saga.
The card, dungeon, and inventory systems are very clearly laid out. Watching Konrad experiment with inventory slots, card-ripping, armor, and weapons feels intuitive; readers who enjoy rule-heavy LitRPG will have no trouble following how things work. The first dungeon, Cyanlea, is a nice showcase: armor manifests in a cloud of smoke, panels greet you by name, and loot/skill choices all slot neatly into the framework you’ve built.
Where the story stumbles a bit is balance. At times, the mechanics and explanations dominate to the point that the emotional side of the situation takes a back seat. Konrad’s competence is fun, but the narrative occasionally spends so long on system breakdowns, card lists, or detailed preparation that it slows the momentum and blunts the tension. There are stretches where the focus on solo planning and mechanics had me wanting to get back to the group and see more of those interpersonal dynamics again.
Overall, this is an engaging, system-forward portal/LitRPG with a brutal hook, a likeable plan - Odie2040Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I first ran into Allan Joyal on a another story site (SOL) and I:be ready some of his books on Amazon.. He has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Find his characters engaging and well developed. As is the case here. Most of them are reluctant heroes that just try to survive.
The story in "Unwilling" is somewhat of a common theme, but one I happen to like. The main character, KC, dies on earth and aliens transfer him and others to a new world vastly different from earth. There are elements of High Fantasy and SciFi. If you are a fan of the genre then you will enjoy the story.
The only criticism I can offer is that Allan needs an editor. There are some minor and not at all frequent spelling and grammar mistakes. Most appear to be from Allan changing his mind about what or how he wanted to describe a scene or how a character said something. It's mostly minor and mostly only grammar Nazis will be upset about it.
Overall a good read with a good plot and a developing group of characters. Something Allan is good at doing. I can't wait for the next chapter and/or book. I recommend following both the story and the author. - Tori JonesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Allan Joyal is a long time favorite of mine. If you have read his Jord series, this story holds the promise to be even better. I also like his Living Dungeon story. If you want some racy stuff that is still a good story, he publishes that elsewhere...
Anyway, I hope readers who come to this page will give it a fair chance and share it as well. Allan is an excellent writer who definitely deserves to prosper. - Mel_FiammeRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5World building is fun, settlement building is fun - once the relationship dynamics started it lost me completely (felt very trad wife evolutionary psychology men are from Mars). Writing it up as I know what is not my cup of tea will absolutely be someone else’s.
I had mixed up the author with someone else so gave the story longer than I would have otherwise. Basically once the locals show up it’s downhill, plus an unfortunate reference to “Indians” who didn’t “do much with their land” was 100% in keeping with the main character’s world view but won’t sit well with some readers.
