Unseen (Book 1 of The Gatekeeper Series)

Description
Kai Ki has spent years running-from her past, from people, from the pain of losing everything she loved. Closing herself off from the world, she quits her job and takes up work as a delivery driver, preferring solitude over human connection. The only thing keeping her grounded is her single mindedness in her job and staying physically healthy through mixed martial arts, the one habit that makes her feel strong when everything else feels out of control.
But when a routine delivery takes her to the quiet town of Tennga, Georgia, Kai's carefully constructed reality shatters. The fairy tales she once dismissed as mere stories are frighteningly real, and the creatures lurking in the shadows are not just myths-they are watching her. As she's drawn deeper into a hidden world of ancient beings, magic, and political intrigue, she realizes that she may not be as ordinary as she once believed.
With the help of her new, not-so-human friends, Kai begins to heal, to fight for something bigger than herself, and to open her heart once more-to friendship, to family, and maybe even to love. But as she uncovers the truth about who she really is, she must decide: will she embrace the destiny that calls to her, or will she turn away from the world she was never meant to leave unseen?
A gripping blend of sci-fi, fantasy, and romance, Unseen is a story of resilience, found family, and the power of love in the face of the unknown.

- Te17Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This author has a great idea! So far Unseen has captured my interest!
The main character Kai Ki is really interesting. There are only 4 chapters so far but I’m really excited to find out more about her! I love the idea of merging modern real world with the fantasy! And using real places is very interesting! I don’t think I’ve read a story based in Georgia, US before! But it just makes this story even more genuine and original.
I hope to be kept entertained through out the whole story!
I look forward to reading more! - Nyx_SageRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Ok, so before I get into the technical stuff, I want to preface it with this. "Unseen" is an emotional knockout! From the very first page, I was hooked by Kai's raw, relatable journey. The author has a phenomenal gift for crafting deep emotional connections between character, every friendship, every moment of trust or vulnerability felt earned and powerful. I laughed, I cried, and I didn’t want it to end. Keep up the amazing work author :)
Onto the more in depth bit of this review.
Style - Very fun and interesting writing style, no major notes here.
Story - 10/10, I just wish it had lasted longer. But I won't take off points for that ;)
Grammar - Not perfect, but there was also nothing so bad that it kept the story from being enjoyable, so I won't harp too much about it.
Character - Catriona is an outstanding protagonist. Powerful, weary, and deeply human despite her (near) immortality. Her inner conflict about her magic and past makes her both relatable and fascinating. The secondary characters, especially the warrior from her past, feel vivid and grounded, adding tension and emotional depth to her journey.
All in all "Unseen" is a must read for all fantasy lovers :) - TarshtraRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Kai Ki and her found family are quite the enjoyable tale to follow, up to the closure of this first book. Things might move a bit fast for some, but I didn't mind it with the chunkier length of the chapters.
However, there are some technical issues around dialogue, with missing quotation marks and large, continuous paragraphs even when speakers change, confusing who's saying what on a first read. Nothing unsurpassable, and it lessens a bit as chapters progress, but something to keep in mind.
That said, I'm looking forward to the next chapter!
