Living on the streets of Orchard's Reach, Sen never dreamed about becoming a cultivator. He barely even knew what cultivation was, let alone wanted to do it. When fate intervenes, though, he finds himself the disciple of a cultivator. Like all who find themselves on the path to defying the heavens, Sen will have to decide what kind of person he wants to be and what kind of mark he wants to leave on the world.

- SakageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You end up reading a ton of stories on this site that all need a ton of work, be it plot lines/armour being ridiculous, editing, my god the editing, to just unbelievable characters with no depth.
This story has none of that. Actually started this on Kindle, and like 10 chapters in to book 1, i had already bought 2 and 3, and preordered 4. Then when i finished 3 about 5 days after starting book one, i figured i should check if it was a serial being posted on RR. Whelp here i am now starting book 7.
My comments in the first section mainly apply to the early novels where Eric has probably had time to go back and make editing passes. In the more recent stuff, books 5 and 6, i am finding the occasional error but again, im assuming as it gets closer to publication those will all get caught and corrected along the way.
MC is special but not overtly special in the beginning. All your given to believe is the kid has drive and one special skill, his ability to "hide", that draws interest from his Master and ends up turning him into an experiment in Cultivation.
It touches on all the common tropes of an eastern style cultivation setting, sects, arrogant young masters, etc, and like Beware of Chicken, throws everything around all twisty turny like.
TL:DR; if you like Cultivation stories, do yourself a favor and pick up books 1 through 3 on amazon and be prepared to lose a week or two to this. - MPRRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This one has been an enjoyable story and I'm rather disappointed to be caught up with the current releases. I will be following and favourite -ing though because I want to know What Happens Next.
The grammar and editing have been good but it is a work in progress so the odd bobble may slip through but I didn't really notice anything egregious.
The characters do come across fairly well. I find the MC quite likeable and he tends to have valid reasons for his actions - even during the 'Heart Demon' arc, which I do wish had been a bit more fleshed out.
All in all I've been happy to spend my time reading this one. - Thomas LawlessRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author makes it quite clear from the beginning that this story is merely inspired by Xianxia stories, not actually one of them. Despite this, it reads quite true. If there is any story it is reminding me of so far, it would be Ave Rem Xia Y. I'm quite enjoying it so far!
- ArensorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is enjoyable for a lot of things but I really enjoy the actual cultivation aspect of this novel. The author has gone relatively in depth with the MCs cultivation while leaving a bit of a mystery aspect which I love. The pacing is at times awkward but generally moves along pretty swiftly and the story is usually building to something. There are a lot of really great memorable moments in the story. The characters are another strong point as you have a relatively small group of core characters that are mentioned in most chapters but each has a full backstory and motivations. Author is a bit unhinged but he pumps out two chapters a day on patreon and writes a great story so what's not to love.
- Drake_EURoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Grammar is excellent.
The MC is reasonable and realistic.
The Side Characters are decently fleshed out.
The Worldbuilding is interesting.
There are no boring parts, over the top speeches or groveling, like in other Cultivation Novels.
If you want to start reading now, do it.
What follows now is a short summary.
The Reader finds the MC living on the street, when a Cultivator comes to the town. He is drawing the Cultivators attention with his use of a special gift and ends up as his disciple.
Together they climb a mountain and meet up with a friend of MC‘s Master, during the climb the MC befriends a big kitten.
The MC learns the art of Cultivation and other things. After several years he‘s ready to go out in the world to find his own way.
He meets old friends and enemies and a name finds him.
His Master sends a protector after him, who needs some time to catch up. The MC meets an old turtle with long reaching consequences. Ends a war, meets a princess and her brother. Kills some beasts and cultivators. And needs to search for help, because of the turtle.
I intentionally left out most of the important and interesting details, to not disturb your journey through this Story. Have fun! 😉 - F.L. RileyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An orphan, starved and abused by nobles, gets a chance. A chance to serve a cultivator and for his service is taught. To read, to protect himself, maybe to cultivate?
It's hard to decide whom I like more in this novel, the MC, the ghost panther, or Uncle, but each character has an identity that draws the reader in.
This follows many of the cliches that most novels dealing with Cultivation follow, but there is an added dimension, a fresh perspective that elevates this novel from bland to engaging. - FergyB20Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Found the story on the rising stars list. I had middling hope going into chapter one. Finding something that feels fresh is the endless challenge. It exceeded all my expectations.
I like the pace, not to slow to get boring before leaving the ground, and not to fast so as to not get the chance to invest care into the characters.
The author delivers what they promised at the start again and again, letting me build trust with them as a reader even above the contents of the story. They make no promises of traditional xianxia lore but spinkle in enough terms to feel grounded in classical cultivation. Even in the MC doesnt learn about typical cultivation for a while.
Once I started, I couldn't stop. The characters feel realistic and have a depth to them we see deepen as Sen learns more of what his teachers are capable of. His horizons are broadened slowly as even his teacher underestimate how much of a true blank slate his knowledge is. Yet his own perspective and talent surprise all but him as they are his normal.
I will end with saying I am looking forward to the books and author's continued growth. Thank you. - SchusfusterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, it may be unfair, but I only bother to rate the stories that actively bring me pleasure.
This story, this wonderful cultivation tale, actively and utterly is a pleasure to read. I would not have been surprised to have found this on an actual Wuxia site, because it understands the spirit and form of the medium so well. I would put this up with Demonic Cultivator, 40 Millenia of Cultivation, and Webtoon's superb Gosu, in its approach and delightful essence of the genre.
Deep and splendidly individual characters and meditations on the nature of our participation in reality somewhat remiscent of Slumrat, this is absolutely worth diving into and exploring. - ToggRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I almost passed this one up as yet another story with a silly title thats silly/absurd/horrible in its telling (those are more common on this site than i want to comment on)... however, due to a couple good reviews i decided to give it a shot.
I'm glad i did, the story is well written, the characters are believable, and the pace is neither fast nor slow... the updates are regular and the Author goes back and makes corrections when readers point out small mistakes.. as i am fully caught up, i find myself looking forward to the next chapter.
review requires 200 words so dont read below here. - DeathwingminionRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I really like it. It's very different from the normal cultivation story. Characters were great, especially liked the MC and the ghost phanter relationship like to see more in the future for the two of them. Also really love the worldbuliding, I always find cultivation world lot more interesting with how people react if they have the power to become basically superman it they tired hard enough.
