Description

Brooke believed she'd understood the tug-of-war between entities seeking to end or save humanity. She believed in the Vanguard, heroes granted immense power via contracts with the eldritch. She believed she would have no part in any of it. Above all, she believed in a path where she could return to a semblance of normality.

She was wrong.

Follow Brooke and Roosevelt's incomprehensible journey as they contend with forces beyond her understanding. And as she delves deeper into the abyss, she'll find new allies, horrifying phobias, and a healthy respect for anything with more than two mouths.

Updates are once a week minimum, twice a week if the world is perfect, and up to four times a week if I manage to attract enough folks to my patreon that I don't need to worry so much about the job search. Any recommendations or critiques are welcome, I hope you enjoy Unfathomably Cute!

Get you some of this immersive non-LitRPG story. You will enjoy it. My biggest complaint about reading on RR is that there are so many great stories and characters that just don't make you feel like you are standing in the story as good writing should. This one does not suffer form that problem, at all. Which is ironic considering I still took a half star off for style, but let me get to that.
Style, like I said before, it just pulls you in. You feel, smell, taste, and experience the story right along with Brooke, as it should be. But, there are a few occasions where I did get a little lost because of the bold dialogue tagging which caused me to have to reread a few lines and pulled me out of the story. So maybe this should be under grammar, but eh I put it here. Still though the immersion and feel of the writing is just so good and it stays strong throughout, not just the first chapter or two.
Grammar, yeah a few things here and there but nothing to cause any issue.
Story is paced well and has lots of actions. No navel gazing, at least not that I have gotten to. Probably what I like best is how you go from 'normal' every day life about a trip to the bank and store to well, utter chaos of monsters eating people, Brooke running for her life, and all kinds of wonderful gross goodness.
The characters are distinct and you get into their emotional state so well because, as I already said, immersion. Well done.
So overall if you want an immersive, action packed, monster smashing, super power and progressing MC story then this is for you.
P.S. I secretly want to try pickles and peanut butter now just to see if it is like some wonderful thing, or if it is as disgusting as it sounds.

I like your writing style, and the story. The characters are realistic and I could relate to them, and the story has amazing and unique world-building. I can't find any error in grammar and spelling, which is good because I need it to learn the proper English (I'm not an English speaker but I like reading in English). Is it British English? I learned almost a dozen or words because it's slightly different from American English. Easily one of my favorite stories in RR, and by my favorite I mean one of the best five in my list. Two of them are ranked in single digit here. I'm sure your story would be ranked in single digit sooner or later, because you aren't only gifted, but you also work hard in writing good stories for us.

This is such an odd combination. Superpowers with adorable eldritch horrors? Not exactly what one would expect. That being said it is one of my favorite stories I have read so far. I absolutely love it. The setting is rather unique and the MC is very relatable and well developed. The writings is on point from the very beginning and the author has clearly taken their time and effort to do very effective edits. I highly recommend to all.

Had a great time reading it. I expected a horror story based on the start but it turned out to be different and it's great.
Style: It starts with a well-executed first person perspective that pulls you in the world. Mc’s interactions with roosevelt are well written and bold character makes it easier to read. I thought it would change to third per. midway but it feels the same throughout which is nice.
Story: Starts with a quick and subtle information on the world through a wholesome dialogue and then it takes off with a horror scene into the stomach. her interaction with the eldrich and the environment sets the tone of the story. the near death encounter and contract with roosevelt makes the progression thrilling, making the psychological interactions fun. The interaction with silo keeps the balance between dark scenes and a bit of humor, which I like in any stories with ‘psychological’ tags.
Grammar: Pretty good and follows the same tense often which doesn’t break the engagement.
Characters: The characters are well defined, their emotions and feelings are shown with their actions instead of just writing a paragraph about it. The dialogue keeps the readers engaged and makes readers feel close to the characters. Also, the names are memorable so that’s a plus. Her journey as a vanguard and her interactions are well written.

I agreed to read this story for a review swap. I thought I'd read 5-7 chapters to get a good feel and leave an honest review. I'm 28 chapters in and only stopping because I have to. This is a great story. Definitely will appeal to "Super Supportive" fans, but it's definitely its own thing.
Superheroes with cthulhu-based powers? Sign me up!
I thought the first chapter was opening slowly until BAM suddenly it wasn't. And the pace just doesn't let up after that. I'm breathless reading it. No wonder the author keeps reminding readers to hydrate. This story takes you by the throat and doesn't let go.
Style - the only thing I don't like about this story is that it's present tense. This is a personal thing but I feel like the story would be stronger in past tense. However I keep forgetting it's in present, which is a sign of how well written.
Grammar - a few tiny nitpicks that can be cleaned up easily, nothing to throw you out of the story.
Character - Brooke is awesome and the supporting cast is great. I can't wait to see where things go. I love Roosevelt, he's delightful and has wonderful voice. The difference between supporting characters -- Catherine is distinct from Naomi is distinct from everyone else. Well done, unique voices for each.
Story - I am completely hooked. A post-apocalyse world with superheroes fighting a losing, rear-guard action while ordinary people try to live despite regular attacks by monstrous forces. It's so well done and unlike anything I've read before.
    Read this story. It's awesome.

I rarely give out 5/5 across the board, but this honestly makes the cut. The author does a really nice job of taking time with their work to put out quality, professional content.
Style: I'm personally a fan of past tense in writing, but the author sold me on their use of present tense. I think it's difficult to do well, but when it's done well, it gives the reader a much more present sense of being in the action with the character. While reading, I felt like I was there with Brooke and her bizarre experiences. The writing is smooth and flows easily and carries a distinctive voice that comes across easily.
Grammar: I didn't notice any issues whatsoever. I tend to be a bit forgiving with grammar, only docking people if it's really bad, but in this case I didn't notice a single mistake all the way through, which is rare (I know I find stuff constantly in my own writing)
Story: This story is kinda wild to be honest. It starts off with this cute beginning where we're introduced to this quaint family and their love of ice-cream, and then quickly devolves into a very bizarre adventure. It's one of the more unique plotlines and the author does a good job moving things alone. The chapters are relatively short, so each one moves the plot along at a rapid pace. I definitely wouldn't call this story a slow burn, it's more like a one second count before blastoff and then it doesn't really stop burning.
Characters: I like Brooke. I'll admit I'm biased, because that's my partner's name, but the author does a really good job of painting a really compelling character that feels real. The present tense grammar sells it even further. I don't want to give spoilers, but the other MC is witty and humorous in a dark but lovable way and synthesized nicely into the story.
I would happily recommend this to anyone looking for a fast-paced quirky story with likable characters. I'd also just like to acknowledge that the author's notes do a lot for the story. They provide polls, shout-outs, and

I never thought someone could succesfully write something so spooky and cute at the same time!
The characters are so interesting, the plot is intriguing and the world overall gives the vibe of being one step away from hell somehow.
I think the point that took my attention the most was the enemies. Real scary haha. You never know what to expect!
The MC is lovely and wholesome yet at the same time pretty cool. Her interactions don't feel forced or weird at all.
I'm glad i came across this little gem.

    style:
the story is told from a 1st person perspective and the author knows how to use it to its full advantage, allowing the main character's personality to grab the readers’ attention, as they get full access to her stream of consciousness. i found myself able to easily connect with the main character, brooke, through this and root for her as she tries to navigate her life in this post-apocalyptic world.
the prose itself is brilliant and well-crafted, which is seen through the balance between the body horror and action scenes, as well as the quieter and funnier moments of respite where the relationship between brooke and roosevelt really shines. everything is easy to read and easy to follow and can really hook the reader to want to read more.
    story:
while a common pitfall for these types of stories is to overload the reader with lore and word-building, the author does an incredible job of introducing key information at a reasonable pace, painting a vivid picture of this world and how it’s adapted to dealing with an apocalyptic event that occurred 10-years prior to the story.
and yet, with how bleak the world may be, there is a sense of hope in the writing, that i can help but adore. with references to how the city rebuilt itself, to how brooke interacts with her family, i can't help but enjoy immersing myself in the story and keep reading.
and speaking of the story, the plot so far has been very enjoyable to read. starting off in a fast pace and high-tension manner, before slowing down as the characters reflect and recover from what had happened, is a great way to allow the readers to breathe as well. this is often something that i prefer in my stories and it made this very engaging to read.
    grammar:
i’m not sure if i should comment on grammar as i still make many mistakes myself, but i did notice some grammar issues here and there, which is why i couldn’t give it the full 5 stars, but they were very minor and did not take away from my reading experience at all.

First of all, I need to thank the author for the hydration.
    Now on to the review!
White the author takes some inspiration from MGG by Mikasane (the greatest), it quickly becomes apparent that this is a separate story that can absolutely stand on its own. Superheroes backed by the Lovecraftian horrors we all know and love… need I say more? Because I will.
From the first chapter, we are entranced by the author’s style and word choices. The tension grabs the reader and doesn’t let go. I feel like I read it in one breath and all I could say was ‘Wow’ at the end. The words flow and leave you mad that the chapters have an end, as all you want is to read more. Fortunately, at this point, there is plenty to read.
The main character is another huge positive. We have a bubbly, lovable, and unrelenting girl whose life is suddenly thrown in a very strange direction. We also get a glimpse of her family and her place among them, making us instantly connect.
The other characters are nothing to scoff at either. Each is their unique person and has a voice – even those characters that have (at the time of this review) only passed by. Roosevelt is simply brilliantly written and a great way to slowly introduce readers to more of the world and what it means to be a Vanguard. Learning along with the MC is always fun.
What I am very excited about is seeing in which way the pretty unique growth system (no spoilers) will take the story. It's promising a lot of fun!
I have found zero issues with the grammar. I can see that the author has edited a lot of the chapters I have read so far, which is proof of commitment and growth.
The story is a strange mixture of horror, action, and dare I say it… slice-of-life? I don’t know how to describe it differently. It just works.
    Try it out.
