- CrystalLily1302Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The reincarnation element and the continuity of powers between lives lends a slightly different take on the "regaining my lost powers after reincarnation" especially with this being the third time in this world for the protagonist. I quite like the initial direction and the magic system seems very interesting even if the mind body soul trichotomy is a bit tired (it does work for a reason though).
- FlameCabbageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story so far. The beginning was very powerful and intriguing. With the mystery of how she ended the world the previous times, plus the drama of the present, and there's a lot to keep your attention in this story. Having gone back in time multiple times is also very intriguing as well, and makes me eager to learn not only about her past life, but the life before that as well.
The system "Keeper" that Ember has is also very interesting. The unique visual aspect of it makes it a nice change of pace compared to the floating game windows stories with game-like systems go for.
Ember herself seems like a very complex and compelling character as well. She was clearly very powerful and successful before, but has regrets and failed in the end. It will be interesting to see how she will go about this third chance and what she will change from her 'Tyrant' life. - One Way JusticeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: Ai, straight into the action with a gut-wrenching scene! Already we’ve got conflict and a slight bit (or more) of betrayal on p 1 (alright, that’s all the spoilers you get our of me!). A strong hook, which is so vital with web novels where you want to immediately grab the reader’s attention, and keep them invested for what comes next. It’s a dark fantasy, this one (if that wasn’t already clear), with rich lore and worldbuilding that immediately set it apart from many other novels in its genre—it feels in a sense authentic.
Characters: Ember is just the right amount of introspective; it does not get overbearing, but does add a very nice touch to her character—she reflects on the morality of the world and her place in it... she is troubled by some of the more harrowing things, and rightly so. This makes it easy to feel some empathy for her, and root for her as a reader.
The side characters have a slightly more one-dimensional flair (but that may change later on): Patricia and Rowan, for instance, seem to me to fit somewhat the same role of innocent bystanders (and are thus seen as righteous, for without fault).
Style: Fluid, if a bit barebones style of prose, but with good variation in sentence cadence. Very readable. Descriptive and introspective elements quite on point.
Grammar: Good. Could maybe use some more punctuation (commas) for clarity at times. - ZagarothRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I just binged it and greatly enjoyed it, so now to analyze it, this might be a bit rambling.
Style:
Clean prose in the third person, descriptive enough to be evocative without being overly verbose or flowery. I like it.
PoV is 95% on the main character, with only a few exceptions when they were really needed.
Grammar:
Mostly good with an occasional typo, less than one per chapter that I am seeing.
Story:
This is where it gets interesting. We have a mystery, a time loop, a revenge story, a protecting family story, a wee hint of a potential future romance when they are both older, some ethical and moral challenges, and some practical problem-solving; there's a lot going on! And I'm here for it!
Character:
This shines even more than the story, though it needs the story/plot in order to be given the chance to shine.
Our MC has a troubled past and is trying to make this loop better and is certainly being hampered by both her young body and brain and by a certain amount of arrogance because she can not currently rely on the skills she used to use.
She and most of the important members of the cast have well developed personalities and feel very much like real people. The ones who are not yet well developed have some hints of how they will develop in the future. The author can only show so much at a time after all, the story has just begun! - UnmatchedSocksRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Starts out a bit slow but honestly it's getting there. When I ran out of chapters I was shocked to see how invested I was. I am hyped to see where this is going and if the author can keep it together it should be a fucking phenomenal story. You could probably skim the early chapters if you want. It's a time loop story and that needs set up but if you seen it once you've seen it. I wouldn't fully skip them cuz there's a good amount of world building there that's pretty important once the story starts coming into its own.
- jadecriminalRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So this one is decently written as reflected in the score but I won't be coming back to it.
The world sucks. Nobles can get away with rape and murder. Daughters are property and can get sold legally. To be raped to death by a sadist for example.
No one asks questions.
I understand that this is all a set up for killing them all and burning the earth but honestly this feels like it will be an exercise in frustration with no catharsis.
The story so far can be summarized as Ember loses, even when she wins. Always.
Also she literally has the cruciatus curse as one of her powers which corrupts her soul every time she uses it. She sees no problems with that.
That cannot possibly go wrong.
