To Become a Troll: A Monster Evolution Story

Description
Thrust into the supernatural world of the deep forest, Paul finds himself in a situation where he could find himself prey to pretty much every other creature and animal around. If he's to survive, he must shed his weak form to grow stronger and survive.
But the forest is full of creatures beyond human understanding, that act without the need for food or shelter and that seem to exist for the sole purpose of dragging humans to the bottom of a murky river. Is it really possible to kill such creatures when your only strength is physical prowess?
---
A monster evolution story based on Swedish creature mythology. The focus will overwhelmingly be on the progression of the main character and his slow increase in strength. Although many of the creatures are based on Swedish creature mythology, I have taken creative liberties in order to ensure that evolution lines and the such are in line with the usual.
The main thought I had when going into this is that I want to delay the "meeting a human" section as much as possible. My plan is to get him to endgame levels of strength before even sniffing the possibility of seeing a human. Whether I'm actually able to do this remains to be seen, but I'm holding my thumbs!
Also, I'm aware that there are other troll evolution stories, but this is unrelated to them. They can do their stuff and I'll do mine, but this is in no way related to any of them.
That said, hope you enjoy it!

- LordallRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has the piece of progression I seeing the best monster music stories. The main character starts at the bottom and does everything he can to rise up the food chain. When the main character gets his powers they are reasonably on his level and doesn't give him an unatrul advantage. Although he was very quick to the monster mindset I think people underestimate what people do when there are released from the shackles of society. I look forward to seeing how our little monster progresses.

Palt, I notice as a long time reader, seems to prefer a first person perspective, stream of consciousness style for his works, and To Become a Troll is not an exception. It can make for somewhat interesting reading when heated situations occur, but by it's very nature the downtime of his novels tend to be uninteresting. By no fault of the author, I add, as I generally find that SOC writing needs to be chock full of characterisation to be interesting to read, and Palt prefers to keep his protag's minds uniform, as forward and determined as he can, as well as a little bit demented. That being said, there is very little downtime within the novel, so the more shallow observations of the protag can be
Arguably, this also the case for the aforementioned stream of consciousness being weighed down by reading somewhat uninteresting/shallow thoughts . I am yet to interact with a wholly interesting protag on this site, let alone the Isekai genre, so again the author cannot really be blamed, and I do appreciate how Palt uses his POV's to write amusing tirades and thoughts for his characters.
That being said, I gave their style a 2.5 due to this not really outweighing how consistently annoying I found it, as it did not really introduce any depth to the character, and eventually it developed into something quite boring to slog through as a pasenger in their mind.
Grammar
Nothing noticable in English, and I cannot confidently correct any of the Scandinavian as I am not a fluent reader or speaker. I will say, Palt seems to have managed to infuse this work with a very nice blend of folklore from the latter, and the naming sense is both a work of this and what I assume is a degree of competence in the language. Overall, no complaints, and borrowing from another language helped to make things far more interesting. Five stars, although the placing/volume of exclamation marks could be tweaked here and there.

Not cool.
I wish the mice could've been omitted or just left alone. I wish the mice weren't brutally stamped into the ground. I give the 2.5 rating because it was a great read until the mice. I can't stand the idea of justifying brutal murder
