Description
Part II is coming in June 2026!
Have you ever woken up and felt like you were dead? That’s exactly how Mioray felt when he regained consciousness in a hospital morgue, with no memory of how he got there.
Not long ago, a serial killer had appeared in the city, dismembering victims and scattering their body parts across town, except for their left arms, which were never found.
Mioray, too, had lost his left arm. But that wasn’t all. His body was covered in stitched wounds, running across his right arm, both legs, and even his neck. By all logic, he shouldn’t be alive. And yet, he was.
Unable to explain what happened to him - and with the police eager to interrogate him - Mioray tries to move on, determined to live his life as if nothing had happened.
But fate has other plans. One day, he and his friends are attacked by a monstrous madman, one who can detonate his own body at will…

- mrcbooksRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I’ll start with what works well, then offer a few light suggestions for polish.
What worked well:
Body Horror and Psychological Dread: The gradual discovery of stitches, missing arm, and morgue setting builds visceral unease effectively; Mioray's detached numbness and inner voice create a chilling "not quite alive" atmosphere.
Protagonist Confusion and Voice: Mioray's spiraling speculation (prank? accident? zombies?) feels authentic to shock and denial, blending humor (toga philosopher) with mounting terror for relatable horror.
Sensory and Atmospheric Details: Cold lighting, metallic clatter, numb sensations, and sterile isolation immerse readers in the morgue's uncanny wrongness, amplifying isolation and suspense.
Cliffhanger Ending: The nurse's scream caps escalating irony and panic perfectly, hooking with implications of pursuit or revelation.
Light suggestions:
Reduce repetitive speculation loops: Multiple cycles of panic/denial (prank, accident, zombies) and self-correction slow momentum; condensing a few would heighten urgency without losing disorientation.
Tighten awkward/run-on phrasing: Long sentences in introspection (e.g., nightmare analogy, pain descriptions) could vary length for better rhythm and impact.
Polish minor inconsistencies/typos: Small issues (title capitalization, repeated "for one" phrasing) and echoed ideas (numbness, painkillers) would benefit from smoothing for professionalism.
Heighten sensory specificity in key beats: Lingering slightly longer on physical detachment (e.g., puppet-like control) could deepen the uncanny horror.
Overall: A gripping body-horror opener that excels in psychological unraveling and morgue dread, blending existential panic with dark irony for a compelling Frankenstein vibe. Mioray's voice carries the confusion authentically, ending on a sharp hook—promising start with strong atmospheric chills.
