Description
A legendary landmass long since believed lost to the world reappears in the seas of the island nation of Annitou, setting off a frantic race by the surrounding governments to acquire its allegedly powerful secrets. From every corner of the map comes settlers, merchants, pirates, and the strongest enforcers of each country's sovereignty: the Agents, individuals with unique, sometimes seemingly divine talents which can rival the power of even an army. However on the lawless frontier of the newly rediscovered island of Jinchi, national loyalties and personal ambition are put to the real test.
Threads follows the interconnected stories of individuals from all strata of this world, from the lowly in-training cadets, to the mighty and seemingly invincible generals, to the otherwise innocuous and 'powerless' civilians. Each person holds a piece of the puzzle- but nobody can say how it will ultimately be put together.

- OrbInAirRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An adventure/mystery with a large cast, each character distinct and credible. Everyone’s motives are still being revealed, as of the writing of this review (ch19), but their motivations, personalities, ability levels, and backstories are incredibly diverse. Every character is a fascinating and an essential component to the story, and I cannot pick a favourite.
The story has a personable, opinionated narrator, whose comments add colour and humour to a very action-focused narrative. The pacing is slow but steady, each chapter giving some new hint or added depth, building up to an eventual grand reveal (and, if the story so far is anything to go by, an eventual grand combat?).
Grammar-wise, the only errors are so small they're not even worth noting. Some people don't like an opinionated omniscient narrator and might consider that a flaw, but I find it an excellent stylistic choice.
The plot itself so far seems a classic enough hunt-for-the-MacGuffin, set in a well fleshed-out fictional world. The characters from the various nations represent their different cultures well, and each personality quirk seems to rise quite naturally from the given background of that character. In other words, the characters make clear sense within their world, and don’t feel like puppets shoe-horned into behaving a certain way for ‘plot reasons’ – even during the most over-the-top fantastical moments, people behave in a believable way by their world’s standards.
