Description

(Futuristic, Post Apocalyptic, Dark But Also Amusing, Hunter Killer Robots, Super Powered Humans, Capes, Cyborgs, World War Four, Butter Fries, Battles Galore)

In 2013 Kevin took a gig as a test subject at NeoCryoICT, a government subsidized cryogenic sleep laboratory. He didn't know they were playing with peoples brains like macaroni art and calling it "progress". Fortunately he slept through all that… Never felt a thing. Then World War Three started, an apocalypse happened, and two hundred years of World War Four raged on while he was still asleep in his box. He's awake now. Lucky lucky Kevin. Yea. Except World War Four is still on, and it’ssuperhuman vssuperhuman vsmachineout there…. Every. Single. Day.

Now that Kevin is awake, the violence has only escalated. The world is circling the drain again. The thing is, this story isn't all about Kevin, even though the rest of the world seems to think so. I think you may be the key to everything, if you can even hear me. Can you hear me? If you can, you need to listen carefully.

My name is Kevin, by the way.

Rip and tear, until it is done.
Style: is riddled with comedy. Witty sarcasm is the name of the game here and I can really appreciate the lengths that the author has taken to stick with delivering his laughs, doing good on his original premise. First person really lends well to this style as well, as it feeds directly into characterization.
Grammar: is good. It's really well polished and I noticed no grammatical mistakes during my read. Good job to the author.
Story: is interesting so far. The premise itself is enough to draw people who are interested in fun stories. I am skeptical as to if this'll be a comedy series through and through or one with a comedic presentation and otherwise more serious story. Either way, good intrigue is set from the get-go and the sound of world war four hints at a story on a really grand scale which I would love to see more stories do. I believe the author will deliver well on their promises.
Character: is also fairly strong. Kevin definitely carries it, yet I can't expect much else from a story written in first person. The side cast you're introduced to so far are also very likeable, albeit since the story is early days, I can't sign off a five star. Still, really strong and very good first impressions.
Overall: RIP AND TEAR BEGINS PLAYING

Sleeping through two and being a "levitator."
This is a witty and impeccably written with a deliberately informal style, a thus-far-delightful romp that promises to go somewhere quite clever. The story seems like it's moving quite quickly without leaving the reader behind, which is nice. It hasn't arrived there yet, but we've seen glimpses and good foreshadowing, and that's what's fair to say at this point in the story.
Pacing is good. The story avoids infodumping unnaturally because the protagonist (narrator) had no clue what was going on, although he slips a little and lets through some of what he knows now at the time of the recounting.
The characters seem well-conceived. It's challenging to give numbered characters personality, but it's there. I'm staying tuned to see what comes next, at least for a few more chapters, and you probably should as well. There are some pop culture (movie) references; they're not out of place, but if that's one of your pet peeves, you might skip this one.
Grammar is solid. This is well-written or at least well-edited - I didn't notice mistakes along the way, and I usually do - but the distinctive voice of the protagonist hasn't been erased by automatic restyling to the most standardized language possible.

This story shines in both the premise and the writing---I was very impressed with both. The writing style has an interesting edge of being serious material-wise while maintaining a light-hearted, and, usually, hilarious overall vibe. I believe it’s the personality of the main character shining through, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The story is a mix of action and questions/intrigue---both which I love reading. You’ll have just as many questions as Kevin, the main character, as you begin to read, but that is what kept me clicking that ‘next’ button. I wanted to find out what was going on! Five out of five stars for keeping me on the edge of my seat!
I didn’t see any glaring grammatical errors or anything that kept me from my enjoyment of the story. In fact, like I mentioned, the writing is a main plus of this work. Dialogue comes off as natural, clever and witty while a snappier writing style keeps the action moving along really nicely. I’d, also, mention that the characters really came off as likeable and distinct. Kudos to the author---I feel they have so much talent in all of the places I mentioned. I would highly recommend this story.

So far loving these first couple chapters of this story!! There is humor injected by the narration and it pulls you in with action early on. I cant wait to find out who Kevin ends up being. I really like the perspective of him looking back and telling us the story of what happens to the world when he wakes up. And then obviously needing to learn about what had happened while he was asleep. Lots of vivid descriptions allow me to picture what is happening. I cant wait to read more!!!

[Disclaimer]: This is part of a review swap.
Thee Kevin Awakens is a weird story, but a great story nonetheless.
A superhero story with a protagonist tat got had by the government and used in secret experiments. It isn't the first time this premise appears, but it is a topic few have touched in Royal Road.
As a superhero author, I am particularly fond of every story with heroes and villains on it. Now, the main difference with this story in particular is: heroes aren't just fighting against villains, they are an elite part of the force that is trying to save the world.
There is a Terminator vibe that suits the story fantastically as well.
As for the writing style, it well-written, easy to read yet serious and engrossing enough that you will find yourself immersed in the setting. Combined with the good premise and excellent execution, I can honestly say this is an excellently written superhero story.
