Description

Phaedra didn't expect to be summoned to another world and become its hero, but she tried her best. She certainly didn't want to be stuck in a boy's body while she did it, but she didn't give up. She most definitely didn't want to die in the end, torn apart by the very demon she had been called to destroy. She thought her journey was done, a failure who couldn't save the world she'd been called to protect.

Perhaps most unexpected of all, at least to her, was being reborn as the very daughter of the Demon Lord who had killed her. Now a sheep demon, the sole child of Fenrir, the Wolf. She's not sure what this means, what duties are still expected of her or what this means to her former allies. But when the chance comes to save a former ally of hers, she has no choice but to risk everything in order to save her. Perhaps together they can even find out what is going on in this world and why she was reborn at all. Assuming she can prove that she is more than just The Wolf's Daughter.

This story offers a fresh, character-driven take on the Hero Isekai genre with great pacing, characterization, and power system. The worldbuilding is narrow rather than expansive, intentionally so to make room for focus on those characters; plot is driven very much by relationships and character growth, a rarity on this website and all the fresher for it.
Many of the central themes are identity-centric, a huge plus for me personally, but it also has, so far, some good exploration of systems of power and social dynamics. It's also quite cute for those drawn to that aesthetic, further exemplified by contrast with other narrative and character details.
Minimal number-go-up action in this story, which I personally think is a plus, and I'd recommend it to anyone who's open to a more complex story.

I'm going to preface this review by stating that I have purchased the full first book from Amazon and read it entirely.
In the interest of avoid spoilers, I will be being vague.
Melody has an energy to her writing, present in all her works, that I'd describe as cozy, or cute, or squishy. It primarily extends from her strong focus on character driven narratives. Which I consider to be a strong point in her writing, and something she appears to gleefully exploit within every work.
This is exceptionally true for the first book of this series. We follow Phaedra, a tragic Isekai protagonist dealt a hand of confusing twists and trying to figure out what she needs to do. She's shown to be a cute, complex character struggling with unnatural trauma, torn between a past and a future that seems wildly at odds with one another.
Because she has such a fantastic supporting framework in her design, she works as an excellent springboard for the very character focused, and driven, narrative that takes shape. Every major character, and even a wealth of minor characters, we meet is given a life, and allowed to be multifaceted inside of their roles. It's well delivered, and critical to give the narrative the weight it needs to encourage readership.
Much of the fascinating world building is looped into the narrative of Phaedra's previous life, which helps give life to what other authors might deliver as flat exposition, and helps convince the reader to be more invested by virtue of it's tie-ins with the plot itself.
Really, all this to say (TLDR): Wolf's Daughter is a strong, character driven story done remarkably well. If you're looking for enjoyable, cute characters struggling in a high fantasy world setting, this is an excellent work I'd highly recommend.
