In May, 1899, a hundred and fifty unassuming envelopes are delivered to households across the city. Most of them will be picked up by butlers and carried on silver trays to their recipients. All of them contain invitations to the wedding of Lady Eleanor Serrs to Mr. Ryce Penn. When the newspapers hear about it, they start buzzing. Who can blame them? This would be the wedding of the century! She’s the daughter of Duke Erravold Aubrey-Serrs, and the Marvelous Mr. Penn is one of the most famous men in the country. But Penn is famous for being the city’s most notorious thief. He’s an unrepentant attention-seeker with a taste for gems and danger. And Eleanor swears that she’s never met him. Chief Inspector Lucas Haley, Penn’s long-time nemesis, is called in to protect the Aubrey-Serrs family and try to figure out what the master thief is planning. He’ll need all his experience and tenacity for this case, as it quickly becomes obvious more is at stake than the reputation of an innocent woman.

but it’s a wonderful read - great characters, well-paced, engaging and endearing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it left me with a smile on my face. It’s really worth reading

I never thought I would love this story so much. It's truly brilliant, original, and marvelous.
This is a detective story set in an alternate London. There's no fantasy or litlrpg here, but the author has still managed to work its magic and make it wonderful.

Definitely filled that nostalgic itch for a mystery novel that gets the imagination going. I don't usually review stories but this one just had to have me show how much I have appreciated this one.

This is a rather fun mystery story with a splash of romance. The characters each have great personalities. I was very impressed by the dialogue all through it as it all feels natural and there are laughs to be had! There are some wonderful cliff hangers but as the book is complete you don't need to wait to find out.

Did not guess the whodunnit in advance (possibly because I don't read detective novels that frequently), but it makes perfect sense in retrospect, as does the slight withholding of crucial info from the reader.

This is a charming and engaging mystery romp through Victorian England in the universe of Sherlock Holmes, though Sherlock never shows up.
It is an absolute joy.
The characters are written with wonderful voice. And the plot is intricate and totally appropriate. This is a lovely story and completely satisfying.
