Advanced alien technology is rewarded for every victory, and even allies are incentivized to betray their former partners for a chance to remake the world in their image. In a place filled with advanced alien technology, fantastical monsters, warring factions, and a countdown to destruction, success is anything but guaranteed. As a System Envoy, Aidan has been given a mission: Build a coalition, unite the planet before the countdown runs out, and prepare to defend the Earth from the other species in the galaxy who have been successfully assimilated.
This isn't the world's deadliest game. It's a System.

- BALROGBOOGIERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Extremely good story with mysteries in every corner and excitement everywhere, i get hyped every new chapter, either about the Towns upgrade, or the personal upgrades. It all feels very well put together. The best thing must be the unique system, and unique world.
Couldnt recommend a story on this site more than this one.
Only complain is i would like some small, short interlude pov chapters of other important characters to get a better feel for the power dynamic
Amazing work, Cheers. - NShredderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reviewed at chapter 1.22
First I'll explain why I believe it's a mix before getting into the subheadings. The MC soon finds himself in a "final frontier" (that may change as the story develops) where suddenly new exploration opportunities, new cultures open up available to people*.
The MC has access to futuristic weapons and technology (skinsuits, laser weapons, fabricators) while interacting with interacting with fantasy races (1 so far and a few mentioned) at a discount Walmart isekai (because they're still on Earth).
*Terms and conditiond may apply to the people getting access to said Isekai experience.
Style 5/5
Why? Style is more than just alliteration, the style used is crisp, clean. It's also not anything more than it needs to be, the author doesn't go into tangents of random detail like the ramblings of a five year old (and this review). The story flows without interruption, pauses, and increases the pace naturally allowing you to feel immersed in the story that's being written (in which I deman more).
Story 4.5/5
The biggest plothole I've found is that it feels like a grunt is friends with an officer (a colonel, c'mon man, we all know colonels aren't people. They're above God). What I mean feels like is that beyond being able to delegate roles to other people the main character is taking a reactive/passive role in leadership style, I'm not sure on how to really explain this, an absence of detail in his leadership strategy? He didn't conduct an O=Group that takes two hours? Rather than an ex-major it's more like a doorkicker got thrown upwards in rank. That same colonel is now taking a step back and taking orders from that person.
The second is the question if how Camp Plymouth came to be, did the first Pioneer(trademarked) Team to visit The New World have equipment already given to them or did they re-enact the Primitive Survival YouTube guy until they got a fabricator, in which case it was a Minecraft Survival Speedrun?
The main issue is that there's not - TranquilClawsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My first impression of this story is that it is extremely well-polished, with a lot of thought put into the characters and the world(s) they live in. The author makes big juicy narrative promises to us readers and backs them up with the skill of a very experienced writer. I expect this to be the kind of story I will cherish and remember for years.
If you like sci-fi, read it. If you like military fiction, read it. If you like the system genre, read it. And finally, if you like good speculative fiction, read it.
You will find a nuanced perspective into the US military structure and culture, a thriving space-age universe, dialogue that might just bring you a smile, and stakes that are no less than the future of the human race placed under an ominous countdown. - angrybirdzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't usually read sci-fi but I truly am enjoying this story. I'm happy I decided to branch out. It's well written and interesting. Grammar is spot on. The style is realistic and thought provoking. Even though it's fiction, Assimilation feels like something that could actually happen in real life. From the government suppressing information from civilians to the way that the military characters behave and interact with each other. Details from the real world are accurate, which is much appreciated. The plot is multi-faceted. Author does a great job of setting the scene and smoothly transitions through the story. I've caught myself laughing at various parts so far. The humor is sprinkled in perfectly throughout the story. The pacing is perfect. The main character is intelligent, capable, and wise. It's refreshing to enjoy a story where you’re not begging the characters to stop making bad choices. He's also likeable, even though he's not someone I personally relate to (I'm 20F, impulsive, etc & main character is in his 40s, reserved, precise, thorough). I enjoy watching (figuratively watching, lol) Aidan go through his day pre-system and then also his decision making once everything changes. He isn't the only interesting character though. The AI, Astra, is surprisingly playful even though she's AI and means serious business when it comes to helping Aidan. The characters he meets in the system are from different origins but come together beautifully. Their personalities seem well thought out and I think that's what makes the writing so good. The characters are engaging and interesting, their agendas and personalities are so true to them, it feels like the story is practically writing itself. I'm can't wait to read the rest!!!
- jskleinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really enjoying the story so far. If you like litrpg, science fiction, military fiction, or all three then I highly recommend this book. A lot of world building, great story, character development is a little on the slow side, but not bad. Again I recommend this series without reservations.
- theodiciesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very well written mix of Litrpg and military action. I particularly enjoy the hint of mystery and "through the looking glass" questions about reality. The story is internally consistent with believable characters. Skill growth is rapid but the MC is not an asshole - which is a bonus in my opinion.
- Johnymac2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well done, well written.
The character actually feels his age, 40ish, adult, mature, with some wisdom and real experience. Too many times a supposedly adult MC in their 30s-40s acts and sounds like a 15 to 20 year old kid.
Writting is clean, no typos, formatting issues, pacing issues.
Only complaint is that there are only 3 chapters so far after 6 days of being up on RR... :-) Feed me!!!! Moar! - Mini 14Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a really well done story, sure there are some grammar issues but very well thought out and from the eyes of someone who served in Afghanistan I love the fact that he was able to mix the sci-fi fantasy with real problems in current day america.
The beginning was slow and hard for me not going to lie, but when it picks up it is beautifully done. I love the thought of the system and everything. I wish book two was on RR but thanks for the book anyway. - TinyBookDragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Only 4 chapters out as I'm writing this but you can tell it's going to be good. The grammar is pretty much perfect. Interesting premise. Characters feel fleshed out even with such a small amount of screen time. The pacing is perfect, or at least it's good for what I like. Wish I could binge-read the whole thing.
- TheEarlofBronzeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Edited review: my original review had a harsh but accurate critique of an easy-but-critical mistake in the storytelling. Not only did the author respond well to the critiques, but edited and revised those chapters I'm such a way as to make an entire mini-arc go from excruciating to perfectly acceptable. I take my hat off, humility and action are rare to see these days.
I have high hopes for this novel, it's got good premise and world building and decent if straight forward characters. There's great potential for lots of intrigue and some fun fantasy/sci-fi crosses which scratch a particular itch.
Overall I definitely recommend checking this out. I look forward to adding this to my favorites and bumping up my rating. (Mission accomplished)
