- Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I feel like this story should start somewhere else, plot wise. I have no idea who the characters are, or what they're talking about, but I am getting a vibe that they are talking about something important and that I should know what that is.
I think this story could benefit from a cinematic scene what explains the ongoing war, or a prologue which follows the MC or some othercharacter as they navigate said war or its effects. - JFrog55Royal Road★★★ 2.5This opening was just hard to read. It's a lot of thoughts and exposition all at once without any thought to smooth dialogue or inner contemplation. Some serious attempts at being excessively edgy and mysterious but it just comes off as stilted and awkward. A lot of over-explanation and exposition dump all at once, and it feels like the author is trying to speedrun an entire novel in the opening chapters.
Style: 2/5
It's an odd style and I'm not a fan. The summoned MC has this weird penchant for overexplaining everything, almost as if the author wants them to seem omniscient or mysterious, but it just comes off as obnoxious and edgy.
Story: 2.5/6
Could be good, could be bad, no idea. Gave it average score as a placeholder in case I ever read more.
Grammar: 3/5
Seemed decent, but there were some inconsistencies in the first few chapters. At least one run-on, a few dialogues that didn't sense, and a homophone mistake.
Character: 2.5/5
Honestly kinda seemed like caricatures of good and angsty respectively, but maybe they grow. Average score as placeholder.
I prefer to write more about my reviews, but it's rare that I get barely two chapters in and can't keep reading. For all I know this could improve drastically, but the style really hurt my enjoyment. It was jarring and weird, and just not for me. Too much poorly executed third-person as well, in retrospect.
