The Story Mage [LitRPG, Kingdom Building and Politics]

Description

Have you heard of this thing called plot armor? The thing where falling off a cliff gives you an inheritance, and wounds to the heart are good for you. That is the power of Story. That is the power I want.

The power I need to survive.

I had the luck to transmigrate into a side character. Not the good kind where I was born rich and could enjoy life. I got the kind where my father thinks of me only as a tool, and where my brother wants to kill me.

If I continued like this, I would die just like in the original story. And I could not have that. I had to fight back, use what I knew to get ahead. I needed plot armor.

And I knew just how to get it.

- weak to strong

-mc starts off as afraid and pushed around by circumstances. That changes.

- a gradual kingdom building.

If you are looking for a book with an interesting magic system, this is the one, now I can't spoil anything, but do note that the book does follow the isekaid trope, but, it follows it well enough to make it interesting and different enough to not be predictable give this a read.

I am always up for novels with Protagonists that are doomed to be get fu–ahem, screwed over. And the MC of this one is even aware of that fact.
This one's not filled with those dizzying amount of details you would see in some of the novels out there. It's pretty minimalistic in terms of it. And that's why I said it's not stressful.
It got the most unique mana system I've seen out of all the novels, I've read. It turns out the mana thinks and is affected by emotions. I haven't read any with emotions affecting mana yet. This one's my first in that... I forgot to tell you, it's not only the mana that thinks, read and find out what else does.
So far, there has been only one proper fight, and that wasn't bad. I am interested for what kind of fight scene would we get to read about when he has more (proper) power.
The part about him using the power of story... it is subtle, as he just recently got it, but is present.
I will keep this review short as it's still in its early chapters. But I can say that this one shows promise.
(I'll update this review as this novel progresses.)

Fun novel, really interesting premise, great characters and characterization, what's not to love! The magic system looks great at first glance, and I love isekai so it was fun to see it here. A classic isekai-d into the villainess plot, but make the mc male, add in a fun magic system and some gods, and you have this!

The story of this book has been captivating, even if it's within an established trope. Guy got isekai-d into a world where he's a second-rated character about to be killed off? Way better than power-tripping stories in my book. The POV character has a great voice to him and seems to be likeable so far. It makes the narration very enjoyable.
At least this MC has knowledge that he's garbo and knows enough about the book he's got transmigrated into to carve out a path to success. But not without help!
This book has a very clever way of introducing the System. The System exists because the great entities in this universe allow it to! That's the one thing I love the most about this book. And the system notifications have sass to them. Good stuff.
Grammar-wise, there are some mistakes, but nothing distracting. Commenters have pointed out and I'm sure the author will get around and fix them.
I will update my review as I read along, but so far it's been my jam. The only thing I'd like to see is more distinct character vibes and maybe changing speech patterns for certain characters, say Rowan or Elena. The fight scenes are alright, could be better I suppose. But my main focus is on the awesome system, so it doesn't take away much. Good luck to the author and keep it up!

Many times i read a novel where i need to slow down to understand the words and jargon used in the story . This story’s simplicity is its complexity early on it’s feels cliche then fully throws it out of the window with the introduction of story magic . Also I like the magic system so far even though it’s still slightly confusing .
Confusing in the sense that dark magic can be used to heal but not the same way as Beneathe the dragon eye moons. Somehow dark magic healed once due to the effect of story magic which is weird
the character feels relatable as he really did not want to be in this world but now that story magic has appeared he does all he can to survive .Lots of world building so far and I’m still lost in the grandiose of this world . Genuinely barely have any information as to the strength of people in general as the MC and Us the readers are learning together as he tries to escape this small place .
Grammar is good as well nothing detrimental so far .
i would recommend so far it’s really enjoyable looking to see how the author takes this story .

The main character doesn’t really do anything himself it feels to me. Every single thing he does he was pushed into, with no goals or desires himself beyond not dying. That’s even a plot point as of the chapter I’m on, the problem is that doesn’t change the fact that it’s uninteresting to read a story from the pov of someone with no goals, desires, or even connection to anyone else. If he at least made friends or any type of connection to anyone else it would at least be easier, but at this point I might as well be reading a story from the pov of a neet who isn’t even trying to adapt.
Hopefully that will be fixed later and if it is it would be a great story, as personalities do seem pretty interesting along with the premise, but until then I’d recommend waiting.

The premise of an isekai'd side character struggling to survive isn't novel but the introduction created an anticipation for a trope inversion that never came. From the first chapter, we know the MC is in way over his head, and in a near hopeless situation. He's relying on his knowledge of the story to cheat his way to success. Knowing this, you feel a 'race against the clock' kind of vibe; the ramping minor crescendo to the point were he sets the plot on more attainable path.
    IT NEVER COMES.
He gets a 'cheat' that is immediately overridden by an even more insurmountable obstacle. Then gets saved out of that one just to get told he should expect worse moving forward, with no safety net now.
Icing on top, the MC is irredeemable; he's bland. No hopes, no dreams, no goals. The MC only has this loosely grasped desire to survive. Unfortunately, it's a survival instinct one would attribute to an unthinking amoeba; life's most basic, primal need to continue. He has no drive, is afraid of everyone he meets, and is constantly being drug along by the weft and weave of fate. He's impulsive, airheaded, and careless. In the sense that, he knows there's a lot he doesn't but never stops to just put his foot down and demand a moment to get his bearings. He just acts without thinking or intention. He's a professional victim.
The governing laws of this world's reality are actively screwing him. He knows this and just accepts it. The help he should've received was heavily reduced because of these rules, but there is not even a hint of rage within him. Not one iota of anarchy or a need to rage against the machine. No overwhelming sense of injustice. Not even a malcontented grumble. There is nothing he wants to do beyond exist for it's own sake.
He needs a purpose, a bottom line, and a spine. He needs to stop spending multiple paragraphs rehashing how unqualified he is for the challenges he faces, while mindlessly blundering into even more of them. He needs a break, and story needs to a

There's no lead up and no background information. We are thrown into the story with nothing, not even the barest hint of exposition. We aren't given any motivations or greater narrative, just dumped into a story I have no reason to care about.
Everything that happens in the first chapter just feels random, and all of the context is off-screen. There is no set dressing or details, and I wouldn't know where the character was if he didn't monologue about where he was.
