Description

The Vex are a monstrous species. A ruthless swarm of man-eaters and a plague upon any nation unlucky enough to find a hive within their borders. The world over, the Vex are to be killed on sight, lest they grow and consume all in their wake.

Rythica is one such monster. A hive queen, no less. Through a quirk of fate, her egg was recklessly smuggled into a human city to be studied. Being raised secretly in a proper society, without ever seeing another Vex, Rythica is forced into a constant internal struggle as brutal and unfamiliar instincts war with the alien life lessons imparted by her unlikely guardians.

What is nature, and what is nurture?

As the first Vex hive queen to ever learn politics, strategy, and more, grows towards maturity, the world can only hope that mercy is something that can be taught.

Because a Vex never forgives and certainly never forgets.

I started this novel told by the other readers it was a slow start, and may I just say I genuinely disagree with the sentiment. Every portion of the story this far feels like a critical puzzle piece of a grand nobility narrative and political intrigue.
The author portrays the mind of an un-human, not inhuman, little girl and her struggles exceptionally well. Meanwhile the inclusion of important side characters throughout is a multi purpose world building, pacing and story tool.
I wish I could have rated the story higher as I genuinely am entranced watching this little girl grow from creature to a genuine Queen, and all of the struggles and self identify it may entail. The house battles, an upcoming civil war, a dangerous uptick in monsters left unchecked, unfortunately these are all loaded bullets yet to be fired, and until the gun goes off, I’m not sure how author San will handle such a high pedigree story, but I have faith by now it will be excellent.
The author has an excellent style of writing, using plenty of scene setting, and I suppose I would say ‘noble’ terminology, reeeally connecting you to the plot and the characters, if only not perfect as I feel this style is still developing its unique feel.
I will only concede this to the cool praises that many other readers seem to be giving, and it is that this novel reads closer to a larger, printed volume than an online LN- due to pacing, character development and plot set ups- and may seem closer to a slow cooker than the blast ovens you tend to see on this site. But I feel safe in saying this:
    The Author, Will, Cook
ps. also dear Mr.Dude, Your prose has become fantastic quite quickly!

The ravenous swarm is an enduring trope to give dangerous villains, but what happens when a baby queen is raised in captivity?
This story really nails the feeling of seeing the world through the eyes of a swarm queen.  All the characters feel like real people, making decisions that fit their circumstances, both good and bad.
The story is gripping even from the beginning, and is set up well enough that I am very interested to see where it goes.

It's a wish fulfillment story about raising a monster as a human/person and it's surprisingly believable and keeps you hooked!
It focuses on the POV of a few characters and each one is interesting and adds something to the story. We're still only at the beginning of the story so hard to review yet but I can't wait to see where it goes next!

This is a pretty good story so far. I'm really liking it. The grammar is excellent with few to no mistakes. Watching the hive queen grow up under the supervision of humans is both funny and begs the question as to how this will affect her, given that she's not human herself. I feel the author is doing a great job at highlighting her monstrous traits while balancing them against what it would mean to be raised in a (mostly) human society. She's clearly sapient, and thus can be educated to live in a society.
Greatly looking forward to future chapters of this story.

I rarely write story reviews, but I believe this one definitely deserves some praise.
This story is a great take on the hive queen story type. This story doesn't feature the usual isekai'd as a hive queen story, but instead, we start out with a normal hive queen called Rythica that is being raised by humans!
All the characters seem to be very fleshed out and unique. The character development in this story is something, I tell you. All the main characters are constantly learning, improving, and bonding in a very satisfying way. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone!

    Really though if you like:
An Inhuman MC that stays very much inhuman. Not super spoilery but:
By chapter 50 she has adapted somewhat to human society but it's done in such as way that it's very clear the MC is doing this to protect the people she cares about, she makes it very clear that she thinks humans are a bunch of weirdos. It's also made very clear that her different biology isn't just a massive positive over humans...in fact there are a lot of drawbacks that she needs to overcome because she simply wasn't built for living with humans. Like, most stories would just handwave away differences, but this makes them part of the story. Like, there is an early plot point about her being unable to speak properly because of her mandibles, this is pretty much the standard here. She has a lot of trouble doing things humans can do, because she's not human both physically and mentally, and each of these have to be overcome with creative solutions
A slow burn story where almost everything that is written matters..but sometimes plot threads are strung along in the background for a long time (which I enjoy)
Well written side characters who all have interesting personalities and reasons for doing what they do.
Different POVs. Most chapters are from the MCs POV, but there are a decent amount of chapters from other characters POVs which allow an expansion of the world

So this takes a bit to get going, but it is good.  I think like the prologue could be compressed to make it better because it is a bit detailed for a prologue.
However, once it does get going the author does the non-human protag right.  Our little queen doesn't act like a human with extra appendages.  She acts in a very non-human manner.  And I think that puts this fiction in the top 10% of stories with a non human protag.

An interesting new premise of following an unknowing protector and the growing of a monstrous infant. The story promises to have a great production later on! Fairly certain the power system is unique albeit being a little bit ambiguous. Definite worth a read until you get hooked.
    kudos to the author.

    Heh. Bug person
Good story, it's interesting reconciling man-eating-bug instincts with being raised by said two-legged food creatures. This story does perspective shifts but it does it well.
There's fighting in the prologue but other than that there isn't any fighting and no one's life is at risk, so far. The story very clearly isn't about fighting.
    Give it a try
