- Urban Goat HerderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a excellent example of a fantasy novel that is well written, and well developed. You can tell there is a lot of thought put into the characters and the story line, which really hooks in the reader right from the start. The tour through adventure we are given of this world is enticing and rich, nuanced and defined. I was very much reminded of the first Novel in the SpellMonger series by .
The style of tGame of Thrones, this novel has multipale right characters with storylines that intertwine, and are independently entertaining all on their own. There are obvious intrigues, and yet more always just inside the next shadow, the story always building and growing.
Grammar Score: some proof reading could polish this up, but it is still much better than most pieces I read here on RR. top .1%
The straight talk on this piece is that it is really very good. I would not have been surprised to have been told this is a know published writer with years of expirence, and I was being handed a beta read on the second go around. Its almost too good for RR. No offense to my fellow RR travelers.
I loved Mercy. Who doesn't like the rough and tumble young hunter? She is bold, bueaitufl, and with both of those we can forgive her adolsent mistakes as long as she lives through them. I love who even early Greeves attentions are divived just knowing she is around, and how even Zanzo the great, can't help bu to be charmed by her.
However, thats just touching the surface. Vindicators are on the prowl, the Princess is far from sitting in the shadows and lets face it, there is too much here to go on about in a review.
You like Fantasy? You like hard, gritty blades and spells? Here you go! - BigFrankRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really well written start to a book I'm looking forward to continue reading.
Looking forward to see how Mercys character developes over time as she constantly seeks approval from her sturn old man who doesn't seem to approve of anything.
Mercy's dad sounds like a tough character after what he said with the bear encounter, don't want to give any surprises away so make sure you read it.
Keep up the good work - Death-69Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It was fun reading this, got a few good laughs out of me I enjoyed the the pov's of the multitude of side characters.
-Style: superb 3rd person narration, it felt well done and was executed well the pov shifts won't confuse you nor break the immersion while reading. Great world-building, the world the authors have built is diverse and vibrant full. Despite being made by multiple authors this story still manages to flow rather smoothly.
-Grammer: All stories receive 5 stars for grammar as I'm not a native English speaker.
-Character: This story has a lot of characters, each having their unique personality, each their own protagonist each one feeling alive and feel like a part of the story. You probably won't remember them all but you won't just gloss over them and forget they existed which is always a plus in my book, side characters are overlooked too often.
Overall a very good read if you can handle multiple pov shifts regularly, and have a good memory to remember and keep track of all the side characters. Not many have the time and energy to do so, but those who do will enjoy this story I'm sure of it. - A V DalcourtRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is written as a group effort with a collective of writers. They write their stories from multiple POVS, and for each one, their unique writing style comes through offering a distinct voice and perspective to their respective chapters.
Story: The story centers around an upcoming royal wedding, an arranged marriage to a child bride of a neighboring tribe. Before we get to the main event, we’re engulfed in stories about the various characters who no-doubt will be deeply embroiled in a royal mishap. Each story is interesting, lively, and distinct offering readers a fully fleshed out world one chapter at a time.
Characters: There are a large number of characters, which can be a benefit if this is your sort of thing, or a disservice if you are the type of reader who finds multiple povs confusing. As for me, it’s something I deeply enjoy because I get to see more of the world these creative people have conjured. Each character is distinct with a voice of their own, goals, wants, and strong personalities.
Style: At this point, I’m risking repeating myself if I haven’t already. The stories themselves are written in a 3rd person narrative. In the first chapter (which I really appreciated the twist) was written as a close 3rd, while most chapters dance between close and distant 3rd. I mean we never get as close at that first chapter. But how often can you really expect to pull off that trick?
Very enjoyable. I have faved and will read on. - EmordnilapRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nice setup with hints of the world, culture, character & a mystery. While it's a classical setup - it is tried and tested and obviously provides a good platform for any story to evolve from.
The story had a nice flow that slowly got you interested, without spilling too many details onto the page.
Looking forward to the rest of this and hopefully it follows on the prologue! - Kaiser WastingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, Let me start with a gripe that I have, I feel as though in some aspects, The story attempts to put almost too much information about the setting, While 90% of the time it flows perfectly with the story, At certain points it feels as though it is more of an Info Dump. With this being said, All around it is Very well done.
Now to the good;
With Character Development and Pacing of the Story, I never once felt like the story was rushed in any way, Every Scene is masterfully Careographed to allow for plot growth and development, Every character feels alive and furthermore, I truly felt immersed in this world. The characters grow, have interpersonal connections, and even have strife with each other, Yet none of it feels fabricated to push the narrative. Every single time we see conflict, it is always fluid and natural. easily a 5/5.
Next for the Characters themselves, Mercy, Eryn, Ram, and Venitz Easily steals any scene They are in. Especially with Venitz! When you first meet her she is always so nervous and self conscious in even just interacting with other individuals. (I do not wish to go into Detail as not to Spoil) 5/5 on characters themselves.
Next, Grammar, To be honest, I had seen zero major flaws in the grammar of the Story! It was easily the one of the best grammatically on this site. The exellent use of the English language along with words not usually seen in order to explain the setting (Again almost to a fault) and characters feelings is a very good change of pace with this story! 5/5
Now finally the WORLD BUILDING! Dear Christ, I cannot begin to explain how excited I was when I personally messaged the author and asked for a map, and They had one! Not only could I read along, but I could understand distances, realize the situations of countries and where they all lied, what lands they sat in. From the lore, the magic, the world itself, and even monsters and legends! I loved every bit of this world. It was beyond the normal "Fantasy world" It was a living - Raphsyc0Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book was a magnificent read that made my imagination work overtime in a good way.
The character I'm looking forward to hearing more about is Ideron and his apprentice Eryn. The apprentice's views on the religious system were fascinating to read.
The map was a great addition to the story that allowed me to quickly get an idea of the places the characters spoke about and the places they operated in.
The description was immaculate, especially in the chapter where Mercy fought the Lo-bear.
Overall, it was a great story that I will come back to sometime. - DryWaterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I've always been a sucker for non-human MCs and this story piqued my interest. The start of the story was quite different compared to most stories of this type since the MC doesn't completely dominate everything from the beginning(I'm looking at you Overlord). In fact, he's only a little stronger than his boney brothers at this point(Chapter 8). Right now you have a good setup where the MC has only just started to realize his potential and looks to have a good foundation for his rise to power. The MC has a clear set of goals as of now and is working towards that direction.
So far the story feels very cryptic as the MC is placed in an unknown situation with an unknown enemy after him, with virtually no help whatsoever and has to make due with what he's got. He has to unravel the mysteries of his past life and a kingdom long-gone all the while trying to survive. As of right now not much is revealed so there could be changes to this review as time goes on, but the overall feel of this setting is very refreshing compared to the usual template reincarnations since this feels more like a story of self-discovery along with his rise to power. It isn't the usual OP-MC-defeats-evil-with-his-harem plot, at least for now it isn't and I like that.
I'd like to think of myself as a grammar Nazi, but I know with the length of the chapters there will bound to be mistakes so I'm not too bothered. In fact, the grammar is quite good despite the occasional missing words, awkward sentences, and spelling mistakes.
As far as the main character himself goes, he appears level-headed and acts according to the situation. He's doing pretty well for the fact that he literally has no clue about anything that's happening. Though something that a lot of authors do that I find a bit annoying is how the MC can be extremely lucky for no apparent reason. From what I got, he randomly comes across really good sword that looks to be something that is very effective against undead, in the middle of a horde
